Video Transcript for Review of TorkLift Camper Tie-Downs - Camper Stand Kit - TLA7010

Hello everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a look at this TorkLift Camper Packer Camper Stand Kit. Now, this kit here will let you easily and safely store your truck bed camper by using this kit to build a nice sturdy stand. You pair these supplied brackets and hardware with two by six size lumber, and it'll create two saw-horse-type supports. Now, the lumber is not included, you would have to supply that, but I just wanna pop up an insert and show you what these would look like once you add the lumber to it, gives you two saw-horse looking stands there. These campers will help support your truck bed camper when it's in storage.

What's nice about it, it prevents any camper frame damage, because it redistributes the stress up the four corners of your camper frame and onto the Camper Packer stand. This will help extend the life of your jacks by dramatically reducing wear and stress. Basically, what you'll do is place these two sturdy trestles beneath your camper, and it'll support its weight when it's removed from the truck bed. The weight capacity on these stands is gonna be 6,000 pounds per pair. This will give you a nice, safe, short, and long-term storage solution.

The kit will include everything shown here on the table, it includes these leg brackets with the pins and clips, it includes these foot plates with the chains and quick links, and then the hardware for attaching the lumber to the brackets. Now, we did mention the lumber's not included, the lumber that they require to put this together is a Grade 2 or higher Douglas Fir two by six size lumber. You do need two 50 inch long pieces, two by six pieces of wood, to create the support beams that will go on these parts here, and then you'll need eight 30 inch long two by six pieces of wood for the legs. I did wanna show you, here's an example of a two by six piece that you could use as a leg, and basically, the foot plate will attach here, you just drill a hole for this bolt to go through, and it'll attach to the leg just like that. The other end is what'll slide up into the stand lock right here, and then there's a hole in it, you'll use the hardware that's included to attach the leg just like that.

And then the other pieces, we mentioned the two 50 inch long two by six pieces, those are designed to go into this stands, right up here, these brackets. Basically, they'll go across like that, but what you'll do is take out these pins and clips, and then you'll drill the holes in here, drop this in place, run the pin and clips through the hole, pin it in place, and that'll hold it for you. And then what makes it easier, designed to fold up for compact storage, so it makes it pretty nice, because you just pull out your pin and clips, take your wood out, and then your legs will fold up, so you can store them away, the legs will stay attached. These are powder coated steel brackets to resist corrosion. Now, the dimension of each support when it's assembled with lumber, here's that insert again, is gonna be 30 inches tall, 50 inches wide.

Now, we do also sell this kit with the lumber that we just mentioned included, and that's part number TLA7012. But that should do it for the review on the TorkLift Camper Packer Camper Stand Kit..

Took about an hour to put everything together. Everything is working as it should. But like another has commented. Torklift really puts zero effort into their instruction manuals. I have both The tiedowns and the camper packer from torklift and both have really poor manuals. Granted it’s fairly simple. But still. Could do with some improvements. Other than that it’s worked for 24hrs as of now.

Nice, sturdy, but could be a bit longer as it's a close fit to put under trailer and about 1/4" on either side and starting to "Bend" at the edge so could be an inch longer on each side to help support it. Otherwise, works well but does need so work to set it up. Home Depot precut the wood and would add 2" (l" each side) to the cross beam. Truck camper, Arctic Fox 990

Product quality is excellent. Assembly instructions are not written well and the diagram and pictures are almost worthless. They should also add a note saying the legs do not need to be 30" long, but to adjust the length for your individual application. I took 10" off each leg so the first step of my camper is 8" off the ground vice 18".

Love them. It continues to do the job as designed and its portable.

With the addition of $27 worth of treated 2"x 6" lumber, my camper is very stable in storage. Torklift makes high quality stuff. Take the time to make the 22 degree cuts at the bottom of the vertical 2x6s, that way they fit really nicely into the feet.

Pop up is wintering nicely!

