Adam: What's going on everybody, Adam here with etrailer. Today we're going to be taking a look at your options for multi ball mounts by Curt. If you have a two inch hitch and multiple different trailers, you plan on hauling, we have a couple different ball mounts that are really going to be the Swiss army knife of ball mounts. You've got to buy one and it's going to take care of all those needs you may have when hauling. They have a couple of similarities and a couple of differences, so we're going to go over all of those with you now. So we're going to have some that are just going to have two balls and then some are going to have three.

These have pretty much the same exact specs, but there's a couple of little bit of differences.First things first, the three ball mount is going to include an inch and 7/8ths ball, and the two ball mount is not. The inch and 7/8ths ball is going to have a gross trailer weight of 5,000 pounds and a tongue weight of 500 pounds. Our two inch ball on all three is going to have a gross trailer weight of 7,500 pounds and a tongue weight of 750 pounds. And all three are also going to have a two and 5/16ths inch ball on top, and that's going to have a gross trailer weight of 10,000 pounds with a tongue weight of 1,000 pounds. All of them are going to be made of a steel construction.

They do have hollow shanks and they have a nice powder-coated finish. Both the three and the two are going to have an overall length of one foot. They have a steel construction with a hollow shank, and they are going to come with a powder-coated finish and two different color options. You can either get chrome or you can get the black powder-coated balls.Let's take some measurements. On the three ball from the center of the hitch pin hole to the inch and 7/8ths and two inch ball it's going to be about...

And then from the center of the hitch pin hole to the center of the two and 5/16ths ball, it is going to be about. On our two ball mount from the center of the hitch pin hole to the two inch and inch and 7/8ths ball to the very center, It's going to be about eight and a quarter inches. Now we can go ahead and put the ball mount in. I'm going to be using the two and 5/16ths inch ball, and I am going to be using etrailer lock, 5/8ths inch diameter, just because I like to have that added comfort whenever I leave my ball mount in my hitch.I have a stock Tahoe and it's really the average ride height for most vehicles you're going to be hauling with, so I really don't need a rise or drop. So this straight shank multi ball is perfect.

To sum it all up, if you don't have a vehicle that's a little bit higher than your stock ride height, maybe you have bigger tires, maybe a tiny bit of lift, this is going to be the great way to get a really cost-effective ball mount that's going to cover all of your bases. And that's going to do it for our look at the options for Curt multi ball mounts..

Solid product! Built well. The arm itself is a solid piece (not hollow). Seems to be able to withstand years and years of abuse. I ordered this product and a few other items, and for some reason my order was sent to the wrong address. The customer service at etrailer.com were OUTSTANDING!! They first called for a follow up to see if I got my package, and then immediately got in touch with the shipping company to see where my parts were at. Long story short, they sent me out ANOTHER parts order immediately while an investigation was going on with the first order. These guys are AMAZING, I have never had a company do that in my years of ordering online send out another replacement of my order just to make sure that I was a satisfied customer. I will ALWAYS get parts that I need from a company that helps out their customers in that way. Thanks eTrailer!!

The Best Multi-Ball Mount I Have Ever Seen. All Chromed Perfectly Welded In Place Balls. Solid As A Rock Steel Construction, Black Powder Coated And Baked Steel. I Will Have This
Hitch Forever. While Your At It Get Yourself A Keyed Locking Pin (A Few Drops Of Oil, And A Little Grease) Will Keep This Beauty Fully Functional For A Long Time To Come! "JustBob"

Very solid. The only thing I dislike is that the balls started to spot rust after leaving it in the hitch over some days in the winter. I imagine it was due to salt exposure from the road.

by:

heavy duty product, very pleased and quick ship

by:

shipped fast and works great

by:

appears solid with good protective coat ing

Cool to follow up on your product. The multi-ball works as it should. I bought it since I didn't know if the trailer I would get would be 2" or 2 1/4. I tow a 4,000 # trailer/race car with it.

It's a heavy piece to carry around, but I feel that it will last a good many years. I did make a spacer to cram into the receiver, so the hitch doesn't rattle as much.
Otherwise it's great.

