Today we're going to review part number 853-5834. This is the Thule replacement strap for the Thule bike racks with the stay-put cradles. This rubber strap will replace a lost or damaged strap on your Thule bike rack with the stay-put cradles. The model bike racks that have these stay-put cradles on them is the Thule Passage, the Roadway, the Parkway and the Hitching Post. We do, on our website for this part number, it does list the part numbers of those bike racks that this strap will work on. This will also fit the Thule no-sway cage, part number 7533530. This part is for a quantity of one strap.
As you can see, it does have the 8 holes and each one of those holes are at a 1 inch, center to center, measurement. The total length from tip to tip, I can put that on there for you, you an see it's going to be 9 3/8 inches. The diameter of the holes are half inch diameter in the holes. One last note on this strap, if your bike carrier has the previous square design hole strap, you will need to get Thule stay-put cradle for these round design straps to work. We do sell that on our website, and it's listed on this product page as a related product, part number 853-7887.

This rubber strap replaces a lost or damaged strap on your Thule bike carrier with Stay-Put cradles. Includes 1 strap.I purchased these as a replacement for other Thule straps which were 10 years old. The rubber had become a bit brittle and I was worried about potentially losing the bikes while on the road. You can see from the pictures that the original ones were shorter. Additionally they had square holes.
I was skeptical that the new ones (853-5834) with round holes would be interchangeable. But I could not find original on-line w/o paying $9 ea. And if they were actually 10 years old I could risk buying straps that while un used could be aged. The good news is that I was able to install the new straps on the original cradles. So YES I could get them to fit.
The only reason I did not indicate "excellent" is that the new ones are longer. Therefore, they have "extra" strap and it gets clumsy on the bike rack from the excess. But I suppose it is better than if they would have been too short.
I hope you find this useful, as we are talking about the only thing holding your valuable bike onto the bike rack. Good luck.

Still working well, used several times.
Although it is not a Thule rack the hold down straps work perfectly and cost a third of what the OEM straps did? Thanks E Trailer.
Excellent quality at a great price.The new straps have my old Road Gear rack operating like new again, and the delivery was right on time for a family road trip.
I had bought a new Thule Bike Rack but the anti sway straps were too short to fit my cervelo tri bike (with a wide carbon seat post). I bought two of theses older style Thule straps as they are longer and stretchier and do the job.
Etrailer carried the straps at the most competitive price with low cost shipping and also shipped the out very quickly.
Would buy from them again.

These Thule straps are still working extremely well to secure my Cervelo P3.
3 weakest link in the Thule 934XLT bike Rack. Total POS made to wear out I suspect mostly due to Ultra Violet rays. Then their are those whom will filtch'em and of course, the bastards just snap. Order extra's! Just part of the Thule experience you might say....

2 of ours snapped after hardly any use. We are nervous about these straps.
I have a 15 year old Rhode Gear two bicycle receiver hitch rack whose rubber fastening straps had seen better days. These were the PERFECT replacement both in length, hole size, hole spacing and thickness. Actually these were even better than the originals. And at a great price!

After one year...still great! No signs of wear, stretching or cracking of any kind and this is with frequent use.
We bought these for our RoadGear bike rack. they are just a little tight but maybe because the RoadGear ones were so stretched! We think they will work perfectly! So, don't hesitate to buy them for different racks! Great service and response to email questions.

The straps worked great until February 2015 when I purchased another vehicle that the carrier does not fit. : Now Im sad.
I was looking to replace the dry rotted straps on my older Rhode Gear bike carrier. Although NOT the OEM straps for the Rhode Gear bike carrier, they work just fine.

