Video Transcript for Polar Cam-Action Latch Kit Replacement Hasp Installation

Hi there, trailer owners. Today, we're going to be taking a look at Polar's Replacement Hasp for side doors. It's one inch in width by five and an eighth inch long. And from center to center on our bolting holes, it's about four and a quarter inch. It'll work with your existing one. I will say, on some of these older ones, this one here that was kind of rusty, so it was a little bit difficult to get it in there.

But if we clean up some of that rust, like I did, then it works pretty well. We also have replacement handles if you're having issues there. Now, we got our handle out of the way. We can get a better look at our hasp here, and you can see the opening. It should accommodate most side door handles, even if you're not repairing one from Polar. I'd definitely say check the measurements when you're considering replacement.

The hardware does not come included with our hasp so you will need to provide your own. If you've got an old rusty one, this is going to make a great replacement. You can see our old one here, the hardware on it. When I tried to take it out, the nut just spun and the carriage bolt was rusted in there, so I couldn't get the thing out. I ended up having to grind off the head of the bolt to get it out of there.

That's not very common but it does happen, especially on your older ones. That's why we recommend carriage bolt replacement. With our new one, though, it's going to be much smoother in operation than with our old one, and it definitely gives our trailer a nice facelift on how it used to look with all that old rusty hardware. The biggest reason why you want to keep your locks and latches in proper operation is to keep all the items in your trailer nice and secure. You may have some expensive items, might be going to a camp site, and this is just where you keep some gear, or maybe you are going to a show and you keep a lot of your items that you're displaying enclosed in your trailer here. You want to keep all those things safe until you're ready to display them. It's a solid steel construction and to help prevent it from rusting and looking like our old one here, it does have a zinc plating on it so it'll keep its nice finish.

We'll begin our installation by removing our old latch. We've already put new hardware in it, as our old hardware was all damaged, but our customer would like to have a nice, shiny new latch to match his new hardware. To take our old one out, we're just going to remove the nuts that's on the back side. The size of your nuts is going to vary depending upon the hardware that was installed on your trailer. Ours are just regular nuts on the back side and we're going to be using a 13 millimeter socket to remove them.Just pull the whole assembly out. We're then just going to clean up the area behind it. We're just using some alcohol on a rag to do so. If it's rusted real bad, you may need to use an abrasive cloth or sponge to get all that material off. Just trying to get a nice smooth surface. And now, this next part is going to be optional, but you can use some silicone, if we take some and put it around our bolt holes right here. When we go to put our hardware in, this is going to seal it up so that way moisture can't get inside, past the hardware. We'll now take our new latch. We're just going to slide our hardware through it, and then we're going to slide that on in to our existing holes. You can pick up carriage bolts, nuts, and washers at your local hardware store if you need some new hardware. I do highly recommend carriage bolts as these have square holes and they'll look nicer on the outside with the button heads. And then here on the back side, we're just going to reinstall our nuts and washers. We can just tighten our hardware back down. Now that we've got our new latch installed, we can go ahead and test it out. We're going to flip up the lock portion, bring our handle over, latch her shut and then bring the lock down. We can now put a padlock in there or we could just leave it how it is and our door is definitely staying shut. And if you'd like to replace your handle as well, we've got kits for those. We've already put some on the back, so we've got videos on how to put those on as well. This is what our old one used to look like. And here you can see our nice, shiny new one. And that completes our look at Polar's Replacement Hasp for side doors.

Everything I have gotten from etrailer has been great. The communication and customer service are excellent, and they ship very fast. This particular order shipped right away, however, it was sent USPS and took forever to process through their system.

by:

Really nice product, etrailer comes through every time. Great service, fast shipping. Thanks Paul and etrailer staff.

by:

This hasp is a replacement for the original double hasp that was vandalized and cut with a battery operated 3-1/2" grinder in less than a minute. Because it can be so easily cut, I would not buy this if I wasn't selling the trailer.

by:

Great quality and super fast shipping. Very satisfied!

by:

Worked great. Fast shipping!

by:

This hasp is meant to be secured using carriage bolts. Had to waller the holes a tad to use my existing bolts but I knew that when I purchased this hasp. Works as advertised.

by:

Perfect fit , no redrilling holes , quick replacement , will be ordering another one soon to replace the side door latch

by:

Great idea coming from eTrailer staff by suggesting the Blaylock locks. My trailers were repeatedly being broken into by snips used to cut the hasps. While the hasps were about 1/2 off on the center to center holes it was a quick fix. One trailer was stolen and they had to dismantle the side door hardware to get access. eTrailer you are my go to supplier.

by:

The mounting holes were off about 1/2 inch but a workaround was easy. Since then we purchased a security lock for both trailers. One trailer was stolen in January and just recovered. We will need new security locks.. If it is possible to get them keyed alike. Thank you. It is a pleasure to work with you!

by:

After being rob had to replace this cam door-locking latch on our enclosed trailer. I appreciate a website that is easy to find what you are looking for and the quick service. I don't think you can go wrong ordering from this company. I want to thank them for the excellent quality replacement part and fast delivery.

