I'm distinctly a DIYer, 74, and arthritic. Except for one minor issue, it only took me 50 minutes to install. That issue was that the spare MUST be lowered if you have a full-sized spare on a step-bumper vehicle.

The product is VERY nicely made and fit perfectly. I'd recommend it to anyone.

Its a fine hitch, and has served me well in the first year its been on the truck.

by:

Great product Took me about 20 minutes to put it on out the door !! And it does not protrude past the bumber so it is not a shin buster when not in use !!

Well the person that I installed this hitch for has not complained so perfect I guess.

Easy to install. I removed the rear bolts, bolted the hitch in place, drilled the front holes and bolted them. One tip. Install the wiring harness first. The receiver is 15 inches to the top of the square. The whole job took an hour. Great product!

by:

Great hitch, great price and easy to install. The hitch went on a 2003 Ford Ranger XLT extended cab. It did not interfere with the factory spare at all. "It's like it was designed to fit my vehicle!"

by:
FordRanger

This Hitch Reciever fit my '89 Ford Ranger perfectly. Had it installed in less than 30 minutes. Heavy duty design. I've had it over a year now and it has held up great. A huge improvement from the original ball in bumper design.

by:
1999 FordRanger

Once I got bumper bolts removed, took about 30 minutes, with a help of friend holding one side, to mount and secure. Lowering spare really facilitates mounting. No drilling required, excellent fit with easy to follow instructions. Will use to pull my ski boat and pop up camper. Looks extremely sturdy. Like distance from ground to receiver. Highly recommend product, ordering easy and delivery and packing was excellent.

Great, still living up to my initial review.

by:
2002 FordRanger

First off, the install took just 15-20 minutes. The product fitment for bolt up was flawless and it has a good powder coated finish. Your install videos were great as they prepared me as to what I needed before the hitch arrived (like an 18mm deep wall impact socket). Thanks for posting those!

Biggest drawback is that it makes it pretty much impossible to lower the spare tire without having to remove the receiver. Not something that I will be looking forward to when and if I get a flat. I'm going to chock that up to me running the next size up from stock tires? They aren't much bigger but maybe that's how close the fitment is to the stock size?

James, thank you for your review. Since you mention that your spare tire is not stock size, I recommend that you relocate your spare tire before use to prevent any damage.

by:
2001 FordRanger

The hitch was very easy to install, took about 30 min. It fits perfectly to my 2001 Ford Ranger. The tow bar is very sturdy and is very well made! The delivery was fast, I ordered it on a Monday, and it arrived on Friday.
I would most DEFINETLY recommend this to anyone who is considering this for a tow bar.

Everything has been working great! They have been holding up very well to the tests of winter and summer. Thanks for asking.

by:
1998 FordRanger

Easy install, other than having to drill two 1/2" holes in the truck frame. Nice quality hitch. I have a 1998 Ranger 4X4 so the tires are at the larger end of the OEM tire range (P235/75R15). My spare tire did fit in the well once the hitch was in place, however the tire is shifted a little bit forward due to interference with the hitch's square receiver tube. My spare is suspended on a crank-up cable mechanism, so placement is not critical. It's fine though, very secure.

I like the way this hitch is mostly hidden from view once installed. Very clean look.

by:
1998 FordRanger

The real deal that is mostly hidden. Glad I did round tubes vs square

by:

The Curt 13138 fits my '97 Ranger perfectly. The 3 toughest parts with the install were 1. Loosening the bumper bracket bolts, 23 years of rust will make that tough 2. Cordless batteries were dead and the wife had knocked a hatchet onto the extension cords. So I soaked the bumper bolts with PB _and rust penetrant and fixed the extension cord in the half hour while the batteries charged. 3. I was working solo, so trying to balance, align and hold up the hitch while trying to get the first hitch bolt installed was not possible until I supported the hitch with a bucket. It really was a simple install and if I went out prepared would have taken 30 minutes. Even with drilling the 2 holes.
It looks good, tows my trailer, works with my bicycle and canoe carriers.

Perfect fit, easy to order, arrived quickly, great price.

2 photos- bucket supporting hitch for solo install and nice new clean hitch on my filthy truck.

This Curt Hitch receiver is absolutely amazing!! Nothing beats the quality of USA made hitch receivers!! I’d recommend this to anyone, it fit my 2005 ford ranger like a charm! We installed it in less than 20 minutes, just needed a helping hand to hold it while I got the bolts seated. 10/10 very happy with my purchase. Thanks etrailer!!!

by:

I've had this hitch for a year now, and it's still as great as it was on day one. It tucks up behind the bumper nicely to keep a nice clean appearance, and the powder coating has help up nicely. No complaints from me. Installation was easy, removing the hitch the previous owner put on was the hardest part.

by:
1997 FordRanger

Fit perfectly. Got the curt for my 97 ford ranger to pull my 5×12 trailer. Its always great to have a good quality hitch. No more using my bumper to pull, always made me nervous using the bumper. Very happy. Thanks etrailer.

by:

It's a robust product with a good finish.
My
only problem (hitch) was my vehicle (2001 Ford Ranger, Edge 6'bed) frame/bumper attachment had clips that couldn't be removed until the other bolts were backed out to provide clearance to slide the retainer out.

I am happy with etrailer.com and the many purchases I have made over the years.

Solid piece of hardware
Well thought
out
Am not exactly a pin ball wizard but got er done in OK time
Ford ranger 1997 bolts came out easily....remove & discard bolt clips
Only remove two bolts...but loosen all 4 so clips can be popped out
Buy a good 1/2 " drill bit ahead of time
Wear real eye protection...do u want hot metal filings in your eye?
Forgot to order the pin
Excellent customer service and follow through
Wish I had done this 10 yrs ago

2003 FordRanger

I received my hitch in 2 days and found it was just as described.... very heavy duty, manufactured at a high level and high quality paint. I installed the hitch on my 2003 Ford Ranger in much less time than anticipated. The hitch was as specified and fit perfectly .. no need to drill holes either. Very pleased with the product and ease of installation.

by:

Shopping on etrailer.com is the best. Easy to find what you need with all the information needed to make the right choice. The installation videos are very helpful along with the instructions.

by:

This is my second hitch I’ve bought from etrailer. Both times the hitch showed up on time or sooner, and installation was easy due in large part to the excellent videos on the site. This is always going to be my “go to” site for any trailer needs.

by:

Me gusto como quedó, de show.

[I
liked how it turned out, on show.]

by:
1995 FordRanger

My hitch arrived several days ahead of the estimated time. It came securely packaged with all the hardware I needed. Most other places I looked to purchase from couldn't ship for at least 45 days, these guys shipped it right out. I removed my spare tire, although I wouldn't have to and got to work. Took about a half hour to install. Great experience, I will continue to use etrailer for my trailer and hauling needs.

by:
2015 FordRanger

I have a 2000 Ford Ranger XLT, and the instillation was fairly simple. No drilling addition holes for my model, and the only problem I really had was loosening the existing bolts on the truck. Had to use liquid wrench, but they were loose within 15 minutes. The videos on this site and the Curt site are a great help for visualizing what you need to do. I would definitely buy from ETrailer again.

by:

Excellent product and a very easy installation. It took about 20 minutes to install. No drilling and a perfect fit! Great video tutorial on youtube!

by:

We have had a CURT for many years and purchased this one for a new truck. They look good, are easy to install, work very well and have maintained their quality over the years. Highly recommended.
