Video Transcript for Gen-Y Adjustable 2-Ball Mount with Stacked Receivers Review GY65FR

Hi everyone, Aiden here with etrailer. Today we're gonna be taking a look at this adjustable ball mount from Gen-Y for our 2-1/2" hitches. This is going to give you a couple of different options in terms of hooking up. We've got our 2-5/16" ball and a 2" ball on the bottom that we can access just by unpinning, flipping it around, and reinserting it into one of the stacked receiver tubes. Depending on which one of these you use, your weight capacity will vary just a little bit. With the 2" ball, it's gonna have a gross trailer weight rating of 16,000 pounds with a maximum tongue weight, that's the downward pressure, of 1500 pounds.

Flipping this around to the 2-5/16" ball, that one is going to give you a 21,000 pound gross trailer weight rating, and a maximum tongue weight of 3000 pounds. So it does give you quite a bit more. As you've probably noticed, the welded plate on the ball itself is helping me to line up the pin hole whenever I'm making my height adjustments. And with those height adjustments, it uses these three stacked receiver tubes. Each of them is going to be a standard 2-1/2" receiver tube and it's going to allow you to get up to a 6" drop in the very bottom position.

Taking it out of the hitch though, I will point out that you can flip this around 180 degrees and allow you to get essentially the exact same rise out of it that you do get a drop. So in this position, we can get up to a 6" rise if need be, making this a very versatile setup. And it's also a good time to point out that this does not come with its own hitch pin, so you will need to provide your own. I always recommend a locking hitch pin, especially with a nicer ball mount like this, just to keep it safe. If I could make a recommendation, the etrailer one is a really solid option with the threading lock core, making it nice and secure so no one can mess with it when you're not around.

There are other drop variations of this exact ball mount that are gonna be functionally the exact same, same construction, and same weight capacities, just with the different drop heights. And those ones come with a pintle lock attachment. That's really the only difference here. So if you don't need the pintle lock attachment, and you don't need any other different heights, then don't worry about it, this is the one for you. But if you need more adjustment or you need an option that can support a lunette ring trailer, then one of those other ones is gonna be the right one for you.

Taking this out from the hitch and flipping it back around, something you probably noticed the first time is that it's got two hitch pin holes. These are gonna be spaced 1" apart, and what it allows you to do is get a little bit more clearance from your vehicle when hooking up to your trailer by using the outer hole or sliding it to that inner one if we don't need as much clearance. For reference when we do measurements in a bit, I'm going to use this innermost hole. So if you want to know what the measurements will be with this one, just add an inch. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the center of the ball where our trailer's gonna hook up, that's gonna be 12-1/4". That's gonna let us know how far our trailer will be whenever we hook it up to our vehicle. And then from that same point at the hitch pin hole to the very outer edge of the ball mount, that's going to be 13-1/2". That lets us know our overall distance added to the back of the vehicle when this is in the hitch. One thing we can do though, if we're not actively towing, is actually unpin this and flip the whole ball around in the receiver tube, reinserting it sideways through the back right there, and what that will let us do is actually just reduce our amount that we're adding to the back of the vehicle. In this state, from the center of the hitch pin hole to the face of the ball mount, it's going to be 9-1/4". So if we want to leave this in the hitch between towing sessions and not take up as much room, then we can do this for a more stored position. Now the overall construction here for the ball itself is going to be a black powder coated steel. You can see after hooking up to a trailer, it does have some scratches and scuffs on it but it's held up, overall, fairly well. And then on the main body itself, it's going to have a zinc primer base with this hammered powder coat finish on top. That's going to give it this really unique look and texture, but it does hold up, at least from what I've seen, a lot better than just a standard powder coat. It feels a lot more durable, and again, shares that same solid steel construction. So if you've got a truck that's riding at stock height and you don't have any need for a pintle lock, carrying your lunette ring trailer, then this is gonna be a great option for you. The adjustability is very easy, the construction is super solid, and Gen-Y just makes a good product. Down the road, if you do pick up a lunette ring trailer and you have a need for that pintle lock attachment, you can get it separately and just add it to your existing ball mount, so it can kind of grow with you and you can have that option down the road if you need it. Right out of the box though, if you need more adjustment or you need that pintle lock, check out some of the other options. They're pretty much going to be the exact same thing, so you can find the right one for your truck and trailer combination. But for right now, that's gonna do it for our look at this adjustable ball mount from Gen-Y on our 2-1/2" hitch. Thanks for watching.

Insert this heavy-duty mount into your 2-1/2" hitch to get 3 stacked 2-1/2" receivers for mounting the included 2" ball, 2-5/16" ball, or other hitch-mounted accessory.

