Tips for Replacing and Installing Trailer Fenders

  • Do your best to match the dimensions of the new fender to your old one.
    • If a fender was damaged during a blowout, use the opposite fender to get the dimensions.
  • As with all trailer maintenance, don't forget to chock your wheels before getting started.
  • For a bolt-on fender, use your existing mounting hardware, if possible.
    • The old mounting bolts or screws might be stripped or rusted, in which case you'll need to tap them out and buy new hardware.
  • If removing an old, welded-on fender, either carefully chisel it off yourself or take your trailer to a weld shop to have the fender professionally removed.
  • Don't forget to prime and paint the new fender to keep it from rusting (and to match your trailer's finish).
  • Before you start drilling, position the fender where you need it and center it over your wheel well.
    • Mark where you need to drill (measure twice, drill once).
  • Don't tighten down the mounting hardware completely until you're sure the fender is mounted correctly.

I purchased a setof Single axle trailer fenders for my utility trailer about a year agl. etrailer provided good measurements that I thought would fit the existing mounting brackets and I was happy to see that they were a perfect fit. I cleaned and painted the fenders before I mounted them and after a year they still look great. I am quite pleased with the purchase and the information provided by etrailer.

by:

they will be used on a custom made pickup flatbed and look perfect for the job

Ooo sounds fun! Send us some pics!

Just make sure you seal it. But it has been great.

Wow! etrailer has exceeded my expectations again. These fenders arrived in record time and were exactly what I needed to restore my old utility trailer that my father constructed in the 60's. After a rough fit I discovered that I needed to cut them to fit properly. No problem, with my jig saw and a metal blade they trimmed easily. Additional products were ordered for this restoration and all were perfect for the job.
Good job etrailer, I couldn't recommend you higher.

The most important considerations in a business are; Good products, Friendly and accommodating personnel. Excellent service and appropriate pricing. The products I have purchased from E-Trailer are top-notch, Packed well to prevent damage, unbelievable fast delivery and all at a price I can afford. From the description and specifications I had a hunch that these were exactly the fenders I needed for a 1929 Ford street-rod. The fit is excellent and the width is great for covering the extra large rear tires. I am ecstatic with the fit and will post on several nationwide car sites and hope your company benefits in sales. Now to find a matching fender for the front wheels.

Thank you for the GREAT service and products.

Replaced an existing fender that was too small. Easy to install. Painted with a cold galvanized paint and has held up very well for the year it has been installed.

by:

Have not put them on my trailer yet. But I do like them!!

by:

Great fit. Covers the wheels really well, makes the trailer look sharp. Although I did have to modifie the back sides a little bit to fit my trailer I would definitely order them again if anything happens to the ones I have on now. Also there not cheap and flimsy. These are good sturdy fenders.

by:

Was just as described &came in timely manner

by:

product is what was advertised and expected. Site is user friendly and everyone I have dealt with has been excellent.

by:

With some very slight modifications these fenders where a great starting point for a custom-built antique truck box.

by:

I'm using it for a wheel tub on a hot rod and it's exactly what I expected. Item is just as described.

by:

Great looking fender. An asset to any trailer.

by:

Just like everybody else in here, I’ve got nothing but the best things to say. The fender I purchased went on quickly and looks great. Thank much etrailer.

by:

Ordered this as a replacement for my enclosed. Fits great and looks great. Priced right too. Thanks so much!

by:

I was very satisfied with Quality, value and service. They worked exactly as expected for wheel tubs on our lastest build at Tony’s Hot Rod Shop.

by:

These are a replacement for the ones that got bent up in an accident.

by:

I am very pleased with these four fenders I ordered. I plan on using them on a 09 Ford Dually that has no bed. I will be bolting two each of the four fenders I bought together to make a Dually fender for each side. Great 16 gauge weight to them and very nicely made, especially for the price.

Working out great after 1 year

by:

Good price and fast delivery. Will used these as replacement wheel tubs in my project car. 90 degree edge was a little wavy but nothing a hammer and dolly can't fix in 2 minutes. Both fenders were straight and undamaged when delivered. No rust. Fenders are so close to being identical that I had to pry them apart after taking them out of the box. Good product and price.

by:

Great product and excellent shipping time. Just in time to replace the fender on my Tear Drop trailer that lost it's fender crossing the Topsy Grade road that follows the Klamath river from Cal into Oregon. Roughest damn road I've ever traversed.

by:

I was very pleased with this order . Everything worked and fit like it was suppose to . I do wish that the LED marker lites would have come with installation instructions though. I accidentally wired them wrong but figured it out everything is good now ...... Thank you.

by:

The fenders are for a 1944 m100 trailer to tow by an m38a1 willys jeep. We are building it from scratch and your fenders, with some modification will be perfect.

by:

Fenders arrived exactly as described. I used them in my flatbed. Sturdy construction. Great product. E-trailer is a great company to do business with.

by:

I am very pleased with the design of the fenders these are going to work for the plans I have. Outstanding service from etrailer with all of the orders I have placed. Thank you etrailer

by:

I was very disappointed with the fender. It was covered with rust within the first week of putting it on the trailer.

