Hi there, trailer owners. Today, we're gonna be taking a look at and showing you how to install Curt's chrome-plated Class III drawbar with a two-inch drop. They come pre-installed in the drop position and you can get these with either a 1 7/8 inch ball, which is what we've got our trailer hooked to right now, or with a two-inch ball, which one I'm holding in my hand here. Now, if we take a look at both of our drawbars here, this is the 1 7/8 ball on the left and the two inch on the right. You can see the drawbars that they come with is gonna have the same weight ratings of 7,500 pounds for its gross towing capacity and 750 pounds for the tongue weight. That's for the drawbar, though, not for what the balls are rated for.

If we look at the top of the ball, we can see that the two-inch ball does have a 7,500 pound rating, so this would be accurate with the two inch. With the 1 7/8 inch ball, the ball's only rated for 3,500 pounds. So you wanna keep that in mind, the lowest-rated component is gonna be your highest-rated thing you're gonna be able to tow. So with this one here, it's gonna be 3,500 pounds. And with our two inch, it's gonna be 7,500 pounds.

But beyond the balls that's in there, they're gonna be identical other than that. And if you wanted to, you could even buy a Curt two-inch ball and pick up the 1 7/8 receiver or vice versa, get the other ball, and you could easily swap these out from one to the other if you wanted to, if you needed two different ball sizes, if you had a couple of different trailers. They're both gonna have a one inch shank hole size for the diameter of the hole. So you just wanna keep that in mind when you're purchasing balls to work with this drawbar. The main thing that sets this drawbar apart from the others is its chrome-plated finish.

That's gonna protect it against rust and corrosion, and it does really give it a good look. You can see how it just pops when you're looking at it. It makes it look like a very premium drawbar with that chrome-plated finish on there. So if the way that everything looks is important to you, then this is probably gonna be a drawbar that's gonna catch your eye. When purchasing a drawbar and deciding on what size you need, you'll wanna check your vehicle height to the top inside edge of your receiver tube, 'cause we wanna make sure that when our trailer's hooked up, it's relatively level and you'll then wanna measure your trailer to the coupler when it is level.

And that way, you can purchase a drawbar that's gonna put those two measurements relatively in line with one another. I always like to go slightly higher on the receiver side so that way my trailer has a little bit up higher in the front, so that way, when I load it down, it sits perfectly level once it's loaded up. We've got the 1 7/8 inch ball here, and we've got a smaller utility trailer here. So let's go ahead and show you a typical latch. We're just gonna drop that on there, and then we'll close our latch. You also wanna put your pin in if you have one included, make sure you hook up your safety cables, your safety chains here. Now, if you have one attached on each side, when you hook these up, you'll wanna cross them. So we'd put the one hooked to the driver's side on our trailer, over to the passenger side on the vehicle, and then do vice versa. Our chains on this trailer are hooked to the same point here in the middle, so it doesn't really matter on those, but if they're on the side, it'll create an X on your chains, which will act as a cradle. So in the event of a disconnect, it'll keep it up off the road. And then last, you just wanna plug in your electrical connection, so that way we've got all of our operating lights on our trailer. And you can see here with our utility trailer hooked up, we're fairly level with slight bit up in the front, so that way it's ready when we load it down. It's gonna be great for getting some work done with these utility trailers, but you're not limited to that. With a 1 7/8 inch ball, you can still bring a lot of water sports carriers with you. We got a kayak one over here. You can probably bring some jet skis and other things as well with you. And with our two-inch ball, we can easily haul a camper, something like this here, or maybe a small car hauler. I've got a car hauler at home that I would easily use something like this with. But chrome is your flavor, this would be a great drawbar for a camper like this. And that completes our look at CURT's chrome-plated Class III drawbar with a two-inch drop..
