Video Transcript for DeeMaxx Stainless Steel Drive-In Grease Cap Review

Hey, everyone. Ryan here at etrailer. Today we're gonna be checking out the DeeMaxx Stainless Grease Cap and Plug. So when it comes to these small trailer parts, you know, a lot of times, they almost just become a maintenance item. Sometimes they come off, or they just get damaged, whatever the case may be, and it's a good idea to keep these in good condition. Especially it seems like what happens a lot, you know, if someone goes to service the trailer or whatever, and they struggle getting these off and put big dents in them, and things like that.

So that's where this is going to come into play. These are a really common size, and work with a lot of different trailers. You know, from axles, you know, this is, generally speaking, 3,500 pounds and under. The axle in this trailer today, I believe, is 2200 pounds. So there's a big swing there.

So really, as long as the inner diameter of your hub is two inches, you should have no problem using these. But I actually have an extra one on hand. So we'll take a look at that and give you a couple measurements. That way, you can find out for sure. Taking a look at this extra cap, you know, the exact measurements from here to here are gonna be 1.98 of an inch.

The overall height of it, it's gonna be 1.4. And in case, if you ever need to replace the cap or anything like that, this opening is going to be 1.18. With that said, if you come to figure out that these are gonna be too small for your trailer, there are some larger ones available as well, so feel free to check that out. But the main thing that's really gonna separate these from a lot of the other ones on the market is the fact that they're stainless. And the actual plug is a silicone rubber material, as opposed to some of the other caps, just your standard ones.

A lot of these are just coated to help prevent rust and stuff, and the plugs are just a regular rubber. And they seem to dry dry out a little bit faster and stuff. Especially for those of you that find yourself in harsh environments, you know, boat trailers. Especially if you're in salt water, having a setup like this, you'll potentially get, you know, in theory, more life out of it, right Because of the material. You know, is it going to stay perfect forever and ever I doubt it. I could be wrong, but you know, it's almost certain you'll get more life out of this, especially the plugs, over the standard type. Whenever you are replacing these and you have stuff apart. it's definitely a good time to kind of go a step further and inspect everything inside. Make sure nothing's contaminated and everything's in good working condition. You know, if you find yourself needing to replace something or just want to kind of start fresh, you can find all these different types of parts right here at etrailer. It'd just be a good time to do that while while you're in there. But aside from that, at the end of the day, a nice setup. You know, it's definitely gonna be a good replacement and upgrade in most situations. So you really can't go wrong. And one thing a lot of people wonder is how to get the old caps off What's the best trick to put the new ones on And so on and so forth. So why don't we go ahead, get the one that was on there removed, and I'll show you how to get this one installed. To get the old caps removed. You know, there's a couple of different ways you can do it, and it kind of is just gonna depend on your setup, really. So what some people do is get the tire off the ground there. And you can take a hammer, and kind of just tap it in an outward motion like that, and you can spin the tire, and keep tapping it until you get it to pop off. You know, I've done that in the past. With this setup though, these current ones are kind of tapered and somewhat smaller. You don't have a whole lot of offset here on my wheel. And so that'd be pretty tricky to do. So what I'm gonna do is just take out a chisel here. And just very carefully, when you do this, you don't wanna drive it into the hub or anything, you know. So just take your time. You can kind of go around it if you need to. And get it loosened up here. A lot of times, you can just kind of, almost kind of rotate it, so it pops off. To drive the new one into the hub. It seems like people have kind of their own techniques. My advice would be what you wanna avoid doing is just lining this up and hitting the cap with the hammer. 'Cause more than likely you'll probably put a dent in it, won't get it on there perfectly straight, and just kind of fight it. So one thing you can do is take a block of wood, you know, a piece of two by four or something, hold it against here and tap that, and that'll kind of evenly distribute the force, making this a little bit easier to drive in. Or what I have is a tool here, which I'm gonna use since I have it. I know a lot of you won't, that's why I suggested that two by four. But if you do this a lot or would rather use this, you can always pick up this style of tool at etrailer. But with this, it makes it super easy. You know, you don't damage a cap or anything. The trick is to get it lined up straight as you can. And drive it into place there. If you end up having any more of these to do, you can use that same technique to get those installed. And with that done, that'll finish up our look at of the DeeMaxx Stainless Grease Caps and Plugs.

I went out to our warehouse and got 1.998 inches for the outer diameter. Can you please provide a picture of your measurement? Please be sure to use the longer jaws to measure the outer diameter of the grease caps; being sure to measure above the flange. I will also need you to provide a picture of your measurement of the hubs that you are installing these caps on. Please be sure to use the shorter interior dimension jaws for this measurement. It would also be helpful to know whether the cap is fitting too loose or just tight when installing. If it is slightly too tight, all you need to do is hammer it in. If it is too loose, however, you will definitely need to get a bigger size.

Product is stated as rust resistant stainless steel. The only rust resistant stainless is non-magnetic. These items are very magnetic.
