Brophy tie down dimensions

No-Drill Installation

These clamp-on tie-downs install quickly and easily, with no drilling or modification to your truck required. Because they're mounted in the bed instead of on the frame or body of your truck, you don't need any kind of fancy mechanical background to get this job done. You just need to slide the hold downs over the rails of your truck and clamp them down with the included T-bars and hex bolts.

HoldDown Side View

The fact that they simply clamp on means that you can remove these tie-downs when you're not hauling your camper, leaving no trace. Use the provided neoprene pads on the T-bolts and tie-downs where they make contact with your truck to make sure no scratches or dents will be left behind either.

where to put camper tie downs

It's important that the tie-downs on your truck line up with the anchors on your camper at the correct angle to ensure a secure hold. Ideally the tie-downs should be on the outside of your camper's anchor points, but they can be on the inside as well, just as long as they're not lined up with each other.

Securing your Camper

Camper with TieDowns

To secure your camper to your truck, you'll also need a tie-down hardware package consisting of turnbuckles, S-hooks, and chains (TDHP - sold separately). This hardware attaches the anchors on your camper to the tie-downs on your truck to keep your camper safely mounted. Once you tighten the turnbuckles to the correct level of tension (not too tight!), you'll be good to hit the road.

I used these to mount a vintage 1970 Avion C-11 to a 1993 D250. They worked great and were much stronger than I expected - and it was a huge cost savings (and a much more attractive look) than some of the frame mounted options of more than $1000. There were some oddities that I noticed. It was impossible to mount them exactly the way the instructions suggested because of where on the wings near the cab,. The brackets also could not stay on with the camper unloaded because they would hit the jack mounts, meaning they had to me bolted in after the camper was in the truck but before lowering the jacks, making the access to the bolts a frustrating 'feel for it' experience.I'f suggest the manufacturer secure the bolt so that you don't need to hold both sides when tightening/loosening, and also refine it to need less turns to do so. It took me 2 hours to mount the first time, and not much less when removing them with the limited access. The pads also came off in the first use.

I gave it a 5 star because I realize there are limited options for older campers and anything universal is going to have issues with some thing - so that's just my input and experience. Overall pretty reasonable for the price and functionality.

The product was shipped extremely quickly, it arrived 3 days after I ordered them. As far as the product goes I was extremely pleased that they were as easy to install as the product video showed them to be. I had been looking for
a tie down system that would work for my 2018 Ford since I purchased my camper in 2020 and after much research I found these at etrailer. One word of advice is that if your camper has a shower or other design that allows the camper to extend across the bed behind the wheel wells, either move the rear tie downs forward or shorten the leveling stud before you attempt to load your camper. On mine it turned out that once the tie downs were placed and attached I had to cut off about 3 inches of the threads.
Other than that it was an easy install although the bolts that attach the tie downs to the under lip clamp are a challenge to install but take your time and they will go on. I will post an update once I have been on the road for a few trip and see how they are working.
Thank you etrailer for your super fast shipping and online product videos.

Purchased the Brophy camper tie down set of four for the Palomino truck camper I just purchased. These are my second set as the first set were sold with my Hallmark camper. Easy to install and hold the camper in the truck with no worries.

No problems. Would buy again. Very easy to take on and off the truck.

by:

These tie downs work great. It holds my 3k lb Cabover camper in place without issues. And I live in my camper, so not losing my home is very important to me!!

by:

Ordered these for new camper. Very easy to install and does the job without the high cost of frame mount.

by:

The products arrived on the time scale as stated. The packaging did not hold up and the box with the metal tie downs was broken open. There was too much weight for the box and it just split open. Not sure if anything is missing. Packaging of items that are heavy should be more secure and sturdy.

As far as I'm concerned these are junk. Wasted my money. Do not mount in proper location on a 2011 Chevy Silverado 6.5' Bed. Because of the design of the bed rail the mounts cannot be installed in the proper locations for securing camper. The photos show the maximum forward and back that these can be mounted. Not at all made for the 6.5 foot bed 2007 or later Siverado. The Black Powder Coated Steel isn't that great either. Paint missing, dinged up from storage and shipping probably.

by:

These wont work for my truck and camper. The box on a 2018 gmc 2500 short bed does not lend well to placement of these in order to get the correct geometry i needed for the tie-down points on my Palomino maverick 6601. I had high hopews of not having to buy the frame mounts, but i will have to.

The HSSF tie downs have specific fit parameters as mentioned in the product specifications above: External bed rail width cannot exceed 5-12 Requires at least 2 of space beneath lip of bed rail Not compatible with -in bed liners, bed rails, double-walled beds, or side-step beds

In response to the etrailer comment response, they fit on the bed fine, with plenty of clearance and would work for a smaller camper. they just did not fit in the right spots for my truckcamper combo.

by:

The tie downs are great no problems.Very easy to install.I keep them on my truck all year long Thank you

by:

Order arrived quickly, priced ok. Box was broken open by shipper NS the 4 T-bolsts bolts ere missing. Etrailer shipped ou the missing parts a few days later, but in the meantime I fashioned t-bolts I could use for my trip. Many customer comments on this camper Brophy tie-down match my experience. Etrailer follow up was great, but surely must be aware that their packing is sub-standard. Perhaps zip-tying the T-bolts to larger pieces would eliminate the loss even in case of breakage. Functionally the tie-dows were easy to install and seem quite adequate for off-road use of my in-bed camper. Will continue to use etrailer because of their excellent customer service.

by:

These tie-downs worked awesome for our pop up camper on our 1998 F150. Super snug, haven't loosened up or moved on the truck, camper hasn't budged either. I was leary at first not having the camper tied to the frame but now I have total faith in these tie downs.

by:

These Brophy tie downs have worked great over the past year. I leave the camper on the truck and it is my daily driver as well as RV. The camper weighs in at 1500 dry and about 2000 loaded. I do not do any radical 4x4 but I have taken some backwoods off road logging trails.

by:

I received this tie downs on July, and first used it yesterday.

