So far the trans cooler has been working well. I also used the adapters. Both products are doing well after 1500 miles or so and many hills, mountains, and trailering.

100 happy with the trans cooler and adapter set. Temp stays nice and cool. Puts me at ease when towing my trailer.

by:

worked great doing the job it is designed for

by:

Great cooler upgrade for my 1997 GMC Yukon! Little delivery damage, but was so easy to bend those fins back to original shape so no worries!
Nice that you had proper dimension measurements online, so it was easy to figure out what kind I can fit in my truck. Complete kit had everything I needed to get it done!
Modified old cooler bracket little bit and that was it. Works great!

by:

Will make the installation of the trans cooler easier

by:

Have I gotten my refund for trans cooler fittings that weren't needed? 1994 k1500 trans cooler is working great.

by:

It looks like from reading the matierl if one is using the cooler in series with the factory cooler this adapter is not needed.
Thus I would like to return, but I fear the shipping cost will not make sense, dollar wise...

Thus the recommendation should state if you are adding a cooler to your system where one does not already exist, then you'll need this adapter.

So if your adding to an already existing system, you do not need the adapter.

by:

Worked out great for installing the extra trans cooler.

  • Recommended Transmission Coolers and Programmer For a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 1500HD 6.0L 4L80E
First I recommend getting a Edge Gas Evolution CTS3 Performance Tuner # EP39YR for your 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500HD. This will allow you to get more power to make towing easier on your Silverado and will also allow you to more accurately monitor temperatures on your engine and transmission. For your transmission I recommend the Derale Series 8000 Plate-Fin Transmission Cooler Kit # D13504. This is a large plate cooler which will help to lower transmission temperatures when towing....

  • Can I Replace The Factory Transmission Cooler on a 2013 Chevrolet Silverado
In regards to your 2013 Chevrolet Silverado, if you will be removing the auxiliary transmission cooler then I recommend using the Derale Series 9000 Plate-Fin Transmission Cooler Kit part # D13614 to replace it. This cooler measures 11" wide x 11-3/8" tall x 1-1/4" deep which you should have plenty of space for. In general we recommend that you install the supplemental transmission cooler in-line the factory transmission cooler (in radiator) and the auxiliary transmission cooler (behind...

  • How are the Derale Adapter Fittings # D13018 Installed and Used to Install a Transmission Cooler
The male end of the Derale Radiator Adapter part # D13018 that you referenced does thread into the outlet side of the factory cooler in your radiator. The female side of this adapter would thread onto the male side of the coolant line that you removed from the factory cooler. I realize that's probably hard to visualize so I attached a diagram that shows how both sides of the adapter are used. I also attached an FAQ article on transmission coolers, plus a video of one being installed....

-6 AN fittings are a specific threaded fitting size. The Derale Hyper-Cool Remote Transmission Cooler Kit w/ Fan, -6 AN Inlets - Class V # D13960 has the specific fittings you mentioned but it also comes with the barb fittings that simply use a hose clamp. Part # D13018 comes with a quantity of 2 which you will need to install a transmission cooler on your vehicle. This is a Class lll cooler and will work great with your Express. You will also need the radiator adapter fittings, part # D13018. The first thing you would need to consider is the size of the cooler. Generally, the bigger the cooler the better. The next thing to check out is the mounting location. I have exactly what you will need to keep both the engine oil and transmission fluid cool in your 2013 Chevrolet Express Van 3500 but a remote cooler will not be necessary. Instead, I recommend using the Derale Combination Transmission and Engine Oil Cooler part # D15902. As long as you have at least 17" wide x 12-1/2" tall x 3/4" deep of space to mount the cooler behind your grille and in front of your radiator/condenser then it will work well for you. The Derale Series 8000 Transmission Cooler part # D13504 that you referenced would be an excellent choice for you. It is 11" wide x 8-3/4" tall x 7/8" deep. For your specific application, I recommend a plate-fin cooler like the Derale Series 8000 Plate-Fin Transmission Cooler Kit w/Barb Inlets - Class IV - Efficient, # D13504. • Should a Transmission Cooler Go After the Factory Cooler on a 2005 Chevy Silverado 2500HD
The recommended flow path when adding a supplemental transmission cooler like # D13502 is from the transmission to the factory cooler, then to the supplemental cooler, and finally back to the transmission. You may also need an additional fitting to avoid cutting and flaring lines. The correct fitting depends on the engine in your truck. If you have a 4.3 liter or 8.1 liter, use fitting # D13018. For any other engine size use # D13035. I have included some links on transmission coolers for you.

You cannot over cool a transmission. The ideal install location would be in front of the radiator and A/C condenser, right behind the grille.
