Hitch, Wiring and Brake Controller Recommendations for 2015 Subaru Outback Wagon
Question:
Hello. I have a 2015 Subaru Outback and I am planning to purchase the EcoHitch Hidden Trailer Hitch Reciever Item # 306-X7601. On your website I read that from the ground to the inside top edge of the receiver is about 16inch for my make and model car. I am trying to figure out which ball mount to purchase. The trailer I am buying said that I need 17 +/- 1 to the top of the ball. I know that I need a 2inch ball. Can you please advise? Also, I need to purchase a 7-pin wiring harness for my car, as well as a trailer brake controller. Can you advise on this as well? Thanks so much for your help! Your website is fantastic! And I am super excited about the EcoHitch! My best.

We can help you get your 2015 Subaru Outback Wagon ready for trailer towing.
The 2-inch Eco-Hitch # 306-X7601 is a confirmed fit on your Outback. This particular hitch option offers no-drill installation, unlike the others. A installation video is linked for you.
For wiring and brake controller installation I suggest the reliable and easy-to-use Prodigy P3 # 90195. This controller offers easy set-up, a nice display you can customize to your preferences and built-in diagnostics. This is pretty much the gold standard in brake controllers. For an essentially identical unit just with fewer of the advanced features the P2 # 90885 is still a good option.
You will first need to install a 4-pole harness # 118467 which is a simple plug-and-play installation. Then our brake controller install kit # ETBC7 will complete the wiring. These two parts have all the items needed to wire a 7-way connector and brake controller. A complete video is included.
For a ball mount you can refer to the linked article that explains exactly how to measure and select a ball mount with the correct rise or drop to keep the hitched trailer level. Level trailers tend to handle better. Once you know the rise or drop you need just refer to the linked page for 2-inch ball mounts.
If you would rather not have to measure you could instead simply select an adjustable ball mount like # C45900 which allows for easy height adjustment and which comes complete with two sizes of hitch ball, 2-inch and 2-5/16-inch.
