Tips for Replacing and Installing Trailer Fenders

  • Do your best to match the dimensions of the new fender to your old one.
    • If a fender was damaged during a blowout, use the opposite fender to get the dimensions.
  • As with all trailer maintenance, don't forget to chock your wheels before getting started.
  • For a bolt-on fender, use your existing mounting hardware, if possible.
    • The old mounting bolts or screws might be stripped or rusted, in which case you'll need to tap them out and buy new hardware.
  • If removing an old, welded-on fender, either carefully chisel it off yourself or take your trailer to a weld shop to have the fender professionally removed.
  • Don't forget to prime and paint the new fender to keep it from rusting (and to match your trailer's finish).
  • Before you start drilling, position the fender where you need it and center it over your wheel well.
    • Mark where you need to drill (measure twice, drill once).
  • Don't tighten down the mounting hardware completely until you're sure the fender is mounted correctly.

These fenders are excellent. The stamping and finish is perfect. They arrived at my house well packaged and damage free. I bought these as an alternative to finding NOS fenders for a 1946 Bantam Jeep trailer I am restoring. They are 2 inches wider than the originals but that's a good thing since I can run more modern wheels and tires without them sticking out of the fenders. Otherwise they are exactly the same as the original fenders except stronger due to the lip on the body side of the fenders. I am very pleased with my purchase and the service I received from etrailer.

by:

Great product, arrived on time and as advertised. I am impressed with the quality. Working with it so far has been quite easy.

by:

I’m extremely happy with this company. My order was turned out in a matter of hours and was delivered as promised; on time and ready for install.

No issues, no problems. They exceeded all of my expectations.

Still extremely happy with the product. It’s been a year and I have had zero issues and I have no complaints.

by:

Fenders are entirely too thin of steel to actually do anything on a trailer. I will put them aside and use on another project. I won’t purchase any other items of this type without decent photos of the item.

by:

Wow, very impressed with the service and shipping time from etrailer. 3 day shipping showed up in 2 days. Both fenders came in one super sturdy box, very well packaged. No dings or dents. Fenders are very thick gauge metal and not flimsy at all. These fenders are very wide at 10.75" but that's exactly what I needed for my application. No complaints at all, I couldn't imagine a better quality fender.

by:

The fender arrived in new condition. I welded it on my trailer. This was a first for me. The material performed as expected. I put a couple coats of paint on it and it is still rust free

by:

These fenders are very sturdy. I used them on a trailer I recently built. I mounted with 2 pieces of angle iron front and back. I am very satisfied.

Fenders are holding up very well.

I was looking to make a custom rear fender for my 2017 Polaris Slingshot SL 3 wheeled roadster and came across the etrailer website. I looked at many different types and styles of fenders before I finally decided on this one. Judging by my preliminary test fitting, it looks like it will fit perfectly once I fabricate the mounting brackets.

I received my fender within a few days after placing my order and it arrived damaged free thanks to the large box it was packaged in. I will definitely be buying more fenders from etrailer in the future.

by:

Nice fenders. Super quick service and delivery. This was my first order and I really liked the little order tracking gadget they emailed me. When I clicked on it I could see every person who handled my order and even every stop the UPS journey went though. 6/5. Will absolutely order from again !

by:

I am very happy with the product; easy to work with it; I modified it cut it to size to accommodated new 15" tires for my enclosed trailer.

Thank you

by:

Very happy. Sturdy fender with an ample lip for attaching hardware.
I trimmed it a little and used it for a hot rod jeep with a fabricated bed.
Great part, would (will) use again.

by:

Super Excited we finally set up an account with etrailer!

by:

I totally rebuilt my trailer from the ground up new paint and new sideboards new coupler new bearings and of course new fenders from etrailer really finished it off! The fenders painted up like nothing and look great!

by:

Sent me the wrong ones will rate again with the correct srt

by:

thanks. the fenders are what he wanted. that was quick getting the fenders. will buy again if needed.

by:

Great product, delivered as described. Going to have them powder coated for the install on my cargo trailer. arrived on time, thanks to the team at etrailer.

by:

No one else had this in stock. This was what I needed to complete a project trailer.

Can not say enough about the great customer service.

by:

I will qualify right from the start, this is not just a product review. This is a review of my overall experience with etrailer.

Let's just say my order had some shipping issues that delayed it. I had to have the fenders for my trailer asap.

After discussing the issue I had with my order, the members of the etrailer team responded. In a very positive way!

Michelle S worked to get my order expedited and I received my fenders on time, undamaged and looking great! Thanks Michelle!

I dont judge a company by just the product it sells, I judge a company by it's products and customer service. Let's just say I was thrilled to get the fenders fast and thrilled they fit and looked great installed.

Etrailer staff you earned a customer for life!

by:

I will only buy from etrailer from now on, you can’t beat them for quick shipping and the right stuff every time.

by:

Fender worked like I needed it to. I cut the fender in half to make two shorty fenders for my kayak trailer. They work great!

by:

These fenders are solidly made and with a little trimming in overall length will fit my application. Items were well packaged and arrived within a few short days of ordering.

by:

I ordered this fender as it was the only one I could find that was wide enough.
The fender has one straight 90degree side. I would have preferred the rounded edge on both sides but with the width issue it will do. The edge with the 90 is a little wavie and since it will be exposed it's a little bothersum. I cut it in half to make two short fenders. It looks like it's gonna work

by:

packaged in a heavy box. No damage. Very good product. Will be buying more

by:

Disappointed with the rust and other blemishes on the fender. It is described as being silver in color (which I guess it is, since that's the color of rolled steel), but the implication is that there is a finish on the fender, not just raw steel, and there is no indication in the description that the fender needs to be painted.

by:

Great fenders, worked great on my total trailer restoration.

The etrailer brand Aluminum Tread Plate Trailer Fender, part # HP96VR measures 10 inches wide by 33 inches long by 17 inches tall and is designed for 13 to 15 inch wheels. This is a weld-on or bolt-on application. To install on your boat trailer you will need to consider how it is to be attached, and how much of a mounting surface you have. The closest option we have available to the dimensions listed in your question is with a Single Axle Trailer Fender like the etrailer # HP29VR. The Aluminum Tread Plate, Jeep-Style, Single-Axle Trailer Fender, item # HP96VR is designed for a weld on application and putting screws and washers through the lip on the inside of the fender would most likely not last. For a fender that will fit your tire size well we have the part # HP29VR. This fender measures 32 inches in length, 10-3/4 inches in width and is 15-1/4 inches in height. It would basically be just a bit wider and longer than your tire size so it would be a nice fit.

  • Can the etrailer Single Axle Trailer Fender # HP29VR be Screwed on Instead of Welded
If you are okay with putting some screws through the Single Axle Trailer Fender # HP29VR that can secure it for travel then I see no reason why not. It is classified as a weld-on application because there are no places that have been made for screws so you will have to install them through the finish which may not look as great as a weld-on installation would. I recommend securing it in at least 3 places if you go this route; both of the sides and one in the middle.
