Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

2012 Kia Sorento

Items arrived in 4 days. Hitch fit perfectly on my 2012 Sorento. Installed it by myself using a cardboard box and small hydraulic jack to position hitch in place. Did not even bother to jack up my Sorento. Had to shift exhaust slightly to allow tightening of bolts on passenger side. This wasn't any problem. Installation took roughly 1 hour. I watched the installation video before I started and installation was just as easy as the video showed it would be. Hitch looks great. See attached photo. Will buy from etrailer again when I am in the market for more accessories.

2011 Kia Sorento

I ordered my hitch on Monday and it was on my doorstep Thurs morning with free standard shipping! The hitch installed easily, I recommend starting with the muffler side first so you can easily manuver the hitch around the muffler. I used a car jack and milk crate to hold up the hitch while working on it.

I was concerned about the looks of the hitches that drop down under the muffler, but it is barely noticible with the Draw-TIte on my Kia.

I don't write reviews often but I just had to in this case because Etrailer is just so great to buy from. They have a great website with great product descriptions and reviews, and fast reliable shipping!!

by:

I installed the hitch today - perfect fit. Since I didn't have an
assistant to help hold the hitch up, I used a jack stand on one end
and a floor jack on the other end. I did not release the exhaust
hangers, so had a little trouble getting the front bolt on passenger
side in, but managed to complete the job in less than an hour.
Product gets a 5-STAR rating. Also, super fast shipping from Missouri
to Virginia.

Receiver not long enough to clear rear bumper when fold up Kuat bike rack. Had to get receiver extender. Not sure what to expect from a trailer hitch, it works.

1 year later hitch still too short hasnt grown any despite regular watering. Not sure what type of review you want from a trailer hitch.

by:

It fit well and I was able to install by myself but I would highly recommend using something like PB Blaster to clean out the threads on the vehicle before trying to install. Once I applied the lubricant and used a wire brush to clean it out a bit, the bolts worked perfectly. Not so much before applying it.

by:
2010 Hyundai Santa Fe

It fit exactly how I expected. The Santa Fe has threaded bolt holes ready for this so there is no removing of parts or anything, just bolt it on. I did use a jack to hold it in place so I could work around the exhaust but that wasn't too bad at all. Pulled a trailer the next day with it and it was just fine! This is the second hitch I've ordered from etrailer and I come back to them because their products never have problems with installation or how to get it done! My dad uses [trailer rental place] and he swears by it, but seems to run into installation issues from time to time. etrailer is my source for this kind of solution!! P.S. spend the extra and buy the light adapter kits that install inline with the rear lights of the vehicle. Took me 5 minutes to put it in and there are no permanent damages to the wiring of the vehicle and it works without causing issues to the light system either!! Well worth it!

2012 Hyundai Santa Fe

Excellent customer service and the products worked as specified. The installation videos on the etrailer site were extremely helpful, especially for the wiring harness.

The hitch fit properly and was easy to install, with an exception that is not etrailer's issue. I installed the hitch on a 2012 Hyundai Santa Fe and the factory attachment points were left uncovered (dumb, Hyundai!) and so the threads were badly rusted. Clearing them so the bolts would take required first brushing them with a conical wire brush, clearing the first few threads with a tap (10 X 1.25 metric) and then following on with a thread chaser. No small pain. Etrailer should consider selling a kit with those bits and instructions for prepping the threads. Once done the installation was seamless.

As for the wiring harness it is clear they do not make one for vehicles equipped with a factory tow package. Even though there were connectors under the car installing the wiring harness required dismantling a bunch of the interior trim in the back of the vehicle, popping off the extrenal connectors, pulling the factory wiring harness into the vehicle, attaching the aftermarket harness, pulling part of the harness back outside the car and then reassembling the interior trim. It was an hour of wasted time and fussing that would not have been necessary witha proper harness compatible with the existing factory wiring harness.

Very simple to install. It definitely takes two people as the hitch is very heavy. We installed it with all four tires on the ground. Made it kind of tough to torque the bolts but we did it. The muffler is in the way so one person has to move it slightly and hold it while the other tightens the bolts.
Very sturdy product. We'll be using this hitch primarily for our bike rack although a small trailer might be in our future.
Looking forward to many years of service.

2013 Kia Sorento

Heavy duty compared to my car hitch but still looks good. Easy to install on a new car but on my 3 year old vehicle the hardest part was cleaning out the bolt holes on the frame. Make sure you don't try to skip that step. Will be nice to have the higher tongue weight rating since I plan to use it with a 4 bike carrier.

by:
2011 Kia Sorento

I was extremely pleased to first find delivery so prompt on my order (less than 36 hours to Michigan)and then that installation was so simple. I did find however that if you are installing on an older vehicle, ( in this case, a 2011 Sante Fe) you may have to spend some time cleaning out the threaded holes in your vehicle frame. A small dremel wire brush attachment did the trick. Installation is simple by installing the passenger side first. I removed the rubber hanger bracket and pulled the muffler to the side to expose the threaded holes. I will certainly be using eTrailer in the future.

by:
2010 Hyundai Santa Fe

Hooked this up by myself along with the correct wiring harness and used it to haul a 6' x 12' U-Haul trailer with no issues. Saved hundreds of dollars and got top notch equipment shipped and received within a couple of days. Would highly recommend etrailer to anyone needing a trailer hitch.

2011 Kia Sorento

Jusit finished putting the hitch on the 2011 Kia Sorento and and it is just great. I had to use a bottle brush and WD40, to clean the threads of the frame, but once done it was great. I put the bolts in the nuts before I put the frame on and they went in so well when I put the hitch in place. Did the job myself and coould have used an extra set of hands, but had the hitch on 5 gallon plastic buckets put together and shims and went on really well. Great product and can't wait to use it for the bike rack. Thanks for shipping it so FAST, I was surprised and happy it arrived when it did. Thanks again and very happy with the hitch and the hitch lock.

