This ball mount is perfect for towing your utility trailer, mid-size camper, or small equipment trailer. The torsion design provides shock absorption for a smooth ride. The mount inserts into your 2" hitch receiver and your hitch ball (sold separately) secures onto the mount's ball platform. You can also adjust the height to get up to a 6" drop. For a smooth, steady ride when towing your trailer, the Glyder is the way to go.

Built-In Shock Absorption for a Smooth Ride

Hauling a packed equipment or utility trailer can lead to uncomfortable road shock. Driving over bumps, potholes, and uneven terrain can result in a rough ride for you and your cargo. It can even potentially damage your trailer. This Gen-Y Hitch ball mount is designed to absorb road shock at the connection point to create a safe, smooth, and stable ride. This is thanks to the internal construction of the mount, which is similar to that of a torsion axle.

Pivot points are built into the Gen-Y ball mount. This allows for movement between the shank, which slides into your truck's hitch, and the ball platform, which provides the connection point for your trailer. When your vehicle hits a bump, the ball platform will move up or down accordingly.

torsion

Built into the Gen-Y mount is a tube with an inner bar that is surrounded by rubber cords. As the ball platform rises or falls, the inner bar twists inside of the tube, attempting to follow the platform's motion. But the rubber cords prevent the bar from twisting too far. And as the bar turns, these cords compress to absorb the shock. This means that any shock experienced by your truck can be absorbed before it reaches your trailer, and the shock experienced by your trailer won't get transferred to your truck.

Use with Weight Distribution

Replace the ball platform on the Glyder with a weight distribution shank (325-GH-12011) so you can attach your weight distribution system to the mount. Just unbolt the platform and mount the shank in its place.

Awesome product!! Performs exactly as advertised. I have 2011 Ford F-150 with Bilstein 5100 shocks towing a 4,000 lbs horse stock trailer. Before with a standard ball mount there was occasional bucking on harsh roads and the ride quality felt a little bouncy. After test driving with this Gen-Y hitch on a variety of road conditions and over railroad tracks, I couldn’t be happier! Night and day difference with ride quality - you can see the trailer in the mirror gently moving up and down with the bumps but barely even feel anything in the truck. Would highly recommend and look forward to hauling my horse with it and expect it will be a smoother ride for my horse as well. When using this hitch, I would recommend adding a Roadmaster Quiet Hitch U-Bolt Clamp as their was a little play with the hitch in the receiver and made for a nice solid setup.

I bought this mount last year to see if it would reduce bouncing and jarring the contents in my vintage Airstream. When loaded, my tongue weight is right at the top of the optimum range for the Glyder at just under 700 lbs with a trailer weight of approximately 5500 lbs.

I have pulled the camper about 4000 miles using this mount. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to help smooth the ride in many circumstances. On severe bumps, it might be worse. The primary problem appears to be that the spring in the hitch is insufficient for the load.

Just setting the hitch on the ball results in fully bottoming the travel. That means it's basically rigid in one direction since the travel limits are metal to metal. The metal to metal travel limit design seem to increase jarring of the contents rather than reduce it when the hitch moves from limit to limit.

The hitch seems to be well made and works better on lighter trailers. I have used it on my 16' utility trailer and it seems ok there. However, even unloaded that trailer will nearly bottom out the travel range with a 450 lb tongue weight.

After experimenting with different hitch setups trying to make this work, I have gone back to a basic fixed ball mount. This hitch made the jarring worse in too many situations as it lacks enough spring to control the trailers vertical movement. When it bottoms out it tends to hit very hard. This thing is just sitting in my shop pretty much unused for the last year. Completely disappointed with this product, but maybe it will work for you?

by:

I believe it did as advertised with reducing jolts. However, you do have to jack up your trailer quite a bit higher to get over the ball, which is a bit annoying. The more worrisome thing is I believe it made the trailer a little more susceptible to sway. I didn't do thorough testing so this is just my impression. Take it with a grain of salt.

by:

I use it for towing my Polaris RZR Pro XP on a 7x12' trailer. The tongue is no doubt less than 450 pounds but the Glyder Hitch still works very good by decreasing the rocking back and forth motion and smoothing out the bumps and potholes. It even worked well when I had to slam the brakes on.

by:

Significant difference for my cargo. Less bouncing of my motorcycles, and every thing else beside them. A more enjoyable ride in the truck. Much less wear and tear on vehicle suspension and frame.

