Video Transcript for Review of TruRyde Trailer Bearings Races Seals Caps - Grease Cap - TRU46FR

Hello everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a look at this trailer hub grease cap for the EZ Lube axles, and this one is without the rubber plug in it. Now, this grease cap is designed to fit the EZ Lube and Easy Grease trailer hubs that have a 2.72 inner diameter. Now, this one comes without the rubber plug, and actually, it does require a rubber plug on here, that plug we do sell separately on our website, it's part number DC-RP, and it is listed on this product page as a related product. Now, I happen to pull that plug just to show you what this does. But basically, what this does, this grease cap is for the EZ Lube and Easy Grease axles, which are axles that have a grease zerk fitting on the end of the spindle that allow you to pump grease into the spindle.

And I just wanna pop up an insert, there's a picture of what that spindle looks like, and if you look on the end, you'll see that grease zerk fitting. So when this cap is installed on your hub over that spindle, this will allow you to, when you pop out this rubber cover right here, that allows you to put your grease gun onto that zerk fitting, pump grease into that spindle, and then when you're done, just put your plug back in there, so you don't have to completely remove the whole hub and drum assembly to lubricate your wheel bearings. Now, as I mentioned, this rubber plug is not included with this cap, we do sell it separately. Now, the cap itself, I'm gonna pop this rubber plug out, but the cap itself is a 22-Gauge zinc-coated steel construction. Now, it is a drive-in installation.

Basically, when you go to install this into your hub, you put this onto the hub and then you can tap it in place by using a piece of wood over the cap, so you don't damage the cap, and then tap it all the way around evenly, so it'll go into place. Or if you want, we also sell a tool called a driver tool, and it's shaped in the same size of this cap, and it'll go over this and go rest on this ledge, and then you just tap on that metal driver tool, and it'll equally push this cap into there without any damage to the cap. Again, that tool is sold separately, it's part number 290-993. Few specs again, we mentioned the outer diameter, edge to edge, it's gonna be 2.72 inches, and this is for a quantity of one cap. But that should do it for the review of this trailer hub grease cap for the EZ Lube axle without the rubber plug..

This order was shipped all together in one box with NO packing material. Eight of the twenty dust caps were damaged beyond repair because of poor shipping practices, and this is not the first time. Very frustrating

I have a 25 ft flt bed goose neck that I use to carry hay on. Last year (2022) I had a blow out when the trailer was loaded. Fortunately, the service guy that changed my tire was able to jack up the trailer but it was touch and go. I bought a Trailer Aide Plus but with its plastic co truction and a trailer loaded to 15,000 pounds gross trailer weight, I eas concerned. The aluminum Blaylock EZ jack is a better choice for my purposes.

  • Comparing 21-43-1 and rg04-120 Grease Caps
The # TRU46FR and the # rg04-120 are both drive-in style grease caps with a 2.72" outer diameter. However, the # rg04-120 comes with 2 grease caps and also includes the plugs. The # 21-43-1 is a single grease cap and the rubber plug # DC-RP is not included.

  • How to Pick Out a Grease Cap for a Dexter 8k Axle
You would need to measure the inside diameter of the hub opening to determine which cap size is needed. You would want to choose a cap whose outside diameter matches the inside diameter of the hub. Some of the most common sizes are 1.980 inch, 1.986 inch, 2.441 inch and 2.717 inch. As you can see the sizes can differ by very small amounts. To measure accurately you may want to get a dial caliper so that you can be confident you are getting the correct size for your hub.
