Hidden Cross Tube for a Clean, Factory Look

The EcoHitch Hidden trailer hitch is designed to be as inconspicuous as possible. The hitch's cross tube bolts onto your vehicle's frame, behind your rear bumper. No drilling or welding is required. Once the hitch is installed, only the receiver will be visible beneath your bumper. This means that your vehicle can maintain its stylish, from-the-factory look, and you won't have to do any major modifications to its body or frame.

Eco-Friendly Material

With a combination of aerospace-grade aluminum, steel, and stainless steel, each EcoHitch is made of a strong metal alloy that will withstand the test of time. The lightweight alloy is composed of recycled materials. Traditional steel hitch manufacturing can use coal or oil, which can contribute to harmful gas emissions. The EcoHitch's recycled materials limit the carbon footprint during manufacturing, so you get a sturdy trailer hitch while also helping the environment.

Rigorous Strength Testing Ensures Durability

This EcoHitch trailer hitch is tested for durability and sturdiness. Using Finite Elemental Analysis (FEA), individual points of stress on the hitch can be detected and remedied. Designers can accurately test the hitch to ensure that it will meet or exceed SAE J684 standards. The EcoHitch Hidden trailer hitch is carefully researched and strength tested for a durable, high-quality hitch that can resist damage while on the road.

Excellent hitch. And fairly easy to install all things considered. Glad my neighbor had a torque wrench though. I wouldn’t have had it nearly as tight as it needed to be. I used my jack stand to lift the hitch up another 1/4” to give me as much clearance as I could get as I have really steep driveway. Bumper fit on perfectly even with the lifted hitch. So now even with the 1up bike rack I have plenty of room to get up and in my driveway. IndFor reference I have a 2019 3.6 limited Outback. No lift. Stock tires and rims. I’m pretty happy with the purchase. Only downside was that e-trailer wouldn’t take the full amount of a gift credit card I had. But oh well.

Great product. looks awesome and installation went without hitch (pun intended); saving me hundreds of dollars. Would highly recommend!!

This hitch has been flawless & has allowed me to expand my adventures with the Family. I have it mounted to a Subaru Outback & I primarily use it to hold my 1UP USA bike rack. I routinely have 4 bikes on the back & never have any issues on or off road.

Just completed a 2200 mile move with my Outback towing a 6X12 (not the size I reserved, but I digress) UHaul. Hitch and wiring performed flawlessly. I have full confidence the hitch will outlast the car. Great products, great service.

by:

I really like this hitch. I only use it to haul bikes with a receiver bike rack. When bike rack it not on the car, I barely notice the car even has a hitch.

Instructional video was of great help in taking the required sections of the car
apart. The hitch fit perfectly. The welds and material are top notch. The powder
coat was excellent. It did only take a couple hours to do. This hidden hitch is worth
the extra cost over the one which hangs down below the bottom of the rear facia.
The only thing I did different was on the cut of the bumper facia where the hitch
pokes through. Theirs was larger than it needed to be. I cut a rectangle just a little
larger than the hitch itself and slid the bumper in upon assembly. It took a bit of
measuring, and re-measuring to make sure the cut was going to be in the right
place because you only have one shot. Also, I reused the foam which goes
between the actual bumper and the plastic rear facia. There was space for it so
I put it back in.

After a year of usage I found this hitch to be very rigid. No flex at all. Also, no surface rust at all on the receiver. Very happy.

2019 Subaru Outback Wagon

This 2" hitch bolted onto my 2019 Outback exactly like what was shown in the installation video. I'll be using it for a bike rack and maybe pulling a trailer in the future. I like how it tucks under the bumper and doesn't stick out. Looks factory. My only (tiny) issue is that in the video it shows cutting the notch out of the underside of the bumper with tin snips. That worked great until it didn't. Along one side of the cut-out the plastic was much thicker and tin snips couldn't cut it. I broke out my Dremel and cut off the excess plastic, which was quick and easy. Overall, superb product.

This thing is sturdy and clean. A must have for anyone hauling a bike rack, camping gear, or anything that requires a Class III hitch. I love it.

2017 Subaru Outback Wagon

Super easy install. Only issue was a bolt was missing, I only received 7. I probably could have contacted them for a replacement, but I wasn't going to leave me vehicle disassembled for the time it was going to take to contact and have them ship me one :-/

by:

This hitch was easy to install. The video directions for my specific vehicle were good and easy to follow. It didn't require any drilling or alterations to the vehicle. I like that the hitch is out of sight when it is not in use. I put the etrailer rubber hitch cover on it when not in use, and you have to look really hard to tell that there is even a hitch back there.