Great, No issues I am able to work without concerns of the security of my tools, thanks

by:

I bought these latches to replace my latches on a 48ft Pace cargo trailer. They are the same bolt to bolt dimension as they probably all are but these are nowhere near the heavy dutiness of the factory latches that are on the trailer these are more of a light duty cargo trailer like a 6x10' model but either way they are fine quality and I am going to put them on my trailer temporarily till I find the heavy duty ones!

by:

Latch was easy to install. New lock took a bit of wiggling to get it to fit but I got it figured out. Somebody broke into my trailer by cutting the latch, not the lock. New lock should prevent that from happening again.

by:

Perfect and exact fit for replacing my trailer hasp.

by:

This replaces the part on my 1985 Sundowner Sunlite just fine. The only difference is the holes are square and my original he's were round. I had to buy square headed carriage bolts that were a bit skinnier than my previous bolts. This is good, as it holds the bolt in place later if you need to remove it again. I replaced two other of the same latch a year ago, and unfortunately they already look old, so don't buy these thinking they are going to stay shines and new looking for very long. But it beats the totally rust covered ones that I replaced.

by:

Thanks works great

by:

The latch is well built but the swivel part is very tight and hard to rotate. It does rotate with effort but really should be free wheeling. I put it on the back door of my horse trailer. etrailer.com is good to work with, shipping is really quick and prices are very fair.

by:

We bought this replacement latch for our cargo trailer. The item was shipped quickly and it was as described on the website. Etrailer.com did a great job of updating us on the status of our order. Great company to work with!! Thanks!!

by:

This hasp is slightly smaller than the broken hasp I took off (trailers made in Douglas, GA). Consequently I haven't installed it yet and the reason for four stars.

by:

Basic Products for my older USA Horse Trailer. Knowledgeable staff, website a little cumbersome to get to some parts. Shipping Response time excellent, same day. Will be my first contact point for trailer part needs the next time.

by:

After vandals broke the factory-installed lock off of our trailer, we needed a replacement part. The photo matched the part, delivery was quick and installation was a breeze. Thank you!

by:

My latch arrived in great shape just as described it arrived in great time I was very pleased at the speed in which it shiped and arrived .. I was also very pleased with your invintory of parts and the way your sit is made it very easy to navigate I will definately shop here for all my trailer repair needs thank you very much!!!!

by:

The easiest, most courteous, prompt people to do business with. I have already told anyone that would listen how accommodating etrailer is. I was pleased my shipping was free but couldn’t believe it when they emailed me and told me they upgraded my delivery with no additional charges. I had everything delivered in one box in 3 days. All parts were exactly what I wanted and worked perfectly.

by:

Worked exactly as needed, might need to adjust existing mounting holes if used as a replacement. ordered 1st set to assure they'd work, only complaint is additional hasps now on back order, otherwise a 5 star review for product and etrailers excellent customer service.

The latch assembly works great. We are using it to lock two rear trailer doors together. It holds securely.

  • Availability of Strong Theft-Proof Latch for Recently Vandalized Enclosed Cargo Trailer
We do offer a replacement door latch, part # 158-101. If you used the Blaylock Door Lock for Enclosed Trailers, part # BLDL-80 in conjunction with the latch, you would certainly provide additional theft deterrence. The lock will not turn away the most determined thief, but will likely make them move on to an easier target. You would need to replace your existing damaged keeper latch with the 158-101. Once installed, the lock would install over the keeper latch and protect it. We unfortunately...

  • How Do Carriage Bolts that Hold Trailer Latch Hasps Tighten to Trailer Door
It's probably a carriage bolt which has a square shoulder that fits into a square hole in the latch system which prevents it from spinning. That's why there isn't a way to attach a wrench to the top of the bolt. You are going to have to look for the other end of the bolt that is going to have a nut which can be loosened.

  • Replacement Handle Latch for Cam-Door Lock on 2006 Interstate Load Runner
I checked the Interstate Trailer website for details on the cam door locks they used on your 2006 Load Runner but no specifics are provided. However, I did check their replacement parts to see what they offer and we do have a replacement cam lock hasp (handle catch) that is quite similar to theirs, our part number # 158-101 that you referenced. The mounting hole centers are 4-1/4-inches apart on center and it accepts a 1-1/4-inch wide handle. We also have part # 158-102. This hasp has...

  • 2001 Haulmark Replacement Hasp
The biggest Hasp we carry is the Replacement Hasp for Polar Cam-Action Latch Kits - 1" Wide - Zinc-Plated Steel # 158-101 which has a 4-1/4" measurement from center to center of the bolt holes. Since the length of the hasp is 5-1/8" the body of it should cover the holes so no one can see them. I recommend filling the old holes with some silicone caulk # LT37467 and also putting some in the new holes to prevent water damage.

  • Replacement Handle Latch for a Cam-Door Trailer Door Lock
It sounds like you are looking for a handle latch for your cam-door lock like part # 383200. For that you would want the part # 158-101. Only issue you may have is that the mounting holes for this are 4-1/4 inches apart. You may have to relocate the latch either to the left or to the right of your current holes.

  • Replacement Trailer Door Latch for a 1-1/2 Inch Wide Handle
I do have options for you but the Replacement Handle Latch for Cam-Door Lock part # 158-102 is designed to be used with the Lock Side-Door Bar Lock Assembly part # 305736 which has a handle that measures to be 1-1/4" wide therefore would not be the hasp I recommend for you. Instead, I recommend using the Replacement Hasp for Polar Cam-Action Latch Kits part # 158-101 which can accommodate handles up to 1-11/16" wide. If you would like to replace the entire cam lock system then I have...

The best thing to do to determine if this is the correct hasp for your 2000 Haulmark is to measure. I have linked an image with the measurements of the Polar Hasp # 158-101 to this page for your convenience. The center on center mounting holes are 4-1/4 inches apart and the width of the entire hasp will be 1 inch. If your hasp's mounting holes are 3-3/4 inches apart then you will want the # PLR258-101.
