I used this to make a door locking mechanism for the firebox door for my wood-fired maple syrup evaporator.

Was easy to use/set up. BNought some black pip, grinded off the paint, welded some bits, and bam! Best door locking/opening mechanism ever. Just like the professional units that cost $1000s

  • How to Attach Pipe to Cam-Action Lockable Door Latch Kit
The Cam-Action Lockable Door Latch Kit for Large Enclosed Trailers # PLR458-018 you referenced will need a schedule 40 3/4" steel pipe to be welded on to the cam ends as well as the handle. Pipe Schedule is the term used to describe the thickness of a pipe. You should be able to go to your local hardware store and pick up some 3/4" steel pipe. I do recommend that a qualified welder weld everything if you are not comfortable doing it yourself. The rest of the kit will bolt to the door,...

  • Uninstalling Old Cam-Action Locking System on Trailer
Sorry to hear about your trailer getting broken into. From the picture that you sent it looks like your problem is that your setup is a bit rusted. I recommend using the UltraLube Biobased Spray Lubricant and Penetrant to help loosen up the rusted bolts. You may want to try to spray some of the UltraLube into the bolt hole as you are loosening the bolt, and definitely after the bolt is removed. This should enable to you install your ned Cam-Action Kit, like part # PLR458-018. You may also...

  • Trailer Cam Door Handle that Uses Heavier Pipe than Stock System
I actually have a better solution for you than using # 3057-55. You could instead use # PLR458-018 and then supply your own pipe. That way you can get as heavy as a pipe that the system will allow. Or a solid bar for that matter. The pipes on the pre-fab systems such as # 3057-55 are going to be the same as what you have now. On # 3057-55 the bolt holes at the hinges are spaced 3-1/4 inches apart on center. And the distance from the bottom hole on the bottom hinge to the top hole on the...

  • Can Cam-Action Lockable Door Latch Kit # PLR458-018 Be Used without Pipe
You have to have a 3/4 inch pipe welded to the part # PLR458-018 for this system to work. Without a pipe it just won't work.

  • Cam Style Trailer Door Latch Recommendation For Limited Clearance Area for Brackets
The big difference between the Cam Door Latch # PLR458-018 and the # PLR658-002 is the robustness of the pipe mount on the handle side. The # PLR658-002 is more for heavy duty applications and comes with bushings for the pipe to mount in. This requires a 1-5/16 inch diameter pipe and the other requires 3/4 inch diameter. That said, since you said you only have a space of 2-7/16 inches for the bottom bracket to fit you'd actually want the part # PLR258-002 instead as it has a smaller sized...

  • How to Pick Out Carriage Bolts for Installing Cam-Action Latch Kit for Large Enclosed Trailers
You will want to use 5/16 inch carriage bolts and matching washers and nuts to install the # PLR458-018 that you referenced. Your local hardware store would be where you would need to go to find them. You will want to pick bolts based on the thickness of your trailer wall.

  • Recommended Hardware for Converting Ramp Door Trailer to Side Opening
On your 5x10 enclosed trailer, the side swing door using T-Strap Hinge for Side and Rear Trailer Doors - 16" Long - Stainless Steel # PLR3416-SS is not rated for any specific size or weight. It is a great option as the length will help and then you will just need to determine how many are needed to support the weight. On the other end I recommend using a the Cam-Action Lockable Door Latch Kit for Large Enclosed Trailers - 2 Point - Zinc-Plated Steel # PLR458-018.

  • How are Spacers Used When Installing Cam-Action Lockable Door Latch Kit # PLR458-018
I attached a picture that shows the spacers lined up on the cam door latch # PLR458-018 to show you where they install. They basically install in between the top and bottom bar clamps and the latch system on top. This is designed to prevent the bar from sliding down when it's not latched. I've used these before and they have a tendency to slip down if they don't have the spacers holding them in place.
