Video Transcript for Flint Hill Goods Trailer Coupler Latch Lock Review

What's up everybody, it's AJ with etrailer.com Today, we'll be checking out the Flint Hill Goods Latch Coupler Lock. It's gonna be 3 1/4 inch in length and an inch and a quarter diameter of a pin. So what you do is you put this in your latch, so that it can't be pushed up whether your trailer is just sitting on the parking lot like this or hooked up to your ball mount, it's gonna keep it locked up, lets check it out. Looking at the latch lock, it's gonna be a carbon steel construction with a black e-coating on the outside, so it's gonna hold up a little bit better than a black powder coat standardly does. Another thing is hopefully leaving it all in your latch out in the elements, that's what you want, to be able to hold up to the rain and snow and ice and all that and not deteriorate or rust or corrode and that e-coat gonna help it from doing that. Seeing how it works you turn the key and that's what unthreads the lock.

So it does take a couple turns to get it unlocked. So it's not like a quick lock but it doesn't take that much time either. You see, as I do that, it slowly unthreads. and then you can slide this out, this portion here and then the pin out that way. So very easy to put in there and take out whenever you need to just takes a little bit of time with threading that lock in, which actually helps you as a theft-deter and a lock.

It's gonna be harder to pick that because of that style. One thing I do wanna point out is that there is not a cover on it, so the lock core is kind of exposed. So that's something to be careful of. You don't want dirt, dust, or debris get there in that key slot and causing you issues when you go to use it to lock it or unlock it. As easy as it was to take off, it's very easy to put it right back on.

Just make sure you line up that pin with a pin hole then bring this portion back over and you start threading it in just like before just make sure you line up that pin with the hole here at the end of this portion. So that make sure it locks up. Now, I will say that this works with most coupler latches but some of 'em that doesn't work with is like a break-actuator-coupler. So then you're gonna have that hole where the pin runs through the center of the coupler instead of the outside. So this one's not gonna be long enough for that to work but we do have other locks that are made just for those instances, whether it has a two inch ball or two and five, six inch ball, you can get those options on our website to lock one of those couplers up.

Now there's also another one. There's an adjustable one too. So it's gonna be a longer pin. It has notches on it, so you can kind of fit it to whatever size coupler you're putting it on. That way you get the most secure lock whether it's close to the latch and locked up you can do that with that. Overall, I think this is a nice and easy fix and a good lock to put on your latch just to keep people from messing when you're not around whether you leave your trailer parked or it's on your vehicle with this on a ball-mount and latched down and this can't be removed from that ball mount. So as long as this is locked to the ball mount and you got a hitch lock in your ball mount. Then nobody's messing with any of your stuff. They're gonna take a look at that and go check out another trailer that doesn't have it all locked up. So it works as a really good theft-deter all in all. Well, I think that does it. Thanks for hanging out. Hope this helps..

  • Can Multiple Flint Hill Goods Trailer Coupler Latch Locks Be Ordered with the Same Key
I do have an option for your but the Flint Hill Goods Trailer Coupler Latch Lock part # FHG33VR does not have a keyed alike option. I actually recommend going with a slightly different style of lock as the narrow inside span of this lock actually does not work well for a lot of couplers. A pin style, the etrailer Surge Brake Coupler Lock part # e98887 specifically, is far more universal and has a keyed alike option. This is what I recommend using for multiple trailers.
