Installation

This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located in your trunk, behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side tail lights. You will have to remove the rear scuff panel and pull back the felt trunk liner to access these connection points. Once you've plugged in the T-connector, run the hot lead to your car battery. Connect the lead to the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed in an out-of-the-way location within your trunk.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

Powered Tail Light Converter with Surface-Mount Technology

A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. This converter is a circuit-protected, battery-powered unit that bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness. As a result, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

Curt builds each tail light converter using surface-mount technology (SMT). This method of construction involves soldering electronic components directly to the surface of a printed circuit board. SMT eliminates the need for leads, which are used in older through-hole technology. The result is a circuit board that is smaller yet provides more routing area and that offers superior performance, reliability and durability.

Curt SMT Circuit Boards

Circuit boards constructed using SMT have been shown to perform better under rough conditions with excessive vibration than those made using the through-hole method. And where would vibration be more likely to occur than in towing applications? Curt converters also produce less heat, leading to increased durability and longer life. In addition, lower levels of resistance ensure better performance, especially for parts that operate at higher frequencies.

Each Curt circuit board is made using high-quality components that are pieced together in the most technologically savvy fashion, leading to greater predictability and reliability in functioning.

Speaker 1: Today we're going to take a look at the CURT T-Connector vehicle wiring harness with the four way flat trailer connector. Now this is a custom fit part, it is designed to fit the 2013 and newer Scion FRS, Subaru BRZ and Toyota 86, and the 2017 and newer Subaru Impreza. And on a custom fit part like this, I do recommend to go to our website, use our fit guide, put in your year and model vehicle, and it will show you if this will work for your application. Now this kit will provide this four way flat trailer connector at the back of your vehicle to power your trailer's signal lights. It is compatible with five pole, six pole and seven pole adapters that we do sell separately on our website. It does connect very quickly and easily, basically you just locate your connection points, which are in the trunk of your vehicle, use these T connectors, plug one on each side, ground your white wire, then run your power wire to your vehicle's battery. Now it does include this taillight converter, this black box here.

This is to ensure that your vehicle's wiring will match that of your trailer. It is a power module, so it does connect directly to your battery to avoid overloading your vehicle's electrical system, and they do use the SMT technology when they built this. The SMT stands for surface mount technology. It will give you consistent, reliable performance, helps maximize your trailer light yield and intensity, while producing minimal heat and also ensures superior operation on any rough road conditions. Also comes with this nice dust cap for your four way, so while you're not plugged into a trailer, you can just put your dust cover on there, put it on the other way, just like that, and you can leave it attached if you'd prefer. And then when you're not plugged in, just put that cover over there to protect the terminals from any damage or from the elements. Now this kit is made in the USA.

A few specs on this, the maximum amperage on the stop and turn light circuits is 3 amps per circuit, on the taillights is 6 amps per circuit. Now it does come with everything shown here on the table, I'm going to go through everything briefly. It does give you a nice set of detailed instructions that will describe with pictures how to install everything, but basically what you will do is go to the rear of the vehicle, access your trunk, and then you'll access your connection point, and you'll take your T connectors right here, and you'll start on your passenger side, and you'll take this T connector that has the green wire in it, plug that in to your connector on the passenger side, and then you'll take the connector with the yellow wire, that's for the driver's side, you'll run this all the way over to the driver's side and do the same, plug that in over there. Now what you want to do is on this converter box, this black box, you do want to attach that to a flat surface so it doesn't bounce around, and they do include some double face tape that you can use to adhere that down, and then run your bonded wire here out the back toward your trailer, to where you're going to hook it up. And your last two wires, you have to hook up for your black wire, your power wire, and your white wire with an eyelet on it for a ground, so find a nearby ground that you can use, just use this white wire and attach to that. If there isn't one nearby, you can make your own ground, they include this grounding screw. And then your last connection is your power wire.

This needs to run to your vehicle's battery, so they do give you some extra length of wire to do that, and the connectors, so you'll put that on the power wire, connect it to one end of the wire, run this wire all the way to your battery, and you don't want to connect this wire directly to your battery, you want to run it through this in line fuse holder. So same way, take your butt connector, attach it to one side of the fuse holder, and then the other side of the fuse holder is what will connect to your battery. They do give you a connector to do that. Once it's all connected, pop it open, take your included 10 amp fuse, install it into your fuse holder, put your cap on, and you're all ready to go. And they do give you some extra cable ties to take up any slack in the wiring.

But that should do it for the review on the CURT T-Connector vehicle wiring harness with the four way flat connector.

  • Does Curt Trailer Hitch Fit 2024 Subaru Impreza Sedan Base Model
Hi Ian, Yes, your 2024 Subaru Impreza sedan base model is compatible with and can use the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C11466. The hitch will fit and there is no type of modification or cutting needed for the bumper fascia, it will be in tact. The only other thing I wanted to mention is that if you also need a trailer wiring harness, the correct fit for your '24 Impreza sedan is part # C56212.

  • Wiring Code to Use for Installing ZCI Trailer Wiring in 2001 BMW X5
Have you checked all of the wiring that runs to the taillights of your 2001 BMW X5? You should note that your vehicle uses pulse width modulation. Brake and turn signals are sent along the same wire and signals are sent as pulses which need to be deciphered. In the instructions you should use the BT wiring code.

  • Hitch, Ball Mount and Wiring for 2017 Toyota 86 for Towing and Cargo Carrier
Draw-Tite Class I hitch # 24935 is a confirmed fit for your 2017 Toyota 86 and with it you can use ball mount # 3593. Add either 1-7/8-inch hitch ball # 19256 or 2-inch ball # 19258 depending on the coupler size on the trailer. Curt wiring kit # C56212 is a fit but instead I recommend the Tekonsha harness # 118629 because we have found their wiring products to be more reliable. An article to help you with the install is linked. For a cargo carrier I recommend the Curt # C18110 instead...

  • Will Bumper Cover of 2019 Subaru BRZ Need to be Removed to Install Draw-Tite 24935 Hitch
According to the linked installation instructions, in order to install the # 24935 on your vehicle the rear bumper cover needs to be temporarily removed. After the bumper cover is taken off, the rear bumper beam is removed. The hitch is then installed so that it's sandwiched in between the bumper beam and the body of the vehicle. Once the fasteners are reinstalled and torqued according to the values listed in the instructions, the bumper cover is reinstalled. I've linked the installation...

  • Curt Trailer Wiring Harness Causes ABS Problems when Installed on a 2013 Scion FR-S
When you are having the problems on your 2013 Scion FR-S do you have anything plugged into the Curt wiring harness # C56212? If nothing is plugged into the 4-Way then it should not be drawing any power from the vehicle tail light connections. The only thing I can think of is if there is a short it could be overdrawing the tail light connections causing the problems you are having. That would indicate a problem inside the converter. To test the harness, use a circuit tester such as # PTW2993...
