How To Carry Six Bikes On the Back Of a 2018 Volkswagen Atlas With Extra Cargo Space
Question:
I have a 2018 VW atlas and a 6 person family. We’d like to have both a 6 bike rack and a cargo holder for camping. Can we do this on the same hitch? Can the cargo shelf be on an extender or is there such a thing as piggybacking?

I do have an option for you but there would not be a good way to carry six bikes on the back of the vehicle alongside a cargo carrier. The only bike rack we offer that can carry six bikes is the Yakima HangOver 6 Bike Rack part # Y02485 and you cannot use any sort of adapter with this nor would the hitch be able to handle all of this weight most likely. The best option you have would be to use the above on the rear of the vehicle with a trailer hitch like the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # C13366 and then install a roof rack and cargo box/basket on top for extra cargo space. This is really your only option.
For a roof rack, I recommend the Yakima JetStream Crossbar System part # Y00426 and part # Y33TR and then for a cargo box/basket, I recommend the Yakima SkyBox 21 Rooftop Cargo Box part # Y07337 or the Yakima MegaWarrior Extra Large Roof Rack Cargo Basket part # Y07080-82.
