Video Transcript for Review of Reese M5 5th Wheel Hitch Replacement Head Asssembly - RP30892
Hello everybody. This is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a look at this replacement head assembly for the Reese M5 fifth wheel trailer hitches. Now this is a replacement hitch head it'll fit The Reese M five trailer hitches. This will work on the 20,000 pounds the 27,000 pounds and the 32,000 pound in five hitches. This hitch head uses a nice single piece job.
That'll wrap around the King pin to provide excellent Jada King pin contact gives you maximum security with less rattle and chucking. Now, one of the best features on the M five hitch is the jaw in this hitch head, and it's always ready to receive so you don't need to use the handle to open it before backing up towards your trailer. Basically, once you remove the pin and clip from the hole here that releases your handle then you're all ready to receive. You don't have to get out and pull the handle and move and Hoover it open to hook up right now you're all ready to go. You just jump in your truck back up to the hitch.
Now, as long as this pin and clip here is removed from the latching handle the jaw will accept the King pin as it enters the hitch. I wanted to show you, I got an example. Here's what a King pin would look like on your fifth wheel. So basically you can see right now when you go to back up the King pin will slide right in and it pushes that single drop open. And you can see once it gets all the way in there that y'all will come and wrap around and it hits a lever, your handle lines up with the hole and then you can take your pin and clip and drop it right through there clip it and that'll hold the handle in place.
You're all ready to go. Now the head itself is a fully articulating head. So when this is installed, it'll move front to back and side to side makes her quick, simple hookup even on unlevel ground. And the head will move in unison with the trailer during travel, to minimize any jarring. The hand over here that opens the jaw.
It's a nice ergonomic, easy to reach handle lets you secure your trailer to your hitch comes with the pin and clip. I mentioned that's tethered to it. Now the hole that the pinning clip goes through is large enough that if you want to extra security you could put a padlock through there. Now the padlock is not included but we do sell those separately on our website. Another feature on this is the tow and no tow indicator right here on the corner. Let me just zoom in. So get a better look at it. But right here on the corner of the hitch head you can see there's a toe or no toe indicator. And this is visible from inside the cab or from the side of your truck. And basically what that's telling you is if your hitch pin or your kingpin is in the hitch head correctly, right now you can see it's showing green. So that means it's in there. Good. You're ready to tow. If there wasn't it in there, it would show red which means it's not ready to tow. And this hitch head offers high pin lockout to ensure proper engagement. So basically the jaw has an internal plate that keeps the King pin from entering if it's too high to enter safely. So as a result, the King pin indicator will only change from red to green right here. If that King thing isn't fully engaged in the jaw like it is right now and it's showing green this is a nice sturdy steel construction has a durable black powder coat finish on it. The handle, the jaw is all zinc plated to resist corrosion. If you notice it does come with the two pins and clips and that's for securing the head to the hitch center section it'll just drop onto the center section and then two pins and clips go through there to hold it into place. Now this does require of course the hitch legs and the center section to make it a complete hitch. We do also sell those separately on our website. They're usually listed on this product page as a related product. And just to show you how to remove it how to disconnect from there, take out your pin and clip. And then I mentioned your handle's very easy to operate. All you do is pull it out and just rotate it. And it's fairly simple, only a couple of fingers and over rotate all the way to the back. And when you do that, then it'll add your trailer. As you pull away your vehicle it'll just pull the King pin right out of there. And then your handle goes right back into the ready to receive position. And you're all ready to go again, but that should do it for the review on the replacement head assembly for the Reese M5 fifth wheel trailer hitches..

Tried to install this on a 2001 Chevy Silverado 3500, dual rear wheel, long bed, 4x4, diesel engine truck. The clamp style mounting simply does not work. The ONLY way I can see this working is by drilling added holes in the frame of the truck at the front end of the side plates. This is because of a bend in the frame at the clamp location. Also at this location the frame is boxed in and any bolt holes will be hidden. Bolts would have to fished in with bolt wires.

Great product, shipped in really good time, etrailer was excellent in communication, only small problem was package was damaged in transit, and my item had some pretty bad scratches on it. But when I notified etrailer of this they gave me a choice of shipping it back in exchange for a new one or giving me a nice credit back if I could live with the scratches. I choose the latter and I thought it was great that they gave me the choice.

The order before I received this one, I do not understand why you would ship two products that would not work together although I ordered them wrong, with out letting me know before it was shipped. I didn't know that my order was wrong until I went to install it in my truck. It cost me time and money.
