How to Turn Off Back-Up Alarm of Curt C57100 When Not Towing
Question:
Hi, I would like to put the C57100 on my 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited. Is the back-up alarm going to beep everytime I put my Jeep into reverse when Im not towing? If so is there a way to turn it off when Im not towing anything? If not is there another set-up that would work like what I am talking about? Thanks for your help.

Once the Curt # C57100 is installed, the alarm will sound every time you put the transmission in reverse, regardless of whether or not you're towing at the time.
The only way I can think of to defeat the alarm for when you're not towing would be to install a switch like # PK34308 inline on the wire feeding the reverse lamp circuit to the # C57100.
You'd need to peel back the tape or wire loom that covers the factory wiring harness the C57100 plugs into. Use a circuit tester like # PTW2993 to locate the wire in the harness that goes hot with the transmission in reverse. When found, cut the wire and install the switch inline. You'll want to install the switch in the interior of the vehicle, so it's protected from the weather. You can use 16-gauge wire, which is sold by the foot as part # 16-1-1 to make the wire runs. You'd also need butt connectors like # DW05744-5 and 2 female spade terminals, part # DW01899-1 to make the connection at the switch.
When the switch is on, the signal will reach the alarm when the vehicle transmission is shifted into reverse, activating the alarm. With the switch off, power won't reach the alarm preventing it from sounding.
I've provided you with a diagram showing how all that would be laid out.
