Video Transcript for Redline Trailer Suspension 1753223 Review

Today, we're going to be taking a look at a replacement U-bolt with nuts for 1 1/2" wide square trailer axles. You would use the U-bolt with a U-bolt plate and an additional U-bolt with the same dimensions to secure an axle to the leaf springs, which are mounted to the trailer frame. This is going to feature a threaded portion on each end. That threaded portion measures about 2" on each side. If we put a ruler on that, you can see that the threaded portion, from the bottom of the post to the top of the thread, measures 2" long. This is designed to fit a square 1 1/2" wide trailer axle. It is for 3500 pound axles only.

It's going to come with the included nuts. The opening is going to measure about 1 1/2", so that's how we can tell it's for 1 1/2" wide trailer axles. The bolt diameter is 1/2". The length from the bottom of that portion, there, to the end of the threaded area is going to measure 5" long. Then, again, that opening is going to give us an inside width measurement of 1 1/2". That's going to do it for today's look at the replacement U-bolt..

Working great ,,no complaints. ....

by:

I ordered 4 square u-bolts and 2 plates as part of replacing the axel on a 1977 small boat trailer. Needed longer u-bolts than I fond any place else, but trailer had ones that could work. Ideally would have preferred stainless or at least galvanized for use in salt water, but at least could get trailer back on the road. 1 of the 4 u-bolts I ordered was narrower than the rest, had to be forced on at risk of damaging the threads. The center hole in the plate was too small to fit over the top bolt head on the leaf spring; so had to resort to under slung install - which was not the original trailer setup.

I will have our customer service team reach out to you. I would recommend using a corrosion resistant spray with the u bolts and plate. When using in salt water then rinsing off the u bolts and plates with freshwater will help to length the life of the parts.

by:

Excellent product and hard to find. The shipping was super fast which allowed me to finish my project fast!

by:

Very happy with the great product, great price, as well as fast, fair-priced shipping. Will definitely use etrailer again when the need arises.

I sold the trailer that this part was installed, but the installation went smoothly, and I was happy with my purchase.

by:

My etrailer.com parts fit exactly to the specifications needed for the little green trailer I was restoring. Thanks etrailer.com for having some difficult to find parts available for my project. Shipping and communication was excellent as well.

I have a1962 camp trailer that I wanted to reverse the axle
I searched through my city, and was not able to find square U bolts
I went to our”Trailer” expert business and was told they not linger carried 1 1/2 bolts, they referred me to a speciality spring shop only to find he did not have the capability
I finally look online and found that Etrailer had in stock
I will now go to Lori at Etrailer 1st

by:

Haven't installed them yet but they look perfect—the videos on you site are extremely helpful, but it would be even better if you suggested this product any time someone browses or buys a set of 1.5" wide leaf springs (ideally you'd suggest both this product and the U-bolt equivalent to cover both folks with square and cylindrical axles).

Thanks again for your excellent service!

by:

Used this to mount tail light brackets on my old M101-A2 trailer. Fit like a glove around the framework.

by:

We are working on a vintage Shasta travel trailer. We were thrilled to find a very necessary part . 2 U-bolts ..the RIGHT size. E-Trailer were very helpful in filling our order. Clear, concise and prompt delivery. We will use them again.

by:

My experiance in dealing with etrailer could not have been beter. they were frendly, new there products and got me the right kit for the trailer I was working on. The quality is very good.

by:

Quality Bolt. I will use Etrailer again. I could not find these bolts locally mainly because I work six days a week and the parts suppliers in the area only work five.
This made Etrailer a awesome option. Price was the same as the local suppliers and I had the parts in four days allowing me to finish my trailer without having to take time off from work to chase parts, another added savings. Thank you Etrailer.

by:

Exactly what I needed to fabricate two mounting brackets to attach the canopy I built for my Kubota.
Thanks!

by:

Fit perfect for an older trailer with 1.5 in axle and 1.75 leaf springs. Exactly what I was looking for. Thank you etrailer!

by:

I sent for 4 ubolts for my horse trailer because etrailer was the only one who had the right size . I ordered them overnight and they came at 12 so o had time to put them on the next day .
I put them on they fit they were the ones I ordered so o saved $680 by using my own trailer and not needing to hire a hauler .
I’m extremely happy with my purchase and the speed it got here so I give 5 stars because you guys earned them .
Thank you
I’d do business with you again in a New York City second !

by:

Exactly what I needed.
Arrived quickly.
Trailer
still in use.
Should outlast the old trailer I put them on.

by:

I couldn't find the proper size at any stores near me, found them at "etrailer" at a great price with reasonable shipping and received them a day earlier than expected, they fit perfectly, definitely will keep "etrailer" in mind for future projects

by:

product is very high quality and will more than likely last the life of my boat trailer. i'm very pleased with product, thank you.

by:

It is hard to find U-bolts to fit older camp trailers (1969) But these U-bolts from etrailer were well made and fit perfectly-thanks.

by:

Product is high quality and as described on etrailer.com. Extremely happy with purchase. Will definitely visit site again.

by:

U-bolts and plates will be used to fabricate guide posts for my boat trailer. Great product !

by:

This went very well. The parts were exactly what I needed and I received them when promised. In addition, the web site detail for the parts was great as I was able to order the parts to 3 critical dimensions as clearly displayed on the web site. Thank you so much.

by:

First off, the bolts fit a 1/12 axle with the kind of snugness that promotes confidence..
They are accurately made, and fit my suspension well.

