Recommended Snow Tire Chains for a 2016 GMC Sierra 1500 with 275/55-20 Tires

Question:

Hi I live in Southern California and will be vacationing in big bear for next weekend and right now the roads are requiring chains. I already own snow cables but people tell me I should get chains instead. I own a 2016 GMC Sierra Denali 2wd with 275/55r20 tires. My concern with chains is the damage it might do to the rim... I have never driven in the snow before so I don’t have any idea if my cables will do the job or not. In your opinion should I get chains? If so witch ones are least likely to mess up my rims

If you will be traveling through any sort of moderate to heavy snow then you will absolutely want to use tire chains over tire cables. If you will be traveling through an area that requires snow chains then odds are the amount of snow will be more on the side of moderate to heavy. The tire cable options are okay for light snow but they are more or less designed for emergencies. Also, an actual tire chain rather than cable may be required in certain areas therefore is a possibility that local authorities will not let you pass with just cables.

For your 2016 GMC Sierra 1500 with 275/55-20 tires, I recommend the Titan Chain Alloy Snow Tire Chains part # TC2327. The part of the chains that are closest to the wheel have a coating so you should not have any issues with damage. I took a look at the reviews for the chains and there were no mentions of damage to the wheels either. The Titan Chain Alloy Snow Tire Chains have a diamond shaped pattern so they will provide greater traction and offer better ride quality than the conventional ladder type chains. There will be a night and day difference between these chains and the cables you have now in regards to performance.

I have attached a review video for you.
