Hi, everyone, Aidan here with etrailer. Today, we're gonna be taking a look at the Yakima BaseClip Fit Kit for your Yakima BaseLine FX Roof Rack Kits. Now, this is gonna be the rubber pad and the clamps that actually hold the whole roof rack system in place and make it a custom fit for your various different vehicles. Now, that being said, there's tons of different kits out there on our website for different vehicles, all of those pads are gonna be molded somewhat differently to adapt to different roof shapes, so do plug in your vehicle information into our fit guide and find the right fit kit for you and your vehicle, but it's gonna be a look at the overall system, how it works, and how it functions with the roof rack. So the main two parts of this are gonna be the rubber pad and the clamp, but let's talk about that rubber pad first. It's gonna be custom molded to your vehicle, so you can see really well right here on this lip, it forms around that ridge on the roof and fits snugly into place there to make sure that nothing is moving around and it's fit custom to that area.
Now, the base of that fit kit is what actually clips into the tower here and serves as the connection point between the crossbar roof rack system and your vehicle. That rubber base to it is going to give you the maximum protection and make sure that you're not scratching or scuffing any paint on your roof, and it keeps things nice and sealed up. Now, the stainless steel clip is what also helps to secure it to our roof, that's gonna be the second main component. It's a stainless steel construction and a black powder coat finish, the finish helps it match the whole roof rack system, but it all helps it resists rust and corrosion. Now, the inside of those clips are gonna have a rubber padding, again, so there's no metal on metal contact with our paint or anything, and then you can see here, it's custom fit, hooking inside our door jam, and whenever I close the door, it'll just fit right around there, making sure that it's a nice custom fit.
It attaches up inside the tower right up through here, and it just tightens down, hooking into a slotted opening hole, and then that's what gets it all secured and what helps it join into the tower system. These fit kits come in pairs, one for the passenger's side and one for the driver's side. Now, the reason they do that is because depending on your vehicle, you're probably gonna have a different fit kit for the front and rear. Yakima does a lot of research and development into making sure it's a custom fit for the vehicle, and the one we have it on here today, the Honda Civic, is a perfect example. You can even visually see how much longer the clamp at the back is compared to this clamp up at the front.
So clearly, we're gonna need a different kit for the front end, because there's just less distance for that clamp to travel. So again, plug in your vehicle information to our fit guide, make sure you find the right kits for you, and make sure that you also have the right set for the front and rear. But that's really all there is to it. The BaseClip system is gonna work really well in tandem with that BaseLine roof rack system, and it's really just coming down to making sure you get the right fit for your vehicle, because without that fit kit, you don't have a roof rack. Free delivery that showed up in 3 days!!! Can't beat it. The crossbars with the Control Towers and LandingPad 9 fit perfectly on my Honda Element. Had them installed in about 30 mins. Don't have my cargo box yet and wanted to test strength, so I had my 110lb wife standing on them with no issues (yes, the car was parked). Plan to take a long camping trip next week with a cargo box on top...wife will be in the vehicle:-)

Ackage came 2 days early the install was somewhat easy (did it by myself)
Did not get to mount anything to it but seems really sturdy. One thing I can say is mark out your mounting points with provided stickers then put up and make adjustments to the roof rack.

Toyota Prius
I ordered a Yakima Roof Rack for my Toyota Prius from eTrailer.com. Part of the reason for purchasing from eTrailer.com was the promise that the racks were made specifically for the car and would not dent the roof.
I received the rack on July 31, and installed the racks on my Prius according to instructions included with the racks. Our tandem kayak is 65 lbs . The towers were placed on the outer most part of the roof as indicated by the instructions. Yakima saddles were attached to the crossbars to hold the kayak. Nothing was close or touching the top of the roof. We transported the kayak to a nearby lake, 6 miles, and back. The next day we removed the racks from the roof and noticed 4 dents on the top of the roof. It was obvious that transporting the kayak on the rack caused the dents.
We had to pay $100 to have the dents removed from the Prius roof.
I cannot continue to use this rack that puts dents in the car's roof. I was extremely disappointed in the racks. In reading the Toyota manual and contacting them by phone, there is no mention of using or not using roof racks.
I was shocked to learn from Rachel at eTrailer.com that your company takes absolutely no responsibility for this Yakima product they sell. The best they can do is to pass the buck and refer us to Yakima.
Very disappointed, and out a lot of money for a product that damages your car. Will not recommend or buy here again. eTrailer.com does not even deserve one star in this review.

Typical Yakima cross bars. Coating is a little too easy to cut or gouge, but probably needs to be that way to get the grip it provides. Good enough solution for me, and allows me to continue to use all the attachments I've accumulated over the years that require a round bar

The Yakima roof rack system is an Outstanding product. I purchased the product to replace the OEM roof rack because it was too flimsy to carry the tandem bike mount and my bike. Ordered new towers and clips so as to use my old-school round bars (I bought these at least 18 years ago, maybe even earlier) and bike and canoe accessories on a new vehicle (naked roof 2018 CR-V). Installation was tedious, as usual, but not difficult and the written instructions were straightforward. Youtube helpful too but not necessary. Have hauled bikes and the canoe in high wind on the interstate (no more than 65 mph though) on the CR-V and so far so good. Have had excellent results with Yakima racks on 3 vehicles now (2 sedans and now the CR-V) over last 28 yrs. This is my first purchase through etrailer. Very pleased. Good price, excellent service online and via phone, rapid delivery. Highly recommend.