  • What Fenders do You Recommend for My 16 Inch Wheels?
For your ST235/80-16 tires like the Karrier Radial Tires # AM10248, I recommend the Single Axle Trailer Fender for Enclosed Trailers - Steel - 15" to 16" Wheels # HP46VR (for single axles) or the Tandem Axle Teardrop Trailer Fenders for Enclosed Trailers - 15" to 16" Wheels # HP64VR (for tandem axles). Both of these fenders are designed for 16 inch wheels. We do not carry single fenders that are less than 36 inches long or tandem-axle fenders that are less than 68 inches long that are confirmed...

  • Replacement Fender For Enclosed Pace Single Axle Trailer
Although none of the fenders we offer are an exact match to the size you mention, we have several that are pretty close. If you would like an aluminum diamond plate-type fender, the # CE17100ATB would be a good choice, measuring 32Lx10Wx16H. The steel fender you have already looked at, part # HP46VR would also be a close match, measuring 10-3/4Wx32Lx15-1/4H, which is pretty close to the measurements you provided.

  • Replacement fenders for 1995 Pace American Enclosed Trailer
When replacing your fenders you want to do your best to match the dimensions to what you currently have. Typically you won't find an exact match to the current fenders. Based on my research it looks like you have a tandem axle trailer with teardrop style fenders. I recommend one of the following for a replacement: -Tandem Axle Teardrop Trailer Fenders - Rounded Edges - Steel # HP64VR (68" long x 9" wide x 17" tall) -Tandem Axle Teardrop Trailer Fenders for Enclosed Trailers - Steel #...

  • Can You Use Trailer Fenders for Flatbed on a Vehicle
It's actually quite common to use trailer fenders on a vehicle when fabricating as no one really has the means to stamp new metal into a custom shape for this. The best way to size a fender is by wheel diameter but this is just general so if you plan to be using larger than normal tires then you'll need to consider this when selecting said fender. You'll also likely need to use some options that are on the wider size. The mounts you'll need to figure out yourself but most fab workers will...

  • Will Trailer Fenders for 16 Wheels Work for 285/75R16 Tires
You will not have any issues using a fender for 16" wheels like the Single Axle Trailer Fender # HP46VR or Tandem Axle Trailer Fenders # HP84VR with your 285/75R16 tires. Although your tires may be large, they are only 1/2" taller when compared to a more typical 235/85R16 tire. The bigger difference comes from the tire width, but that won't impact the fenders.

  • Installation of Steel Fender on 15 Inch Wheel
The Single Axle Trailer Fender - 90-Degree Back - Steel - 15" to 16" Wheels - Qty 1 # HP46VR will use Mounting Brackets for Trailer Fender - 13"/14"/15" Wheels - Galvanized Steel - Qty 2 # CE26098G-2 instead of a backing plate. If you want the backing plate you would instead use the Single Axle Trailer Fender with Backing - Cold Rolled Steel - 14" to 15" Wheels - Qty 1 # HP36VR if you have 15 inch wheels.

  • Trailer Fender Close to 36 x 10-3/4 x 18
We have one very close, but not that exact size; what we do have is a 36" long x 10-3/4" wide x 20" tall fender: - Single Axle Trailer Fender for Enclosed Trailers - Steel - 15" to 16" Wheels # HP46VR

  • Availability Of Round Style Trailer Fenders Between 35" and 24" Long And With Backing Plates
I do have a potential solution for you, but we do not carry a fender that will fit that description exactly. The closest we have is the # HP46VR. This is 36" long, 10-3/4" wide and 20" tall. This is the longest single axle fender that we carry. Everything else will be well under 35" long. For example we have the # HP48VR which is 32" long, 9" wide and 14" tall. We also have the backing plate # HP72FR. This is a 69" x 12" section of 18-gauge steel and would need to be cut to fit the fenders.

  • Recommended Brackets for etrailer Single Axle Trailer Fenders to Use With 15 Inch Wheels
For the etrailer Single Axle Trailer Fender - 16 Gauge Steel - 14" to 15" Wheels, # HP46VR, I called the manufacturer because we don't carry a bracket for that width of fender. The manufacturer says that for that wide a fender, they don't have a bracket and that you'd have to have it custom fabricated. The closest thing we have would be the Smith Galvanized Steel Mounting Brackets for Trailer Fender- 13, 14, and 15 Inch Wheels, # CE26098G-2. This may give you some ideas on what you would...

  • Availability of Large Diameter Trailer Rim Fender
The fenders we offer for the 16 inch diameter wheels like the part # HP46VR are not offered with backing plates, BUT the fender for 14-15 inch wheels part # HP36VR does have a backing plate. This fender is only 4 inches shorter and 1-3/4 inches narrower.

  • Fenders Needed for 16 Wheels on Escort Boat Trailer
The fenders we have available that are compatible with 16" wheels are parts # HP46VR and # HP46FR which are 16 gauge steel and can be either welded-on or bolted on. Keep in mind the fenders are not pre-drilled and the required mounting brackets for a bolt on installation are sold separately as part # CE26098G-2. Unfortunately we don't have any plastic fenders like what you were looking at that fit the larger 16" wheels.

The Aluminum Tread Plate, Jeep-Style, Single-Axle Trailer Fender, item # HP96VR is designed for a weld on application and putting screws and washers through the lip on the inside of the fender would most likely not last. If these fenders were to be installed on a steel trailer you would need to have an aluminum mounting bracket welded to the inside edge of the fenders that could be used to stiffen the fender and give additional mounting points. The etrailer Single-Axle Fenders, part # HP66VR, and part # HP46VR. The main difference between these two fenders is the width.
