These Titan Chain diamond-pattern chains are great winter weather chains. If you live in an area where you're likely to get periodic snow and ice, these chains are perfect because they're durable and easy to mount. And they're lightweight and compact, so they store in your vehicle nicely too.

These chains are among the easiest and fastest to install because they have built-in tensioners that you can just pull taut to adjust the fit. These tensioners allow the chains to fit your tires, no matter the profile or wear pattern. And because the tensioners are built-in, you never have to worry about losing them like you might with other chains on the market.

Class S Designation

SAE Class S tire chains are designed for use on passenger vehicles with restricted wheel-well clearance. Most newer cars, vans, and small trucks - especially those with large aftermarket tires - will require Class S chains. If you're unsure about the class of your vehicle, consult your vehicle's user manual.

SAE Class S Clearance Diagram

These chains will fit your tires provided there is both:

  • A - a minimum of 1.46" (37 mm) between the top of the tire tread and the wheel well
  • B - at least 0.59" (15 mm) between the tire's sidewall and the vehicle

Confirming Your Fit

If you know your tire size, you may think you won't need to test fit your new chains. But there are a lot of variables that can affect whether chains will fit your specific tires, including your tire type, the amount of air pressure in the tire, the amount of tread wear, and the tire manufacturer. You'll also need to know how much clearance is in your wheel well, which you can determine by measuring from your tire tread to the sidewall of the wheel well.

We recommend that you order chains as early in the season as possible to give yourself plenty of time to test fit the chains and reorder if needed. This way, you won't be stuck out in the cold later with snow chains that don't fit.

You can test fit these chains in your garage or driveway, but you'll want to wait until there's snow on the ground to actually drive with them. Likewise, if you're out in the snow and come across bare pavement, you'll want to pull over and remove the chains. These chains can cause damage to the bare pavement, your garage floor, or your vehicle if they break from the wear of riding on a harsh surface.

Installing Tire Chains

Installing these chains is incredibly simple.

Lay chains on the ground to get all the tangles out

1. Lay out the chains on the ground to make sure there are no twists or kinks.

Slide chains behind the tire

2. Spread the chain around the back of the tire.

Make connections behind the tire

3. Connect the ends of the cable, which will sit behind the tire.

Attach green hook to yellow side chains

4. Around front, connect the 2 ends of the yellow side chain using the green hook at the top of the tire.

Feed tensioner through clips

5. At the bottom of the tire, feed the silver tensioning chain through the red channel bracket and pull it taut. Then run the tensioner through as many red clips along the side chain as you can, leaving room to still be able to stretch the hook across the tire.

Recheck tension

6. Attach the hook to the side chain directly across from the last clip you ran the tensioner through. The hook should face away from your tire. Pull your vehicle forward 2-3 vehicle lengths and recheck the tension.

How to Choose Snow Chains for Your Vehicle

To choose the right snow chain, you must match your tire size. Those measurements can be found on the side of your tire, as shown below.

Tire size on sidewall

185/60-15

  1. (185) - indicates tire width in millimeters
  2. (60) - gives you the aspect ratio (sidewall height as percentage of width)
  3. (15) - denotes the diameter of the wheel rim in inches

I have a 2018 Suburban Premier with the 22” wheels and 285/45R22 tires. I purchased two sets of these chains (four chains in all) for a trip to Mammoth California at the beginning of March 2023 during a record snow season. I was really glad that I had them as I had them all four wheels for most of a week, taking them off and putting them on at least 5 times. Part of the time I had them on I was pulling a 6x12 UHaul trailer. These chains worked flawlessly and provided a huge amount of extra traction on top of my Michelin Defender LTS M/S tires. I was a bit concerned that using the chains may cause some damage to may alloy wheels, but that did not happen. If you put them on correctly, the wheels don’t get damaged at all. The etrailer videos that show how to put the chains on accurately portray the ease of doing that. Even after a week of pretty constant use, the chains don’t show much wear at all. I would absolutely buy these again.

A year into ownership, I still have the chains and carry them with me whenever I think I may encounter conditions where they will be needed. The still look like new are easy to pack for a trip with the nice case that comes with them.

2019 Ram 1500

This is actually my second set of these chains, my first set loosened up quite a bit and weren't very stable at speeds over 20 MPH. Overall, fantastic set! I know these aren't supposed to last a lifetime by any means, but still got about 2 seasons of mountain/snow wear and use with them. Price is right, install is easy once you know and understand how to put them on. Pro Tip- I went to staples and got the instruction sheet laminated, it helped tremendously, especially when you need to do a quick reference on the side of a road.

2019 Ram 1500

Waited a year to write this review. These chains are amazing!!!! I have a 2WD truck and love my winter sports (I know I know). Anyways, just got back from a week in Mammoth Lakes CA, Mammoth is currently experiencing some of the most snow for the season that they've had for awhile. These chains stayed on my truck for all 5 days there. Through powder, packed snow, ice, etc. These chains DELIVERED!!!!!!!! I am so happy with them that my friends who have 4wd that were on the trip asked about them and are ordering the same ones for their trucks as well! I couldn't be more happy with the purchase.

2020 Chevy Silverado Trail Boss. Chains only fit on rear tires(275/65r18). Worked excellent. Easy to install. No movement of chains while driving (under 25 mph). Happy with my purchase. I wish I could fit chains on front tires!

Chevrolet Tahoe

Fortunately and unfortunately, I have not had to use them. I've taken them with me on trips to Reno, NV via the 395, but I didn't have to stop to install them. Going to Lake Tahoe next month...we'll see!

by:
2004 Dodge Ram Pickup

Only used them a couple of times in my 3/4 ton pickup. Once with an empty bed and once with a 1400lb camper in the bed. They did not break, so that's good. For frequent use, I'd go with a heavier chain.

