Video Transcript for Erickson Ratchet Straps - Standard Strap - EM01411 Review

Today we're going to take a look at the Erickson ratchet tie down straps with S hooks. These are going to measure one inch by 10 feet and they have a safe working load limit of 300 pounds. You get a nice set of four of these ratchet straps, which is always a good thing to have since it's always recommended to use your straps in pairs. So we'll have four, two pairs, makes it really handy and for tying down any large or heavy equipment that you might have in your truck bed or trailer. It does have that ratcheting feature, so whenever you want to cinch down those straps and get them really tight, you can just pull back on that ratchet and it's going to bring both ends of the S hooks together and keep everything secure.Whenever you want to go to loosen it up there are two spring-loaded levers on the inside. You'll just want to pull apart on those, pull out on those, and then that should allow you to flatten out that lever. It's kind of small so it might be a little difficult to get your hand in there, especially if you have larger fingers. Then once that's flattened out, that will allow you to pull the slack back out of your strap, and get it loosened up.

Now it's just a matter of releasing those hooks from the little notches and you can ratchet it back like normal. Now these are going to be made of a very highly visible yellow polyester material, also has nice webbing on either end to keep our S hooks in place. The S hooks themselves have a vinyl coating to prevent any damage to your gear or to prevent any damage to your truck bed or trailer as well. So you don't have to worry about these scratching anything up, it's got a nice rounded finish there.Again, there are S hooks on either end so you can get those just attached to a nice secure mounting point. The ratcheting portion is going to be made of a yellow dyed chrome plated steel. So it's going to be very durable, but it's also going to help resist rust and corrosion.

So you don't have to worry about these rusting out over time. Now as far as the dimensions with these straps, again they're going to be one inch wide, as you can see there, and the total length for each strap will be 10 feet long. Our hook is going to be about two and a half inches long, the throat on that is about an inch wide, as you can see there. And overall the width on our hook is going to be about an inch and a half from one side to the outer edge of that hook portion. This does again have that safe working load limit of 300 pounds. It has a max load or break strength of 900 pounds. And whenever you're using all four of these to tie down your load you'll be able to tie down about 1,200 pounds.

You just always want to make sure that you're using using conjunction with each other. So tie down straps, you definitely want to choose them in accordance with the safe working load limit.Any time the weight of the secured cargo is higher, you want to make sure that it doesn't exceed the combined working load limit of the straps you're using. For example, if you're using a strap with a working load limit of 500 pounds each to tie down a load weighing 1,000 pounds, you need at least two straps to safely secure that load. So that's why it's recommended to use these in pairs since it gives you that higher weight capacity. And that's going to do it for our look at the Erickson ratchet tie down straps with S hooks.
