Will Lippert Pull-Out Steps Work for You?

Pull-out steps are typically installed on travel trailers. The pull-out steps from Lippert are easy to install and fold up underneath the camper for simple storage. To ensure you choose the correct size for your application, there are a few measurements you will need to take.

Lippert Manual Mounting

The Lippert pull-out steps attach the underside of the camper chassis, directly beneath the doorway. To decide which size you'll need, locate the space available underneath your camper that lines up with the door frame, and measure the width and depth. You will need a mounting space that is at least 25-3/4" wide and 5-3/4" deep.

If it turns out you have more or less space beneath your doorway, there are other step assemblies available with bracket sizes ranging from 25-1/2" wide to 28" wide. A full list of the available steps is below.

RV Steps Outriggers

Outriggers - metal brackets that act as an extension (LC301704 - sold separately) - may be needed for installation depending on the model of your original stairs. These provide extra length if the old steps are longer or wider than the new.

Once you know where the mounting bracket will go and what size mounting bracket you need, that spot will be used as the "mounting point" to determine how many steps you will need.

How Many Steps Do You Need?

Lippert Manual Entry Height

To determine how many steps you'll need, measure from the mounting point to the ground. This is called the entry height. The entry height should roughly match the height of the steps when they're fully extended, plus 6" to 9" to account for the drop from the bottom step to the ground. This measurement will also tell you how many steps you need.

The chart below displays entry height measurements in the first column. If you determined you need a 25-1/2" mounting bracket, the step part numbers with that width are in the second column. If you determined you need a 25-3/4" mounting bracket, the step part numbers with that width are in the third column. The steps for 27-1/2" mounting bracket widths are in the fourth column, and the steps for 28" mounting bracket widths are in the fifth column. Choose the bracket size that is closest to your measurements without going over.

This page's step assembly is in bold text.

To install the steps:

  1. Make sure the camper is level on flat ground
  2. Lift the steps into the mounting space and prop into place
  3. If needed, mark the mounting holes on the camper and drill

    -Set aside steps before drilling

  4. If needed, install the outriggers
  5. Align step mounting holes and secure in place with bolts and flange lock nuts

-Make sure the bracket is backed up fully against the I-beam on the chassis

    -Hardware not included

  6. Tighten hardware until snug
  7. Make sure assembly is sitting square and level
  8. Torque the hardware to 20 ft-lbs

I think the product is great! I am using it for getting in and out of my car trailer and it has made things a lot easier. I did have trouble with the shipping. The day it arrived it was raining. The package was put in my mailbox but stuck out 6" or more and the whole end of the box was soaked. I don't think sending it thru the us mail was the best option. Maybe UPS or FedEX would have been a better option.

by:

Have not completed install yet so can’t give a rating on how they function but can give rating on the install about to happen. Because of the holes that should line up with the recommended outrigger brackets also purchased from etrailer it is going to take longer to install. I will need to drill the opening on the step side brackets larger so it will line up with holes on the outrigger. See the pictures attached. I had bought the same strep but with 2 steps and the mounting holes matched up with the outrigger. It’s the one step one that is having the issue.

Ashley is awesome.
So responsive and
knowledgeable. Pull out steps are a game changer.

by:

This single step was perfect for my application. I had a 12" to 16" gap between the ground and floor of my cargo trailer depending on how high you cranked it up. I considered a step with multiple steps but decided that this single step was going to work out much better. There were instructions in the box, but since my trailer was not equipped with a mount for the step, I had to completely fabricate a platform to attach the step. It took a few hours, but was not that difficult. Thanks again to Greg making sure I got the item as soon as possible.

by:

This appears to be of good quality

by:

The step is a good product, but it was not going to work for my project. I bought this knowing I would have to modify it. I'm still trying to think how I can change it to fit as an additional step on my fifth wheel trailer. The price was low enough that I can use it for the parts that I need.

by:

Great step. East to install and works great! Just wish they made them larger since my door is 36". Super fast shipping as all ways.

by:

good product and easy to install

by:

Excellent product. I added this step to my existing power steps on a 2008 Fleetwood Bounder. At times the leveling system leaves the first step rather high off of the ground & this helps greatly. I made a steel plate to interface between this step and the bottom (OEM) step. The only problem is that on some occasions this added step is too low to allow the power steps to fully deploy ... but we deal with that on those rare occasions.

by:

etrailer has been great with many products and great service on my 72 Lee Liner restoration. Thanks

by:

Perfect for my application. An extra step to help my wife get into our 4x4 truck.

by:

Great service and attention from etrailer representatives! We'll keep on doing business with them.

by:

The step was the right part and it was delivered in only a couple days after I placed the order. It is nice to get such nice service.

by:

Installed this under the side door of a Homesteader Challenger 7’ x 12’ enclosed utility trailer. I used a 3/16” x 3” x 36” plate attached to the frame to support the front of the step mount. Rear part of the step mount was bolted to the frame. Went on easily and is solid. Very happy with the purchase and the quality.

1 year later still works great and is rock solid

by:

I bought this to replace the double step previously purchased, LC432682, and this single step is 3/4 inch wider and would not fit between the outriggers. Both are 24-1/4 inch steps but the single step is overall wider. I did not think to look at all measurements of single step since they were both 24-1/4 wide. I will send the single step back and hope to get a refund. For now I am using the double step previously bought from etrailer.

I will have our customer service team reach out to you. The dimensions of this step are 4 and a quarter inches wide x 8 and a quarter inches deep with the mounting dimensions of 25 and three quarters inches wise x 6 and three quarters inches tall x 5 and three quarters inches deep. I see that you had previously ordered step part # LC432682 where the mounting bracket dimensions are 25 and one half inches wide x 9 and three quarters inches tall x 12 inches deep. We list all of our steps by how wide the step is versus the mounting bracket dimensions. These specs will be listed on the product page for each step.

by:

Some settings to install it but it's easy. looks great and the material is strong

by:

Never used as they were not a good fit for my trailer. Passed on to another buyer. They appeared to be well-built but arrived scratched and dented.

by:

VERY WELL MADE EASY TO INSTALL ON FLAT SURFACE EVERYTHING AS ADVERTISED

by:

I wanted to add a step to my cargo trailer. Door was a little high and a stretch carrying something heavy. This was the answer; secure step and easy to extend/retract.

by:

Works fine. Holes did not line up so not the easy replacement I had hoped. Not too difficult to redrill though.

Works fine.

by:

Product exactly as described and better quality frankly than my Camper steps I will extend. Shipping very timely and free.
I am adding a feature to the mounting hole that will allow me to slide it onto the bottom step. My truck is 4x4 and high off the ground so the bottom step requires a step stool when camper is left on the truck.
Not now however, thanks semper fi

by:

Exactly what I needed to get into my work trailer! I am a remodeling contractor and have a 16ft. enclosed trailer filled with tools, etc. I am 66 years old and it was very difficult to get INTO the trailer. There never was a step on this trailer - so I thought something like this would work. It did!!! Just that extra 6in helps me a LOT get into the trailer without stress on my knees (have had both knees replaced). Easy to install and does the job. I weigh 260# and no problem handling my weight.

by:

The step worked great on my 2500 promaster van.

by:

I was not aware that the step didn’t come with any kind of hardware. Had to purchase separately. Other than that, it worked for what I needed it for.

  • Upgrading Lippert One-Step for Two-Step Manual Pull Out Steps For Trailer
The Lippert # LC432682 manual pull out two-step stairs is the closest match. Replacement steps only come in a few sizes. This step is 25-1/2" wide at the widest point.
