Transmission Cooler Recommendation for 2011 Chevy Silverado

Question:

I have a 2011 silverado 1500 with a 5.3, 6 speed HD trans, 4x4 with 3.42 gears. I have a 28foot travel trailer and while towing trans temp goes up to 205-210 degrees. I wanted to know what temp is too hot and should pull over and would it be beneficial or recommended to add a trans cooler with a fan on it

You are a little on the warm side for your transmission fluid. If you can keep it under 200 degrees you will have the max life out of it. That being said transmissions really start to go downhill at 260 degrees.

The Derale cooler part # D13503 with the install fitting part # D13018 is the most popular option for your 2011 Chevy Silverado 1500 and would work well. I attached an install video that shows the cooler installed in a similar GM vehicle.

I assume this would also be suitable for a 2011 Tahoe w 5.3L engine, 6-speed transmission, even though website says it's not a fit for that vehicle. Any other mounting hardware needed? There is currently no transmission cooler installed.

As long as you have space in your engine compartment for the 11W x 8-3/4T x 7/8D Derale Series 8000 # D13503 then you're good to go with the Adapter Fittings # D13018. It comes with everything else needed to install as far as parts go.

@JonG D13018 doesn't seem to be the correct adapter. I've ordered D13035, which I now think is correct. I installed a Derale 13504 cooler, but wasn't able to connect it yet.
