Dual Folding Arms with Anti-Sway Cradles

Saris Glide EX Folding Arms

The Saris Glide EX has dual arms that offer excellent support for your bikes. They slope up to provide ground clearance for steep driveways and bumpy roads.

Saris Glide EX Folding Arms

To fold the arms down, pull up the lever at the top of the mast. This leaves a smaller footprint, so you can keep the rack on your vehicle to park in your garage. And when stored in this configuration, it doesn't take up as much space in your garage.

Saris Glide EX Anti Sway Cradles

Each set of anti-sway cradles has two straps that secure your bike along the top tube and one that secures the seat post or downtube. This multi-point contact helps keep your bikes from rocking back and forth, reducing bike-to-bike contact.

Easy, 1-Hand Tilting for Cargo Area Access

Saris Glide EX Hanging-Style Rack Tilting

The rack tilts down with or without your bikes loaded. This means you won't have to remove the whole rack or your bikes to access your cargo area for grocery runs and other errands.

Saris Glide EX UpperHand Lever

To tilt the rack, simply squeeze the trigger on the hand grip. This lets you effortlessly glide the bikes away from your vehicle using only one hand. As the bikes move away from the vehicle, the dual arms tilt upward and stop at a 34.5-degree angle, leaving ample ground clearance during the entire motion.

Threaded Hitch Pin and Complete Security

Saris Glide EX Adapter Sleeve and Hitch PinSaris Glide EX Threaded Hitch Pin

A threaded hitch pin is included that helps eliminate rattle in the hitch receiver during transport. To tighten the pin in your hitch, use a 3/4" wrench (sold separately). It includes a lock to secure the rack to your vehicle.

Saris Bones Hitch bike locks

A cable lock is also included to secure your bikes to the rack. The integrated cable threads around your bikes' frames and inserts into the lock at the end of the right arm. The cable stores inside the mast when not in use.

Available Adapter Bar

Saris Glide EX Adapter Sleeve and Hitch Pin

If you have a women's bike, kid's bike, or any other bike without a straight, horizontal top tube, you will need an adapter bar (sold separately) to properly mount your bike. The bar fits between the seat post and handlebar stem post of your bike to create a top tube so your bike hangs level on the rack.

Video Transcript for Saris Glide EX Tilting 5 Bike Rack Review

Jake: Hey guys, it's Jake here with etrailer. Today we're going to be taking a look at and we're going to show you some of the cool features on this Saris Glide EX 5 Bike Rack. This is going to be a hanging style bike rack that's going to hold five bikes to and from your destination.Right away, I want to show you what's going to set this bike rack apart from other bike racks. This bike rack is going to allow you to get into the rear of your vehicle without having to unload all your bikes. So if you forget something out of the back of your car, you simply pull on this gray level here, tilt the whole bike rack away from your vehicle. You can see the whole rack tilts up and holds your bikes sturdy.

Then you can just open up your rear hatch and grab whatever you forgot or load your whole car up. There's plenty of space in here to be able to access the whole rear of your vehicle. When it comes to tilting your bike rack back up, you need to grab here, or both here and here, and tilt it up towards your vehicle. Now, I thought once I got all five of these bikes loaded that it was going to be really, really heavy to get back up, and it's not. The way it pivots on this bike rack makes it really easy to lean it away and tilt it back up.When it comes to hauling this many bikes to and from your destination, you want to make sure they're safe. Saris did a great job of including an integrated cable lock that's going to store in the tube on your rack itself and lock into the end of your post here.Whether you have bikes loaded or not, you're going to want to keep your rack safe, so they included this anti-rattle bolt that's going to go through the hitch pin and lock on the other side so that you can ensure that your rack and your bikes are safe when not attended. The weight capacity for this bike rack is going to be pretty impressive.

It's going to be 30 pounds per bike, which gives you a total of 150 pounds. Now, you're not going to have to worry about that for any of your regular road bikes or mountain bikes. It's when you get into the larger bikes that it's going to cause a problem. If you have five large bikes on here, you just want to be careful. With any hanging style rack, you are going to have a little bit of difficulty getting bikes on there, and especially with as tight as it is on this bike rack, you might want to pick up a bike adapter bar to be able to fit any irregular frames like we have here, to be able to fit those five bikes on there. If you're worried about your bikes making contact with this carrier, as you can see, they are pretty tight on here, but that is going to be something that's going to be hard to achieve when wanting to haul five bikes to one destination. So just keep that in mind.Let's go ahead and take the bikes off so you can show the spacing a little bit better.