Picked up my teardrop in ABQ on 2/17/23, and the Curt ball mount lined up perfectly with no drop/rise, and the extra length gave clearance for my rear door mounted spare tire. This mount is a beast, and the "overbuilt" nature of it gave me confidence that my Bronco would tow the teardrop easily. I also got the Curt Echo wireless brake controller, which synced easily to my phone and was easy to install, set up, and use. Overall a great towing experience, thanks to etrailer and Curt!

by:

Very versatile - can use it on both my vehicles that have very different hitch height. Clean welds, super solid. Weighs a LOT!

by:

Works great used for 3 different trailer we have handy it's heavy well made.

by:

the packaging showed up as a mess, need to see if its damaged when I open it

by:

Fits our VW Touareg perfectly and allows us to tow a variety of things now. As can be seen in the pictures the hitch has a +5-inch gap between the bumper and the vertical adjustment pillar and the trailer itself is out further so there's enough room to get to the rear hatch and maneuver the vehicle/trailer.

I needed a hitch that I could haul my work trailer with and still drop the tailgate without dropping the trailer. I looked on etrailer and found one that would work barely but decided to call etrailer and see if anyone had any ideas. Steve answered and looked after I told him my requirements and came up with this. This has a longer distance from ball to pin by a few inches compared to the one I found so my tailgate will still drop even if I’m at an angle to my trailer or on a hill. Also with the adjustable height it’s great. Awesome hitch. Solid for a good price. ??

by:

Hitch is a solid unit. I bought this to accommodate my 10,000lb hitch. Adjusts easily to get the right ride height. No issues with the hitch at all.

Coming in at about 45 pounds, the D900 Curt Multi-Ball Adjustable Ball Mount is a BEAST!
I purchased for use with my '08 Expedition towing either a small utility trailer w/ 1 7/8" ball or my DooLittle Bullitt cargo trailer w/ 2" ball.
I needed 5 inches of drop (at least) for both.
This is just about the only economical mount in which to accomplish this. Most if not all two ball mounts are 2" and 2 5/16" balls.
Many reviews comment on the length that this mount sticks out and initially that was a concern of mine.
Please see the Q&A of the D900 product page to address those issues.
Short story: A hollow/tubular extension shank of (about or greater)15" reduces vehicle hitch capacity by 50%.
The D900 shank and other components are SOLID steel. No reduced capacity.
Specifically in my case; this extra length will allow me some personal maneuvering room when hooked up to the DooLittle and raising the lift gate of my Expedition.
Clearance between raised lift gate and cargo trailer was about two inches using my old shank, and I should about double that.
The anti-rattle tightening bolt is a nice touch.
This is my first Etrailer purchase, but not my last.

Quaility is top notch, price is great, can't beat it. It's perfect if you need a little more distance from your hitch and your bumper. I did not get a extended A frame on my trailer and with this hitch it works great. I'm pulling a 24ft cargo trailer 10k rating.
I added 4 locking pins so I don't have to worry about anything missing.

by:

I have nothing but good things to say about this hitch all the way around. It's been a year and I have had zero problems. Easy on line ordering, fast shipping and arrival, good quality. Will never buy my trailering needs anywhere else.

by:

Works great! No more having to remember the right ball for the job

by:

Got to tow a boat trailer that sits 6" below the hitch when level. Probably overkill to use a 45 lb hitch for primarily a 2k lb boat, but I'm sure it will outlast both the trailer and truck.
As far as the 'protective coating' I don't care much if it's not pretty, and for a solid 2" piece if metal, a lil rust is the least of my concerns.

by:

This is a very impressive hitch and everyone asks me where I got it. Perfect for my dump-run trailer. Super heavy duty and thanks to the length it gives me even more turning radius with my trailer than I've ever had. This is actually the longest one I could find that still has the high weight hauling specifications I needed.

  • Recommendations For Adding A Friction Sway Control Kit To A Ball Mount
Though the Curt Multi-Ball Mount for 2" Hitches # C45655 can definitely be used with a trailer that has brakes, there will be no way to attach a sway control kit, like the Reese # 83660, to it. What you will need to do is go with a standard ball mount, like the Curt # C45030, and then attach the Reese Sway-Control Bracket for 2" Ball Mounts # RP26003 to it between the ball and the platform. This will allow you to get a friction sway control kit, again like the # 83660, attached and working...
