Installation Of Transmission Cooler With -6 AN Fittings On 2005 Chevy Silverado With 6.6L V8 Diesel
Question:
Sorry, what are 6 AN fittings? I have a 2005 CHev. Silverado with diesel and Allison trans. On the stock cooler the factory lines attach from the bottom of cooler. Do the lines on the cooler attach from side or bottom?

Expert Reply:
-6 AN fittings are a specific threaded fitting size. The Derale Hyper-Cool Remote Transmission Cooler Kit w/ Fan, -6 AN Inlets - Class V # D13960 has the specific fittings you mentioned but it also comes with the barb fittings that simply use a hose clamp. On this cooler, the lines attach to the sides of the cooler. This transmission cooler has internal turbulators for superior heat transfer. I've attached an installation video of a similar transmission cooler for you to view.
For an easy installation if you have the 5/8 inch hex fittings on your transmission lines, I recommend using the barb fittings on the cooler and using the Derale Radiator Adapter Fittings for GM # D13018 so you don't need to cut or flare lines.
