Installation

This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side interior trim panels in your rear cargo area.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way flat connector will be stowed within your trunk or rear cargo area.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

Tail Light Converter

A tail light converter is built into this T-One connector. Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of your trailer. The tail light converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

2006 Toyota Highlander

I'm not very experienced with auto repairs/upgrades, but this was relatively easy, even for this 66 year old grandpa!! The eTrailer video covers it very well, and the only issue I had was that the adhesive-backed part didn't stick. (Yes, I took off the backing first). They even included zip ties to keep it neat.

One thing I noticed after the fact, and redid, was that in the black tray on the driver's side there is a notch on the outside wall location. In the middle of that notch there is about a 5/8 inch slot that I believe Toyota provided expressly to route out the 4 prong adapter wire. No doubt to make it easy on their dealers. That's the place to route it out from behind the panel. (See pic).

Also, I bought a Hopkins model 48625 tester that you hook up to your project to see if it is working properly. It shows you if the tail lights work, and the left and right turn signals. (You start the car, turn on the lights and work them from the drivers seat). If I have any trailer problems in the future, it allows one to test the car separately, and if that is working, then it must be with the trailer. I'm glad I bought it. Overall, a great kit. I recommend it. ETrailer shipped immediately and it came without any damage.

Hi. Thanks for the follow up. The hitch and wiring work flawlessly! I bought it to haul a small sailboat and it is very rugged. Works great! I highly recommend it.

2005 Toyota Highlander

I was looking to purchase a trailer hitch and wiring assembly for my 2005 Toyota Highlander. What I found on the internet was a company called "etrailer.com". This company had videos showing how to install their hitch and wiring assembly for my year and model. The installation looked easy with NO wire cutting. I ordered both parts. George J from e.trailer followed up with a series of emails letting me know that my ordered and on it's way with tracking info. The order was received on time and when unpackaged everything was of high quality. My son and I installed everything in a little over 30 minutes. The videos were spot on and made installation a snap! It was a pleasure to work with this company. Jim M. Fredericksburg, VA

Hi,
Great company to do buisness with.
I orded all the parts and they arrived in a timely manner. The box did arrive with huge hole in it due to the good ole post office not etrailer. Thanks to the way etrailer packed it nothing was lost. Yay etralier. It was easy to install just took the old 4 bolts and tow bars down and put up the new hitch and new 6 bolts. Only took about 5 minutes. The video instuctions for the wiring made it easy also maybe took 7 miutes to do wiring. Thanks etrailer for making and easy project even a girl can do. :-

2008 Hyundai Azera

I've installed several trailer wiring kits, and this was by far the easiest one ever. except for finding a place to locate the black box and securing the wiring harness to existing guides, it was plug & play. Nice not to have to strip wires, solder, and tape connections.

The wiring harness still works perfectly. I havent had to do a thing to it, except use it to power the lights in my trailer.

by:
2003 Toyota Highlander

Harness arrived on schedule and well packaged. All connections were easily made, except for the ground. Routing the wires proved difficult. I believe the tutorial that I watched was for a 2003 Toyota Highlander and the wiring harness was not where the tutorial showed, so I had to improvise in order to hide all the wires. The only wire I had to cut was the ground, in order to put a larger end on it. When finished, you'd never know I was there. The trailer plug hides nicely in the rear compartment when not needed. I'm very pleased with the final results. Thanks!

I got the trailer wiring harness and loved it. Received it within 3 days of order. Installation couldn't have been simpler. It took about 20 minutes and now I have lights for my trailer. etrailer support was awesome. After ordering the part I was able to go directly to a video showing how to install it.

Was shipped fast and a breeze to install. Fit up was perfect. Shipped with instructions and hardware pack. The 118413 wiring pack was also fantastic and a dream to install. This will work well for hauling a boat and utility trailer now. Thanks etrailer!

2005 Toyota Highlander

Generally, the wiring harness arrived quickly and in good shape. It was pretty easy to install. My only criticism is that the pictures provided on the directions weren't very good. Also, I recommend buying a 4-way flat connector tester (which etrailer sells) for about 5 bucks to be sure every thing works well before you attach a trailer to your rig.

Everything is fine. I did purchase the items for a one time use and that was the last time they were used. They worked fine and are there and ready if the need arises again. However I am very happy with everything cost, value, quality, fit, installation, etc.. I am contemplating a towing unit for my old pickup truck and if I decide to go that route etrailer will be the first place I look.

by:

The product itself seems to work great, so I will give it 5 stars. My only concern on installation of the product was due to the lack of a self-tapping screw to provide a sure grounding. I ended up using a bolt that I questioned.
However, I then had to install a 7-pin adapter which did come with a self-tapping screw for grounding, so I'm not sure if the bolt I used was sufficient, but everything works fine now.

Bought this for my sister'a Toyota Highlander. It worked great and was easy to install. However, after a little while, the right tailllight started not working. It turns out the plug was not making a very good connection on one side. You have to unplug and jiggle it a lot then t will come back on. Other than that, it's been great. Got the job done.

If your 2001 Toyota Highlander came with a factory tow package then there is a connection underneath.