My Camper ‘s dry weight is about 1600 lb, and the products are good for my truck camper.

The problem was the position where tie downs were fitted on my truck. I tried several times to fitted tie downs to my truck.

by:

I bought these for our brand new 2019 GMC Sierra 1/2 ton because no custom options were available. I was happy that they were easy to install, and look great. I’ve used them in the past and have been happy with how they hold campers. Sure I’d rather have custom mounts from the frame, but for the price and because these are my only option that’s what I got. These will work just fine, and I like that I can swap these out on trucks.
The one thing I wish was different was that the threaded T handle portion would have a longer option. I had to fancy up a 2”x6” to run inside the side of my p/u bed so they would touch something.

As always another great shopping experience with etrailer. They haven’t let me down yet. Especially Lori, what a great customer service rep.

by:

These camper hold-downs appear to be manufactured from good steel stock and should do the job nicely. I did have one piece that was slightly damaged but was not caught when packaged (the damage was not due to shipping). I was able to take a hammer to the bent steel and straighten it sufficiently to use the part. It was a little disappointing however, and should have been caught prior to shipping.
Overall I am pleased with the quality and price

by:

Using on 2013 Ford F150 for a smaller cabover. Great quality product, shipped fast, works great. Had to turn bolts around to clear inside of bed. Held camper solidly over rough trails!

by:

These things are solid although i put duck tape on the T pads....installed 2014 Chevy Silverado 6.5 ft bed for 1200lb Starcraft.

Still have not moved! Great design and cost savings.

by:

Fits well on a First Gen Tundra. I was extremely unsure about fitment for my truck but they work great! Install only takes 5-10 minutes. I would definitely recommend. Steel is quite thick and seems very strong.

by:

Easy to install and have done what’s expected. Keep the camper in place!!

by:

ORDER ON TUESDAY RECIEVED ON FRIDAY NOON SAME WEEK ONLY PROBLEM WAS 4 7/ 16 NUT WERE 4 1/2 NUT HAD TO BUY 4 NUTS OTHER THEN THAT I WOULD BUY OFF ETRAILER AGAIN VERY GOOD SERVICE

by:

Arrived on a rainy day with the box falling apart. Too much heavy steel to be loosely packed. Fortunately, the hardware bag was still there. Some bare metal showing. I had some emails with MacKenzie B. and they were responsive and without asking they offered me a 5% refund for the damage. After my first trip, they performed well on some very bumpy roads. Held strong and didn't move. I did have to re-adjust the lower standoffs after the first week. Taking them on/off is frustrating because the 2 nuts are in the small gap behind the clamp against the inner bed wall. Too tight for all but an open end wrench. 1/6 turn times too many fumbling tries, arg! Also, I was nervous not having a locking feature (lock washer, locknut, etc). I bought 8 locknuts (pinch type) and welded them to the inner plate. Then bought 8 round head hex bolts (grade 8). So now I can install easily with an Allen socket. See pictures. Recommend eTrailer consider this modification.

After my mount bolt mod, Ive used these multiple times and they are working great! Very stout and no visible marks on my F250 bed.

by:

Found easy to install, I placed lock washers on the 8 3/8" bolts. Sold at Menards for 89 cents (pkg of 8) not in kit. Placement was a little restrictive with dealer installed bed liner. Takes 30 minutes to install all 4. Great buy.

by:

These tie downs were a great budget solution in leu of a permanent installation of my camper shell and/or frame mounted tie downs. Aside from needing to plan their placement (they can hang in front of the gas cap if you don't plan it right the first time around... no, I didn't accidentally block my gas cap... maybe I did) and take into consideration they also need a little bit of internal clearance as well, they work just fine. I haven't noticed any cargo shifting nor warping of the truck bed around where they are installed. My camper shell is under 1K lbs and it holds just fine.

A year later &amp they still hold strong.

Its a good product for a light camper. I personally would not use it on anything heavier than 1000lbs. But then iam not an engineer. I sold mine and my camper and bought frame mounted tie downs

Did not work for me. Tried to send them back but shipping would cost a bundle so i would get less than half of what i paid. Sold them same day on-line. Not good for a larger camper.

  • Will Camper Hold Down # HSSF Fit a 2011 Ford F-350
I went out to the warehouse and pulled a Camper Hold Down, # HSSF, to measure so you could compare the measurements to your truck to determine fit. The hold down will go around a bed rail that is no wider than 5 inches. The top part of the hold down is 6 inches wide while the bottom, more narrow part is 3 inches wide. The top 2 bolt holes are 3-5/8 inches apart on center. It has an overall height of 11-3/8 inches.

For that you'd need the # TLC2217 and # TLC3214 which is custom fit for your 2017 Chevy Silverado short bed without boards and a factory hitch. Then for turnbuckles you'd just need the part # TLS9529-2-LK for a set of stainless steel ones with locks integrated.
