E-Z Lube-Compatible Hub for Simple Lubrication

The grease cap on this hub-and-drum assembly is specially designed to work with your Dexter E-Z Lube axle to make lubricating bearings quick and easy. Just remove the plug on the grease cap, attach a grease gun to the zerk fitting on the end of the spindle, and inject the grease. It will flow easily to both inner and outer bearings. Not only does this make lubricating the bearings easy, but it also helps to prevent corrosion of the hub. This is because you can lubricate the bearings without the mess of taking apart the entire assembly.

Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern Side

Measuring the distance (D) from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

I found all the parts I needed at etrailer.com to restore the hydraulic brake system on an old snow mobile trailer. I received great phone help and the pricing was good. Free shipping and I had the parts within a few days. I would order here again!

by:

Hubs and drum fit perfectly was upgrading from 4 lug to 5 lug so I could run bigger tires. Eveb came with the correct grease seals which other kits dont.

by:

Overall good experience. They say anyone can do a good job when everything goes well but not so much when things don't. There was a damaged part and an incorrect part in the shipment. Greg and Nicole got the replacements right out so I was able to get my trailer ready to roll. I am ready for the summer, thanks!

by:

I have to say that I have not used the pieces yet. However !! This started with a phone call that I made to Etrailer and spoke with James. He was extremely pleasant, helpful, and got me what I needed. And. He convinced me to buy a couple of tires.. Which I needed. Great place to work with. On the Web, or on the phone.

by:

Consistently excellent service! Helpful service folk! Great follow-up! What more can be said? Will definitely be back for all my trailer needs! :)

by:

I recieved exactly what I ordered in a timely manner and was communicated with all the way through from order confirmation to letting me know my parts were sitting at my front door before I even got home that day. Good job.

See what our Experts say about this Dexter Trailer Hubs and Drums

  • Will an 8 Inch Trailer Wheel Fit on Hubs for a 3,500 Pound Axle
Are you using hub and drum assemblies or just regular hubs? If you are using hub and drum assemblies then to fit an 8 inch wheel they would have to be very small. We have just one hub and drum assembly that fits 8 inch wheels, # 8-271-7UC3-EZ, and it is for 2,000 pound EZ lube axles. Hub and drum assemblies for 3,500 pound axles are going to require 13 inch or larger wheels. It sounds like you are wanted to use an alternate tire size which requires a smaller wheel than what the hubs are...

  • Adding Brakes to Acme Car Dolly
We don't offer parts specific for the Acme tow dolly, but we have the parts you'd need to add either electric or hydraulic drum brakes. I'm assuming your tow dolly doesn't currently have brakes, and that your current hubs use the # L44649 as the inner and outer wheel bearing. If that's the case, to add electric brakes, you'd need the following parts: # 8-257-5UC3-EZ hub drum for EZ lube spindle or # 8-257-5UC3 for standard spindles # 23-47 and # 23-48 electric brake assemblies # H20044...

  • Why Are Dexter Drums 8-271-7UC3-EZ and 8-257-5UC3 So Different In Price?
The reason for the price difference is the Dexter Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly # 8-271-7UC3-EZ are only compatible with hydraulic brakes, where the # 8-257-5UC3 are compatible with electric and hydraulic brakes. Since most people use electric trailer brakes on this size axle the # 8-257-5UC3 is the more popular choice. For compatible braking assemblies we have the Dexter Hydraulic Trailer Brake Kit # 23-398-399 if you are wanting hydraulic brakes, or Electric Trailer Brake Kit # AKEBRK-2...

  • Hub and Drum and Bearing Kit to go with 7 x 1-3/4 Inch Hydraulic Brake Assembly 23-399
I believe that in the question you are referring to the 1.64 measurement is on the brake mounting flange, # 4-34. The center hole of the brake assembly, # 23-399, is larger than this and that is normal so it doesn't sound like you have anything to worry about for that. The matching left hand brake assembly is # 23-398. For a hub and drum assembly you can use # 8-276-5 which has a 4 on 4 bolt pattern and you would use bearing kit # BK1-150. For a 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern you can use hub...

  • EZ-Lube Spindle for L44649 Bearing and 10-60 Grease Seal
On the spindle # TRU44FR, the 1.25 inch refers to the diameter of the stub, not to any of the bearing surfaces, which might be what is confusing you. If you currently have the # 8-271-7UC3-EZ hubs that use the L44649 inner and outer bearing, the # TRU44FR would be the compatible EZ Lube spindle. Part # BK1-150 would be the correct bearing/ seal kit that uses the double-lip seal which we recommend for the EZ-Lube spindles. For your hub bore, you would use the grease cap # DC200L-DCRP. Instead...

  • Brake Drum Recommendation for InTech Flyer Chase Trailer
Since you have 2,200 Dexter axles and the Dexter brake assemblies # K23-103-104-00 and I can tell you have a 5 on 4-1/2 inch bolt pattern the hub drums you'd need are the part # 8-271-7UC3-EZ. The last thing you'll need is 10 gauge wire that you'd run from the brake assemblies to the trailer connector with part # 10-1-1 which we offer by the foot.

  • Upgrading to a 5 on 4-1/2" Bolt Pattern On Dexter #9 2,200 Lb Axle
It sounds like you may have a 4 on 4" bolt pattern and want to switch to a 5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern to use larger wheels. If that is the case then the Dexter Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly part # 8-271-7UC3-EZ has the bolt pattern you're after and will work on a 2,200 lb axle. That said, it will limit the wheel size to 12" due to the hub surface. I recommend the Kenda Karrier S-Trail ST145/R12 Radial Tire w/ 12" White Spoke Wheel part # AM31199DX. Unfortunately, you won't be able to install...

  • Replacement Hub/Drum For Dexter 8-271 With 5 Bolt Mounting Pattern
We do have the Dexter Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly for Standard # 8-271-7UC3 or EZ Lube # 8-271-7UC3-EZ axles. These are the 8-271 hubs you have with the 5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern. These fit on a 1-1/16" diameter BTR spindle. They include all the bearings, races, seal, lug nuts and grease cap. If you only have a 1" BT8 spindle you will need the Easy Grease Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly # AKHD-545-2-EZ-1K. The easiest way to verify is by removing the hub castle nut and checking the part...

  • Replacement Race to Go with a L44649 Bearing
Sounds like you are talking about the races of your hub, the reason your local store doesn't want to sell you them is because they are pretty difficult to install without damaging the hub. You would want to have them professionally installed. The correct race for the L44649 bearing is the part # L44610. This has an outer diameter of 1.980.