Fiddly to get on, but all chains I've ever used have been.

I like the carry case--it's just the right size to be easy to stow the chains and no bigger. Quality construction.

We recently had 8” of snow and single digit temps. My neighbor has these chains, his was one of the few vehicles moving in our neighborhood. I promptly ordered a set. Well made, easy to install and performs.

eTrailer made it easy to figure out which chains were the right fit for my truck and my car. I've used them on both vehicles numerous times and have been very happy. They are easy to put on and take off and gave me the added traction I need to negotiate the very steep hill I live on.

by:

Unique way of installing the chains. I am used to draping and hooking. The chains fit nice and come in a handy storage bag I can keep in the truck. Perfect for emergencies.

2017 Ford F-150

Installed on a 2017 F150 with 275/55/R20 wheels. These chains were very easy to install and watching the installation videos were very helpful. The carry case is perfect and is very compact so it doesn't take up much room in your truck cab and can fit nicely under the rear seat. It comes with a replacement chain link hitch so in case one breaks you have a backup. It would be nice to have two thought. Either way, I look forward to my trip to Boone NC winter and if I have to use the chains, I will be back to write a second review on how they worked out.

by:

I can put these on in under 2 minutes per tire without having to drive the vehicle over the chains. Also a very nice carrying package. I purchased these as backup in the event of slippery conditions when hauling a 24' ice house of the lake. Have not had to use on the ice yet, but I did practice putting them on the tire to avoid learning curve on ice.

First .... customer service is great. I needed the chains for a trip to Northern MN. , planned on leaving on Saturday ... they were ordered on Wednesday with 2 day service. The chains arrived the next day around 1300 hrs., were well packaged, and the case for the chains is well made. Now the fun part installation. I have "baby mud" tires ... the chains don't easily slide over the surface ... not a big deal, it just takes a little longer to center the chains. However, the next issue started to annoy me. The tension chain was too long. Was I centered properly? I adjusted chain again ... still too loose. Back to the video. You can pickup some of the slack by the link that attaches to the green hook. Ok ... better, but still too loose. Back to the product reviews. I was not alone .... the fix (per mfg) was simple and now obvious. Loop the tension chain over the yellow chain once (you're simulating another red hoop) and the attach the tension chain. Readjust after driving a short distance. I'm sure they will perform well ... the test willl be snow covered looging roads. The one thing I suggest is to put them on in good conditions .... better to resolves any issues in a nice enviroment.

I haven’t actually used them yet in the snow, but have tried them on the wheels to ensure fit. They have served the purpose of knowing I have them in the SUV in case I need them, so for that, I give them a 5.

Purchased these chains for annual winter trips into the Appalachian mountains. Finally had the chance to use them. Initially took me a moment to get on the first tire mittens and -17degrees with 20mph winds and hadn’t attempted since original purchase. Thereafter relatively simple. Made all the difference with ability to move around town safely. Highly recommend

2016 toyota Tundra

William S. was very helpful & knowledgeable of the products I was interested in.

I received them in a timely manner. I installed them with little difficulty (on all four wheels) of my 2016 Toyota tundra and took it for a test drive on hard packed snow & ice covered roads in our neighborhood which includes some very steep hills. They worked great. Traction & control uphill & down was excellent. There was no interference to full lock turns in front even though I had oversized tires 285/75 R 18's.

by:

They are just as posted. It was super easy to get them on the tire, I do not have snow to test them while driving. They came quickly, were packed well and arrived in nice little carry cases.

by:

Got into some deep snow in the mountains on a narrow, icy forest service road and accidentally slid my truck off the road and into a ditch while trying to turn around. After shoveling and installing these chains on all four tires, I drove back onto the road in 4High and got turned around with no issues. No problems driving with them the rest of the day as the snow storm continued. Moral of the story- don’t be dumb and put chains on before things get bad.

These tire chains fit the tire and rim well once everything was properly tightened. Picture directions for installation are easy to follow (be sure to practice once in your driveway when weather is good). I personally prefer the diamond pattern because you always have chains contacting the ground. All of that plus no issues so far I am giving 5 stars, but note I have not used these on compact ice on paved roads; only for snow and ice on gravel/dirt roads.

2022 Ford F-150

I haven't needed to use them yet but the etrailer online service was great. I got more useful information from etrailer than I did from 4 Ford Dealerships. The Ford website and online owner's manual had woefully inadequate information. Ford Customer Service said information on snow chains had been sent to all authorized Ford Service Technicians. None of the four dealers I contacted had any information. One dealership suggested I look at [online] posts. What a joke. Thank you etrailer for having readily accessible information and someone I could talk to. Thanks for nothing Ford.

I cannot recommend you go against anything noted in your truck's owner's manual but we do have tire chains, including low-profile S-Class cables types, that fit your tire size. • Snow Chain Recommendation for a 2015 Chevy Silverado 1500 with 275/55R20
For your 2015 Chevy Silverado 1500 with 275/55R20 tires the Titan chains part # TC2327 have been confirmed as a fit and would work well. These chains are priced great, are pretty easy to install (especially for the price), and will provide you with great traction. • Does Titan Chain Make A Heavy Duty Diamond Chain For a 265/70-18 Tire On a Ford F-350?
Currently the Titan Chain Alloy Snow Tire Chains # TC2327 are the only diamond chains offered by Titan for your 265/70-18 tire. They do not offer a HD Diamond like the # TC2533 you use with the 275/55-20 and 275/70-18 on your other vehicles. Titan does offer a Heavy Duty Ladder Pattern Chain # TC2228SCAM which will fit your 265/70-18 tire. These have cam adjusters and I recommend using the Titan Chain Multi-Arm Rubber Tire Chain Adjuster # TCMA3 with them.
