Recommended Break Away System for Triple Axle 40 Foot Gooseneck
Question:
I have 40ft goose neck with triple 10k axles with 12-1/4 x 3-1/2 electric brakes. Do I need to size my break-a-way battery amp hour rating for these large brake/axle assemblies? Currently it has been using a 10Ah 12 volt?

Expert Reply:
The regulations state that the when the breakaway pin is pulled, the brakes should be able to hold the trailer for no less than 15 minutes. A 10A system wouldn't be sufficient for a triple-axle trailer as large as your, the Cargo Towing Solutions # HBA-EBA 17A system you'd looked at is exactly what I'd recommend using.
I've linked to a product description video featuring the # HBA-EBA break away kit.