2019 Subaru Outback Wagon

This went on a 2019 Outback. The directions were for earlier models, but everything was identical. The video for 2016-2018 Outbacks was the same process for the 2019. My guess is that the bolt/ hole pattern is slightly different on the 2019. It took longer than I expected, because the little plastic retainers and guides below the taillights were very tight and difficult to disengage without breaking them. Also, I was able to keep the foam piece on the bumper and still install the fascia. Installed, it looks identical to the pics for 2016-2018 models.

by:
2019 Subaru Outback Wagon

I have a 2019 Outback. I consider myself a slightly above average gear-head with (mostly) proper tools. My observations:
1) I referenced the video for the 2017 Outback, and found it very accurate for the 2019. I got my hitch installed, along with an electrical harness, in a couple of hours in my garage.
2) My Subie has optional mud guards in the wheel wells. You need to take these off before trying to remove the rear bumper fascia! Three Philips head screws along the edge of the wheel well. One push-pin inside the wheel well. One push-pin along the bottom of the fender. Removing the mud guard reveals a push-pin in the bumper fascia that you need to remove in order to get the fascia off.
3) A deep socket really helps when you are trying to unbolt the bumper beam. A 9/16" socket works just as well as a 14 mm when removing/installing the bolts.
4) I used a Dremel tool with a cutting wheel to cut out space under the bumper fascia to accommodate the new receiver. Used pliers with flat jaws to crimp the trim material provided onto the rough edge.
I'm really liking the minimalist appearance of the finished receiver installation!

by:

The items ordered took a little bit to arrive but never the less everything went great. The installation was simple and the type of hitch i purchased flows with my rear Bumper Cover and is basically UN-noticeable. I couldn't be more pleased.

Thank you

by:

It finally stopped raining in Seattle and got to use the hitch for my boat. It worked perfectly. The included mounting nut held everything tight. I will buy another one for the next car when needed.

by:

Solid and well-built. Installation using etrailer videos was very straightforward. Took about 2 1/2 hours being careful to check each step. I did break a few of the retaining pins (which I expected) and fortunately have some extras from prior projects.

by:

I picked this hitch for my 2019 Subaru Outback and am super pleased with it. The install was easy for me to do alone in less than 2 hours. It also works great with my 1up rack

by:
2019 Subaru Outback Wagon

Great product, fit and finish are perfect. Installed in under 2 hrs by myself taking my time. eTrailer is a fantastic company, their product selection, descriptions and install videos are top notch.

Straight forward, relatively easy install. Great stealthy fit. Slight corrosion after one year but still in good shape. Solid mount has held up well. No issues.

This is a very well built product. Arrived well packaged. Installation was super easy. This will primarily be used for bike transport but may also see a trailer. I'm pleased and would definitely purchase it again

  • Trailer Hitch Fit Recommendation For 2018 Subaru Outback
The EcoHitch # 306-X7601 and # 306-X7315 hitches might look fairly similar, but the # 306-X7266 is a fit for your 2018 Subaru Outback. The hitch installs to the bumper/crash beam mounting bolts and will be sandwiched between the vehicle and the crash beam as shown in the install video I've linked for you. The # 306-X7315 is a fit for a different vehicle, the 2017 - 2019 Volkswagen Golf Alltrack and the 2017 - 2019 Volkswagen Golf SportWagen, so it wouldn't fit your Outback. All this being...

  • Recommended 2 Inch Ball Mount with 0 Rise and Drop
For the EcoHitch Hidden Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 306-X7601 you will be installing on your 2015 Subaru Outback Wagon, I recommend using a ball mount with a 1" rise as the tongue weight of your trailer when loaded will lower the rear of your vehicle about a 1/2" or so depending on the weight of your trailer. For a ball mount, I recommend taking a look at the Curt Towing Starter Kit part # C45534 which comes with a 3/4" rise ball mount, locking hitch pin, and receiver tube cover. You...

  • Does the Whole Back of a 2015 Subaru Outback Wagon Need to be Taken of to Install EcoHitch
To help narrow down the trailer hitch options I do recommend going with a 2" trailer hitch receiver as opposed to a 1-1/4" receiver. The 1-1/4" options tend to have more restrictions when it comes to accessories that can be used. Since the installations for the various hitch sizes will be the same from the manufacturers I would definitely go with a 2" receiver. Great questions! To upgrade the current OEM trailer hitch an aftermarket Class III trailer hitch with a 2" receiver you'll first need to remove the OEM hitch from your 2018 Subaru Outback Wagon. • Ground Clearance of EcoHitch Trailer Hitch on Subaru Outback Wagon
The EcoHitch trailer hitch, part # 306-X7601, does sit underneath the rear bumper so it reduces the ground clearance at the bumper for sure. It installs right up to the fascia on a Subaru Outback Wagon so if you measure from the underside on one down 2-1/2 inches you can see how much you'll lose. When we installed the EcoHitch on a 2018 Outback it was about 13-1/2 inches from the ground. This could be a little different if you have a different model year. According to EcoHitch it doesn't...

We don't have a list of installers recommended by EcoHitch. What we normally do is recommend people to find someone in their area local to them with a good reputation and let them do the install as hitch installs are pretty basic for mechanics. • Best Frame Mounted Hitch Platform Bike Rack for 2016 Outback Wagon and Hitch Assembly
For a hitch for your 2016 Subaru Outback Wagon the EcoHitch part # 306-X7601 is the best option. It's well hidden, 2 inch in size, and will do a great job carrying a bike rack. Best option that covers all your criteria for a bike rack is the Thule EasyFold part # TH903202.
