Helpful Expert Reply:
Hitch fits for the 1996 and 1998 Ford Ranger are the same as long as the 1996 Ranger is NOT the GT version. For the GT version of the 1996 Ranger we have no hitch fits.
I have linked two pages for you that show all available Class II and Class III hitches for both model years.
Please note that you cannot re-use the hitch installation hardware when you re-install the hitch. The hardware for hitches is intended for a single use only and it must be replaced with a new hardware kit in order for the re-installed hitch to meet its original specifications.
We do offer replacement hardware kits for all hitches we sell. All you need to do to order a new kit is enter part # RHK into our search box and then indicate the hitch item and select the manufacturer.
To help you with your hitch installation I have linked a video for Curt hitch # 13138 as well as a helpful article with installation tips.