2015 Kia Sorento

2012 KIA Sorento - Product got to me quickly. Installation of hitch took about 15 minutes. Wiring harness took about 60 minutes but could be done faster. Both pieces were as described. This is my second order from E Trailer and was extremely pleased with the service.

by:
2013 Kia Sorento

This was just about as simple as you can get on a new Kia Sorento! Four bolts into existing tapped holes in the frame. They lined up perfectly to the holes in the hitch. The only thing you need is a helper to hold that heavy beast up on one side while you bolt in the other side. As mentioned by others, you also need to push the muffler toward the center of the car a little to gain better access to the bolts but it's no big deal. Two people, one wrench, and 1/2 hour and you're done with tools put away.

by:
2012 Hyundai Santa Fe

My girlfriend and I installed the hitch on our 2012 Hyundai Santa Fe in just under 45 minutes. the hardest part was lining up the holes above the muffler.By just pushing the muffler towards the drivers side, the bolts are easy to insert and tighten as long as you use a ratchet with a swivel and a long extension! we have a full lift in our garage so it was a simple installation! I'm not so sure it would be so simple lying on your back with the car on the ground.

by:

This installation was a piece of cake . I set the hitch on my motorcycle jack. Had my wife pump it while I guided it into place. The muffler did cover one of the holes where the bolt went in. It is mounted in rubber , so I had my wife hold it over with a short pipe .Used my air impact, then torqued it. Wish the wiring would have been this easy!

by:
2012 Kia Sorento

I installed this hitch in about 20-30 min. It fit perfect, no problems whatsoever. Looks great. They even sent a hitch pin with the bolts & washers (grade 8) mounting kit (included with the hitch). The delivery time was VERY fast, 2-3 days.

by:

Easy to install, has held up without any rust or corrosion. Inserting and removing my bike rack has been easy. Great product and price

by:
2010 Hyundai Santa Fe

Fast shipping. For sure a 2 man job. Difficulty was with the bolts not wanting to screw into the embedded nuts and the exhaust being in the way. Hitch itself was fine and was received as ordered.

by:

First let me say the customer service at etrailer.com was excellent. The item shipped the next day after the order was placed and it was delivered within just a couple of business days. I received email notifications at every point during the process so I was always well informed.

This is a great product--it's well made and was easy to install. It was an awesome experience overall!

2013 Kia Sorento

Great product! Took about 20 minutes to install on our 2013 Kia Sorento. Certainly beats the $300 we paid to have a receiver put on a different SUV. Worth the money

by:

A good product but much more difficult to install than I thought. You will need a long extender on your socket wrench to get the fwd right side bolt in AND you will need to have help from someone else to push the muffler to the side while getting the rigth front bolt started into the threads. It took much longer than 30 min to install.

by:
2011 Kia Sorento

The hitch receiver was perfect! A really easy to use website, great response time on email (I had a few questions), and great price point for the product. Would highly recommend this company.

by:
2012 Hyundai Santa Fe

The hitch arrived in 2 days, which is amazing for the weight of it and the fact it was free shipping. It took longer to get it out of the packaging than it did to install. 15 minutes box to installation.
Great product.

Customer service rep Bill was great. Product was great as well. Very strong trailer hitch and easy to install.

  • How is the Spare Accessed when a Draw Tite Hitch # 36511 is installed on 2012 Hyundai Santa Fe
The Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch # 36511 that you referenced does not require you to access the spare tire differently than you normally would. If you check out the picture I attached you will see that the hitch does a good job of not interfering. If anything you might need to angle the spare in and out to get it around the cross tube of the hitch but that should not be too difficult. I attached an install video for you to check out also.

  • Trailer Hitch Recommendation for 2011 Hyundai Santa Fe for Thule Bike Rack
If the bike rack you are buying was intended for a 2 inch trailer hitch then you'd want the Draw Tite hitch part # 75684 for your 2011 Hyundai Santa Fe. If instead it's designed for a 1-1/4 inch hitch you'd want the Draw Tite # 36511. I wasn't sure which hitch size the bike rack was designed for but it's best to go with a hitch size that matches it directly as using hitch adapters like the # HTAD can reduce capacity by 50% and add movement to the overall setup.

  • Solution for Weld Nuts on 2012 Hyundai Santa Fe that Won't Allow Hitch Bolts to Thread In
Your weld nut issue is a very common problem when installing a hitch on a vehicle that has had a few years on it. The solution is the thread tap like you mentioned. Just pick the correct size tap and take your time with it and you'll be totally fine. I have included a few links on hitch installation tips, cleaning weld nuts, and a video on cleaning weld nuts for you.

  • Hitch Classes Available for a 2013 Kia Sorento 4 Cylinder
For hitches the Classification is in numbers and not letters. For example for your 2013 Kia Sorento with a 4 cylinder engine we have the Class III hitch part # C13073 which has a 2 inch opening and we have a Class II hitch # 36511 which has a 1-1/4 inch opening. I like to recommend 2 inch hitches more than 1-1/4 inch as they have more options available for them for accessories. I attached a help article on hitch Classifications for you to check out as well.

  • Does the Class II Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Install the Same as the Class III on a 2012 Kia Sorento
The installation of Draw-Tite trailer hitches # 75684 and # 36511 will be very similar. You can use the video as a guide but make sure to follow the instructions for the Class II hitch which I have linked for you. I do recommend the Class III trailer hitch though for a few reasons. First, the 2 inch receiver and more stout construction provided a higher tongue weight capacity. Second, there are many more accessory options that fit a 2 inch receiver than there are for a 1-1/4 inch receiver....
