What Tires Should Snow Chains be Used on 2017 Ford F-150 With 275/65R18 Tires
Question:
I have a 2017 Ford F-150 Supercrew 4x4. My question is, in snowy conditions, should I be using the 4x4 instead of 2wd. Also, my tire size is 275/65R18. Should I be using chains on all 4 tires or just the rear? I have been reading online articles and some say to use them on all 4 tires and others say just the rear, so now Im thoroughly confused. I cant seem to find any information from Ford directly with recommendations.

To answer your first question, yes, you should use 4WD in snowy conditions. In regards to snow chains, I took a look at an online version of the owner's manual for a 2017 Ford F-150 and on page 369 it states, "Do not install chains on the front tires as this may interfere with suspension components" so you will want to put chains on the rear wheels only. It also states chains are "safe for use on your vehicle with the following tires: 245/70R17, LT245/70R17, 265/70R17 and 265/60R18" and "You should install snow cables or chains that have been rated as SAE Class S."
Since there are some places you have to use snow chains no matter what, even though your manual doesn't state your tire size, it is a very good idea to still have them on hand. For Class S chains on your '17 F-150 with 275/65R18 tires I highly recommend the Titan Chain Alloy Snow Tire Chains # TC2327 because they are both very effective and simple to install. These chains are made from manganese nickel alloy steel to ensure they are not only highly durable but also resistant to any type of corrosion.
I have added a link to a video review of these snow tire chains on a F-150 for you to check out which shows them being installed so you can see how easy the process is.