Now with our bikes off, you can truly see how close these cradles are to each other. You can not adjust them along this post, so they are going to be stationary. Just to give you a better idea, they're going to be about five inches center to center apart, so this is where you're going to have to get creative to get your bikes on and make sure they're not touching each other as much as they might be in different configurations. When it comes to strapping down your bike, you're going to set your top tube in the cradles on the top, like we have on our bike in the first spot, and then this strap is going to be designated for your down tube. That's going to keep your bike from swaying too much from side to side. You see there, we're shaking it back and forth and it's not moving too much. These cradles are going to have these nice grips on the inside, and what I like is that they're rubberized, so they're both going to grip the top tube in to make sure that no harm comes to that.

The spacing in between them, on the other hand, is a really good place to make sure that your brake lines line up with them and it'll make sure they're not going to smash any.Another thing that Saris did that just goes the extra mile, is that they've put a design into the end of their buckles so that you can actually slide your fingers in to get a little bit better grip on it when tightening it down on your bike.I want to give you a little tip of removing a bike from this size rack. What you're going to want to do is, you're going to want to turn these anti-sway cradles in, so that they don't interfere with any of the tubes, and then turn all your other cradles in, and you will do this as you take the bikes off. I want to take off those straps, remove the down tube strap and then this, you can just wiggle it out with little to no contact. This bike rack is going to have a lightweight but heavy-duty aluminum construction, so that way you don't have to worry about it rusting or corroding over time, and it's going to have this nice matte black finish so that it looks good while driving down the road.A couple of measurements for you guys just so you know what you're getting into. From the center of the hitch pin to the outermost point is going to be about 41 inches, so that's how much you've added to the rear of your vehicle. But, Saris has added something that will make it a lot easier to travel around town when not hauling your bikes. Just pull up on this top pull tab here, make sure it clicks into place, and you can see how much we've taken off. This is going to be about 17 inches to the outermost point, which will be here on your top handle. That's quite a bit of distance you've taken off from your vehicle, so you don't have to worry about parking in tight parking spots or in your garage. Now for your closet point, from the center of the hitch pin to the closet point, is going to be nine inches. This is going to be your part right here, but this is stationary, so you're not going to have to worry about it making contact with your vehicle.Let's say you get to your destination and you don't feel like unloading your bike rack because you may be leaving a few days later and you don't want to reload it back up. So once you have your bikes off, you can still tilt this away to get all your luggage or groceries or whatever you might have in the back of your vehicle. So my personal opinion, I really like this bike rack because it does come fully assembled in the box, so you just pull it out of the box and you can throw it in your hitch. You don't have to worry about messing up anything, if you put something in the right or wrong place. The other thing is that I can pick this bike rack up and be able to have the ability to haul five bikes. But if I go riding regularly with just two or three bikes, you can stagger them so long as you have the heaviest bike towards the front of the rack. So you can put a bike in the first slot, the third slot and the fifth slot, and then you should have plenty of spacing in between your bikes. But, I'll still have that option to haul five bikes when I go on those longer vacations. We'll go ahead and show you how it performs on our test course. First up is going to be our solid speed bumps. This is going to represent going in and out of your driveway or going over a speed bump in a parking lot.Next is going to be our alternating speed bumps. This is going to represent going through a pothole or a bump in the road. Now, this is going to have a little bit more side to side movement, but the Saris EX 5 does do a great job of keeping it to a minimum. Now next on to our slalom. This is going to represent driving down a windy back road or making evasive turning. That's going to do it for a look at the Saris Glide EX 5 Hanging Style Bike Rack.

  • Best 5-Bike Rack That Can Be Tilted Back with Bikes Attached
The Saris Glide EX 5 Bike Rack part # SA775 is the only five bike carrier that I am aware of that will allow the rack to be tilted back without the bikes being removed so this is truly the best option.

  • Recommended 4-Bike Rack for a 2021 Mazda CX-5 W/ A 2" Hitch
The only real "downside" between using the Saris Glide EX Bike Rack for 5 Bikes # SA775 over the Saris Glide EX Bike Rack for 4 Bikes # SA774 is the fact that the 5 bike rack version is slightly heavier (39-lbs vs 37) and it doesn't have as high per-bike weight capacity (35-lbs per-bike vs 30-lbs per-bike), other than that they are the exact same. I was also looking at the Saris Glide # SA774 you mention and you shouldn't need to use any adapters to work with your Mazda. This bike rack...