It is a strong hitch. If you leave it in your receiver plan on it rusting even with the coating that it has on it. The coating on the ball with most cases need to be scraped off before your hitch will even fit over it so that will rust right away as they normally do. Was hoping the rest of it would look a little better after one year.

Worth the money if you are pulling heavy loads.fit and finish it top quality.

works great, heavy duty, good investment

Seems to be an impressive product. But even more impressed with the purchase experience. Great price, great freight policy, it was packed protectively and arrived way ahead of schedule. I’ll be looking for more products to buy from this etrailer.

The order process was smooth. But, when trying to find out about the the lifetime warranty offered by Gen Y on the rubber components in the hitch Nicole could not answer my question.

I asked if I was able to purchase through you and if not could I purchase from Gen Y even though I bought the hitch from you.

This is something customer service should know the answer too.
You would have gotten five stars but it was ruined by lack of knowledge by your staff.

by:

anyways thus far it's a #5 I haven't really used it but I will sooner than later. Your hitch is on this bad boy!! Thank you for considering my 2020 Ford Velocity Blue F350 Lariat Special addition!!!

by:

Awesome hitch, the tongue weight scale is the cheesiest thing I've ever seen on a product with this price point- a sticker that was peeling up when I received it and a little white paint mark that wiped away when I used an alcohol wipe to clean it before covering with super glue to try and make it hold up past the first rain event. Come on Gen Y your engineers can surely come up with something better that will actually last for years. You got the hitch down, now just focus on the details.

First impression massive, heavy Built Stout. My truck is always hooked to a trailer so I figured I would try a nicer set up I was using the B&W which is great for the average Joe that just needs to pull a trailer every now and then but this is a whole new world first trailer I pulled with It I could feel the difference right away it was smoother the vibrations and harsh thump feelings that I would normally get when pulling the trailers when I hit rough roads or bumps was not as bad or gone. It definitely made a huge difference super easy to move height if needed and an added bonus I didn’t think of is that it pushes the trailer back further so you can get a little tighter turning when backing up if needed and i can open the tailgate and it won’t hit the jack on the trailer. On top of that when people see it it’s a conversation starter There are not many of these out there so they are intrigued by the size and how it works. Bottom line in my opinion if you’re towing all the time it is worth the investment. I would invest in another.

Solid 6” drop hitch that is extremely heavy but well made. Very smooth with bigger loads. Required some modification to my Fab Four bumper for proper fit. I gave it four stars because my hitch didn’t have the set screw option as advertised.

03 Duramax 2500hd with six inch lift, 35” tires
16000lb Curtis receiver (well made five stars)

by:

Would definitely order parts from your company again...thank you

by:

Built like a brick s@%thouse. Works great! Keep in mind I use this for pulling same trailer loaded same way every day. I could figure out optimal hitch weight and keep it there

by:

Quality product. Very Robust. I bought this hoping to dampen some of the shock my truck, which is about 15,000 lbs, transmits to my boat, which is about 8500 lbs, thinking it may help with the boat's longevity. It helps with big shocks for sure, but the hitch needs to be in the top 2/3rds of its rated capacity to noticeably dampen the shock between your trailer and tow rig. It works wonders on my loaded dump trailer.

by:

This thing is built like a tank. I have towed a few items that have been reasonably heavy (although not at 21,000lbs). I can say that it does a good job at limiting the aftershock of terrible roads that I have been on. It does a good job and is easily versatile to use with the adjustments available. The hitch should endure travels towing for quite a long time considering how well it is built.

by:

Best hitch ever... performs above and beyond as advertised. Will never use straight or drop hitch again. We pull our bobcat up the 4wd drive beaches of North Carolina which are often bumpy. This hitch separated the trailer movement from the truck. Well worth the money. Do it once and never do it again!

by:

Very nice, well built hitch, but the torsion part of it only works well when towing near the upper load limit of the hitch. Buy the same hitch without the torsion if you are not going to be pulling heavy loads near hitch capacity. You'll save lots!

by:

My brother and my son recommended this to me. I got to ride along with my son as he hauled a 10,000 lb. camper. Wow! I couldn’t believe the difference it made in the ride! The ride was so much smoother not to mention the wear and tear it saves on the tow vehicle! I’m impressed with the service from etrailer also. The package arrived in great condition, everything was there, and it even came a day earlier than expected! I highly recommend them!!!

by:

I received my torsion hitch as promised from etrailer. The hitch is built with quality
And very simple to install. I will be using it for the first time in a coupe of days.