Significant improvement over my previous setup. The trailer does not bounce, and does not cause the truck to bounce. Very pleased.

by:

Some of my trailers can be hard to unhook due to the angled ball. Other than that issue I really like the performance of the hitch jolt softener.

by:

Great communication with etrailer. Hitch came in heavy duty wrapping and is the highest quality hitch I have ever purchased. Going to use it for many years to come. So impressed with etrailer I will be ordering some new parts for my boat trailer.

Wouldn’t recommend for anything less than a 1/2ton vehicle. Wanted to use this on a Volvo XC90 and it was just too big.

Gen-Y typically makes excessively heavy-duty items so this may be overkill for your Volvo. I recommend something like this item # C45240 or if you want the adjustable ball mount item # RP21141.

This product worked great. Although it wasn't the way I planned it, the first time I used this trailer mount, I towed my car 1600+ miles round trip.

by:

Love this hitch. Easy to level the trailer. No more rough ride.

by:

Definitely reduces vibration, loaded or empty.
Used with 7,000# car hauler.

by:

Built extremely well, this looks like a quality product. I haven't towed with it yet, but expect it will perform well.

Excellent hitch for my sled trailer! When bringing our 5 snowmobiles up north with the open deck trailer, tongue bounce felt like you were riding a bucking bronco the journey. This trailer hitch took 95% of the tongue bounce OUT! The trailer smoothly rides down the road with little to no jerkiness in the cab of the F150. I will definitely recommend this hitch to others!

by:

Very nice product.
I pull a lightweight
aluminum trailer with a stiff suspension truck. I previously had the tongue break. This definitely eases the shock load on the trailer. It's well built and effective. Etrailer is one of the best e-commerce companies I've ever dealt with. Their customer service is as good as a hometown partner!

by:

This worked great for us at reducing the push/pull feeling from the trailer going over bumps. I use this on a 2011 F-250 to pull a 3k-4k lbs popup camper. To get the camper towing level I used a ball with a 1" rise. Even so, it works great for us. You are still going to feel the movement as this doesn't completely remove it, but it does seem to do a better job at distributing the shock. There are two stops that limit the travel of the hitch ball about the torsion axle pivot point of this hitch. Based upon where my loaded trailer makes this mechanism sit, I'm likely on the upper end of tongue weight allowed, but still have enough margin to allow for more travel.
Shock absorption aside, the hitch is extremely well built out of some thick steel, comes with a coating that looks a lot more durable than the standard thin paint/powder coating, and because of all of this is rather heavy. I definitely would purchase this hitch again. I feel that between this hitch and the air bags in the rear of the truck, we can go camping with a lot less bounciness and driver fatigue.

by:

Installed this hitch on 2018 F150 and pull our center console boat from Texas to Florida a couple of times a year. Hitch seemed to improve the ride, took some of the shock off of the truck. Would definitely recommend this product.

by:

This hitch is so sick, bro. It makes my pretty boy truck look dope. I’ve used it at least four times in the last year, hauling leaves around and stuff. And the other 361 days it has hung out there looking cool. And I can step on it to get to the bike rack because I’m short. The torsion box springs dampen vibrations really well over bumps. But I’ve never had a hitch before so can’t compare.

by:

Hitch works well, provides noticeable improvement to ride. Solid, heavy duty and well made. Only negative is, ball sits at a slight forward angle when unhitched. Makes lining up with receiver slightly awkward as ball pivots down and back slightly as weight is lowered onto.

  • Ball Mount Platform Thickness of Gen-Y Glyder Shock Absorbing Ball Mount
I reached out to Gen-Y, who told me the thickness is approximately 1/2" for the Gen-Y Glyder Shock Absorbing Ball Mount for 2" Hitches - 2" Drop - 7K # 325-GH-12001 and the 6" Drop # 325-GH-12005. Along with that, the platform has a 1 inch diameter hole, so for a hitch ball you will need 2-5/16" Hitch Ball # 63847 or 2" Hitch Ball # 40038. It does not come with a hitch pin or lock, so I highly recommend adding a lock, the Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock for 2" Hitches # e98880.