The brackets internal measurements for the a-frame (vertical) pieces are 5.78"x1.66", this makes for a very loose fit with 2x6 lumber because the actual dimensions of a 2x6 are 1.5x5.5. The camper is not stable side to side because of this loose fit. Using snug fit lumber might not even make it stable either. In the photos in the item description it looks like the lumber is snug. If they use special sized lumber for these brackets they need to make it very clear in the instructions and item description regarding the actual dimensions. I used 2x6 Con Com Redwood S4S Untreated Dimensional Lumber sealed with Thompsons water seal (shown in the video). I wish I had bought the McCoy tools sawhorse brackets instead they would have much better side to side stability and they are cheaper too, unfortunately they are not available right now. I am going to try installing a cross piece between the two a-frames to give it more stability.

I reached out to the manufacturer about your review on the camper stand kit. They advised that using Redwood versus Douglas Fir will lower the PSI of the week. The Redwood 2 x 6 is capable of 7,900 PSI while Douglas Fir is 12,400 PSI. They do want to see if you would send pictures and measurements so that they can make sure that the brackets were properly made.

by:

Expensive but after assembly and usage these are worth every penny.

by:

Solid stand and worth the money for the peace of mind it provides. I used PT wood so fitting the pieces was a bit more difficult since the PT lumber was swollen with the PT chemical. Still, it went together. All of the parts except for a lock washer were present. The bag that the nuts, bolts, washers, chains, etc. come in was ripped and the parts were spilled out in the box. The parts should still be bagged, but the bag needs to be put in a small box so it stays intact during shipping.

Product has been used and or stored outdoors for the past year and it is holding up well.

by:

Somewhat bulky for transport, but worth every bit of inconvenience for the peace of mind they provide! Really stabilizes our 11.6 Lance camper, even on gravel, like here on a gravel bar next to the Columbia River Oregon

by:

My family has been buying tork- lift parts for over 30 years my first purchase was frame mounted camper tie downs back in 1987 the camper stands i purchased are excellent holds my 11foot camper all winter with no problems

by:

Just wanted to let you know that when I received my package it was missing four pieces. Luckily all of these are easily found in the hardware store pieces but you should double check that orders are complete prior to shipping.
Also, the instructions are very difficult to follow. A video of assembly for your products accessible through online videos or some other video streaming service could be very useful.
Other than that it seems to be a very good product!

by:

Directions look like they are 30 years old and been copied a millions times. the camper still moves around like it is on the truck with no supports down. i was hoping for a more solid feel with the cost of these. it does make it where i can drive around once camp is set up and easier to store but anymore solid.

This product is more for storage and less for using while camping.

by:

Built well, it holds my Eagle Cap 1200 with no problem. The paint finish will chip a little, but no big deal.

by:

High quality kit, really impressed. etrailer got me the part really quick as well.

by:

Well engineered
Perfect package and

by:

The person who took my order over the phone was GREAT!

They put two products in one box, just throwing in the second product lose which was scratched as a result.

by:

Finally something rugged. The other products I've seen may be OK with a light camper, but I've got a fiberglass Bigfoot. This is the only sawhorse I'd use!

by:

The package you sent to me was missing several items required to complete assembly of the purchased item. I had to return the entire shipment and order it elsewhere.

by:

Poor quality control!! Items sent were missing a board and one was too short. Have to take valuable time to go 40 minutes to store to purchase correct items!!! I would appreciate some refund.

by:

Only 1 piece missing, minimal. Everything arrived without damage, even wood. Thought wood would be predrilled for that price. I was wrong. Still holding up truck camper without breaking, a large Lance 1172!! Trying to save my legs when I need them while camping, not in storage.

by:

Quality product. Great customer service. Fast shipping. I have a Lance 1172 sitting on these camper packer. Dry weight is about 4300 pounds. Stands up to what we put on them. Would recommend sel!er.

by:

Put about 90% of the weight on these. They handle it and 100% of the weight fine. Pricey, but took the advice of people who know wood. Definitely the right stuff, well made.

by:

I have ordered from trailer multiple times and have worked with the customer service line to solve problems, they have always been knowledgeable and helpful.
Great company!