  • How to Determine Axle Weight Capacities on a Trailer
The axle capacity should be stamped on the frame of the trailer near the coupler of the trailer. It also could be listed somewhere on the axle. I wish there was an industry standard weight capacity for the 1.5 inch by 1.5 inch square solid steel axles but there is not. If you do not see a weight capacity listed in either of those places you can remove the hubs on your trailer and give me the bearing numbers that are listed on the spindles. I will be able to tell which hubs and spindles...

  • What is the Torque Requirement for 1/2 Inch U-Bolts for Trailer Suspension
According to our FAQ on slipper springs, linked for referenced, the torque specs are as follows: Torque Ratings 1/2 inch Bolts: 45 ft/lbs - 70 ft/lbs 9/16 inch Bolts: 65 ft/lbs - 95 ft/lbs 5/8 inch Bolts: 100 ft/lbs - 120 ft/lbs The Replacement U-Bolt, # 1753223, uses a 1/2 inch nut so it would fall into the 45 to 70 foot pound category.

  • Should Trailer Leaf Springs Be Easy to Move Up and Down
If the slipper springs on your trailer have a lower capacity like # WIC2 at 500 pounds apiece, then it would be possible to physically compress them with the trailer empty but it should not be all that easy. With a load on the trailer it will be easier. If you find that you can move the springs then it is probably time for some new ones. On higher capacity springs you probably would not be able to move them at all without a load on the trailer. I have included a link to our slipper spring...

  • Replacing Grease National 6362 Seals On A 1962 Circle J Horse Trailer
Finding parts for a trailer that old can certainly be tricky. According to what I can find online, the national 6362 seal has an ID of 1.687" and an OD of 2.627". It looks like they are still out there in circulation, but unfortunately we do not carry an equivalent of the national 6362 seal. Since the trailer is over 60 years old, it may prove very difficult to find replacement parts. In this case we recommend replacing the entire axle with something more standard. If you want to go that...

  • Recommended U-Bolts And Plate For A 1-1/2" Wide Square Axle
Hey Roy, The only U-bolt kit we currently only offer for 1-1/2" square axles is part # CE23102, which only has a 3-3/8" length so it likely wouldn't be the best option for you. Instead you'll want to order the 1-1/2" Square Trailer U-Bolts # SP01-120 and two of the U-Bolt Plate # 115983 to mount your axle to the leaf springs # SP-210275.

  • What is the Weight Capacity of a Trailer Axle with # L44643 Inner and Outer Trailer Bearings
If both the inner and outer bearing are # L44643 bearings, that means it can fit on a BT8 spindle. One BT8 spindle, like # TRU94FR, has a capacity of 1,000 pounds. So on a single axle with 2 spindles, it would have a 2,000 pound capacity. The axle and/or trailer capacity should be on a sticker or plate on the trailer tongue.

  • Does the Replacement U-Bolt for 1-1/2 Wide Square Trailer Axles Come with the Nuts
Yes. The Replacement U-Bolt for 1-1/2" Wide, Square Trailer Axles - 1/2" Diameter # 1753223 does come with the matching nuts to secure these U-bolts to your axle to the leaf spring with a U-bolt plate. I've linked the review video of these U-bolts that shows the nuts that are included with these, they're just not included in the product photos currently, so I can see why this might be confusing.

  • What is the Axle Capacity for an Old Trailer with Hub # 22834
The bearing numbers you have provided indicate that you have hub 22834. This hub is no longer made but there are parts for it such as the bearings # 2788 and # 1779 an the races # 2729 and # 1729. The hub is rated for 2,600 pounds which means it fits a 5,200 pound axle.

  • Replacement U-Bolts Compatible with CE Smith U-Bolt Kit for 1-1/2 Inch Square Axle
The CE Smith U-Bolt Kit for Mounting 1-1/2" Square Trailer Axles - 3-3/8" Long U-Bolts - Zinc # CE23102 unfortunately doesn't have direct replacement parts outside of the kit. The Replacement U-Bolt with Nuts for 1-1/2" Wide, Square Trailer Axles - 1/2" Diameter # 1753223 is the closest we have to what you are seeking but it is not zinc plated and is 5 inches long.

  • Securing Axle U-Bolts With Loctite
Though it is not completely necessary to use something like Loctite's Threadlocker # LT37420, there wouldn't be any adverse affects either. Most U-Bolt kits do come with lock nuts making them more secure than standard nuts, but you can definitely apply # LT37420 to completely secure their purchase on the U-Bolts.

  • Need Replacement Square U-Bolt for 1-1/2 Inch Axle
For a replacement U-Bolt closest to your measurements, I have the Replacement U-Bolt with Nuts, part # 1753223, which is for 1-1/2 inch wide, square axles. We also sell these U-Bolts in a pair, part # SP01-120. The Replacement U-Bolt, part # 1753223, will work great with your 1-1/2 Inch, 1800 pound capacity axle. U-Bolts do not typically carry a weight rating.

  • Replacement For Square U-Bolt 1-5/8" x 3/8" x 4" Long
The closest U-Bolts we have are the following. 1-1/2" x 1/2" x 5" # 1753223 1-3/4" x 9/16" x 5" # 175130 If neither of these will work for your application you can check your local hardware store.

  • Determine Square Axle Capacity
Square axle capacities are pretty hard to determine. Unlike round axles, they do not have set capacities based on their dimensions. We have no information for the bearing numbers you listed. But what you can do is give me some exact measurements of your spindle and we should be able to see if there is a hub we carry that would fit so that you could at least get a ballpark on your capacity. I need the dimensions of where the bearings and seal ride. You might be able to contact the original...