A year later the straps are doing good!
I've had my Thule bike rack for over five years, and, while the model has since been replaced, it's fantastic that etrailer offers OEM replacement parts for rubber and plastic pieces that naturally age and wear out. The anti-sway cradle and strap were direct replacements and fit perfectly. Easy to install and work perfectly. etrailer did a great job communicating the order's progress, and it was shipped the day I ordered. Great work!
The bike straps were exactly what I needed. They are for a Thule bike rack I also bought at etrailer. I couldn't be happier with the products and the service including shipment tracking. I would recommend etrailer to anyone interested in bike racks and accessories.
Thanks for the on-time delivery by mail of my Thule Revolver bike rack replacement parts. The 7-yr old rack is still in good condition, and new rubber straps and cradles make an easy refurbish. The parts are exactly the same as the originals they replaced. It is nice to have an expensive piece of equipment that is supported by parts distributors like your company (Thule now sells a new generation rack with different parts).
This is a component a frame strap on a bike rack. The parts are well designed, easily disassembled for different configurations, and work well for intended purpose.
Most of all, eTrailer is fantastic as usual. Great price and fast shipping. Bonus, if you have any issues, a live person answers the phone and a resolution comes in moments without pushback. If I need it, I check here first.
My husband & I love to go biking and have begun traveling distances to find new and interesting locations to explore on our bikes. The Thule bike rack is great and we have gotten a great deal of use out of it. When the straps started showing some wear and tear, I ordered some replacements and they came within days and were very affordable. It's nice to find an activity that is fun, healthy and does not break the bank to do.
Those seemed a bit smaller than those which came with the rack, but fit fine and did the job.
A great durable rack and only one of my original straps were broken in one hole, so if these last as long, I will be figuring out who to leave them to.

A good, reliable quality product as is the bike rack as well.Couldnt be more satisfied.
I added these high quality Thule bike cradles as replacements to cheap plastic ones that came mounted on my $30 non-Thule bike rack. The 1" pipe size was the same, making this retrofit an excellent solution to an annoying problem. The cheap plastic holders on the rack I purchased broke the first time I used them. These will last a lifetime and do a better job - Thule offers the anti-sway which no cheap rack includes. The straps are also great for sun and salt - they don't harden, crack, break, or rot.
Ordered the cradles and straps. Exactly as described. Much better than the old ones that were on my Thule bike rack. Shipped quickly and was advised via email of the status of the order. Would definitely do business with etrailer again. Great customer service.
I ordered these straps because they are supple and even though I'm using it on another brand of bike rack rather than the one for which they were made, they fit perfectly and are easy to use. They hold my bike securely in the cradles. I am beginning to have arthritis in my hands and fingers and the original straps on the rack were too stiff and unyielding for me to use. This is the 3rd set of straps I've ordered. I gave some to a friend who has the same brand rack I have and she found them easier to use yet held the bike securely, too. I also put them on the 5-bike rack my husband has. All three of the bike racks are able to hold 5 bikes so I have used the straps on all 3 even though all are different brands! They're great!
When I purchased my Thule bike rack, this was the exact item used to hold wheels to the frame. I had tried to order replacement straps for my Thule II bike rack from Amazon only to get the wrong kind from a third-party that is not being responsive with regard to returning them. They were twice as expensive as the straps I got from etrailer that are the right ones. Fast delivery, good price.
I have a outback 4 bike rack and after a number of years the straps that are attached to the cradle started coming off. After searching I ordered Thule stay put cradle and replacement strap and I am very happy with the quality of the product. It's exactly what comes on the Thule bike rack I had, sooo it doesnt get any better than that. These guys are rockstars at getting stuff to you is really why I wanted to review them. Basically had a strap fall off my rack, came on the site and ordered some straps and one of these bad boys, and same day they shipped it out. That was a friday. I got the box on monday. Killer!
I recently tried to find replacement straps for my Reece bike rack, but discovered the manufacturer no longer makes them. These are a bit longer and the holes fit pretty tight. All in all, they work fine. They are also a heavier quality strap so hoping to get plenty of use out of them. A good buy and reasonably priced. Only took a few days to get them.

It's just a perfect product.... I wasn't sure what kind of straps to order because my bike rack is an old model.. It's a rhode gear 4 bikes hitch rack and it's almost impossible to find replacements parts for this kind.. Hope pictures help you find out what part you're looking for.. I didn't regret.
