How to Properly Measure for Cut-Out Dimension
There are two main dimensions you need to know when choosing a replacement access door or adding a new one to your RV:
The cut-out diameter is the width of the circle needed to ensure the access door mounts flush to the wall of your RV.
The mounting depth is the depth needed behind the mounting surface for the access door's hatch to properly fit.

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Valterra Universal Electric Cable Hatch for RVs. This is for use with RV electrical cables up to 50 amps. The unit's going to come with 2 different housings, a small one and a large one. Just choose whatever one works best for your size cable. It's also going to come with the included installation putty tape, hardware, and foam gasket. The screw heads are going to be painted to match the color of the hatch. Then the main hatch door, I just want to point out that that's actually going to hide the mounting hardware.
That's a really nice design of the unit, so it won't be visible with the hatch door closed and with the unit fully installed. Once you have whatever housing you need . For our application today we're just going to say that we're going to use the larger one. The mount holes are going to match up perfectly. The hatch door is able to swing open for easy access. It also has a sliding door right here.
That's going to allow the cable to pass through with the main hatch door in the closed position. With that closed, it's actually going to keep unwanted items out of the stored area when the cable's not being used. When it comes to the overall dimension, no matter what housing you use, the large or the small one, the diameters are going to be the same, because that's this outer piece here. That's going to be about 5-1/8". Now, the overall depth will change a little bit. For the larger housing, that's going to give us an overall depth measurement of about 2-7/8".
With the smaller housing that's going to decrease to about 2-1/2" of overall depth. Each housing does require a cut-out at the mounting location. The larger one is going to require a cut-out of right around 3-1/2". The smaller one's going to require a cut-out of a little bit closer to 3" in diameter. The unit's going to be white in color. When it comes to the mount hole separation, we're going to have 4 mounting holes. It's all going to be the same, because we're going to be based off of the mounting holes here on the hatch door and that flange piece, and so the mount hole separation on this unit, center-on-center, we're looking at about 2-11/16".
That's going to be the same distance between each mount hole. It's a nice square pattern, or square design. Now, the hole right here of the sliding door, that's going to give us an opening of about 1" by 1". If we take a look at the larger housing, this is going to give us an opening size of about 3-1/8" with a depth of about 2-1/2". The smaller one's going to give us an opening of about 2-1/2" with a depth of about 2". That's going to do it for today's look at the Valterra Universal Electric Cable Hatch for RVs.

Very good product for the price. It is plastic, but works very well. I used the larger of the 2 inside pieces and didn't have to undo the cable at the circuit board. The plug poked right on through. About a 10 minute change over from original that was missing the door. Seals well against the outer wall and came with the puddy and screws to seal it off well. Very easy swap.
Exactly what I needed. Fits my Viking Spirit tent trailer perfectly.
Product was good for my purposes. Used it to cut a pass through the floor of a cargo trailer for an electrical cord. The only criticism I would say is that the plastic hinge on the lid is not the rugged. Pops out very easily, but since mine is more or less an "inside" application through the floor wasn't an issue. For the price, served my purposes well.
Hinge is a litte flimsy due to it being plastic, the company replaced mine that came broken asap! Customer Service is exemplary.
Opening was small for the 30 amp plug. Very tight fit that requires some kind of manipulation to use.

Cover departed on the last trip. Head winds were really strong. Also lost a marker lens missing.
Used this for the floor of my cargo trailer conversion a/c unit. Just what the doctor ordered.

This was an exact same item that broke on my wife's horse trailer after 20 years and I bought it as a replacement.

Its been a year or so since I installed this. As I wrote in the first review, the hinge did eventually break off, so now its a pop off cover instead of a hinged cover, but otherwise has still served the purpose.
