Recommended 5th Wheel Hitch For A 2023 Ford F-250 Super Duty

Question:

I think I am getting a 2023 F250 6 3/4 ft bed without puck system. I have an F250 6 3/4 on order with the puck system, but getting a delivery date is impossible, I am going to give up and get a truck from dealer inventory. All of the dealer inventory trucks seem to have no puck system. I understand the only 2023 F250 5th wheel hitch you have is the BWRVK3400-5W using the BW83FR under bed installation. My trailer is a 2022 Grand Design 150 Reflection 295RL. It has an OEM Lippert Turning Point Trail Air kingpin. I was told do not get a slider hitch by Grand Design. Your website says this hitch is not for you if you have a rotating pinbox. On the phone I was told these will work fine together if I get a wedge. Perhaps they will in spite of all the warnings not to do this. My questions are: 1. Am I better off using the rotating kingpin with a wedge and this sliding hitch in spite of the warnings not to? 2. If I use the rotating kingpin and wedge, would I likely never use the slide feature of the hitch? 3. Or, wouldnt it be better to disable the rotating feature of the Turning Point kingpin which is the default installation on my trailer, use no wedge, and just rely on the sliding hitch to make any tight turns I need to make? 4. You are sure I cannot use a non-sliding Companion Hitch with the Lippert rotating kingpin and a wedge? 5. If in fact I can use a non-sliding hitch, which under bed installation kit would I use? Thanks for your help sorting this all out.

You can only have one pivoting point between the trailer and tow vehicle so that means you'll have to decide between a slider hitch and locking out the Turning Point or getting a fixed hitch and using the Turning Point as a rotating pin box. The Turning point pin box is going to offer you almost twice as much turning clearance without you having to get out of the truck and place the hitch into the maneuvering position each time. Since you already have the Turning Point on your trailer you'd just need a fixed hitch and wedge, which is overall cheaper than a slider hitch.

Fitment testing has slowed quite a bit by manufacturers since Covid so you're correct that there isn't much currently available, but I did confirm with Reese that their Reese Quick-Install Custom Installation Kit w/ Base Rails for 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches # RP50074-58 would be a compatible fit for your 2023 Ford F-250. Rotating pin boxes require 4-points of contact so a B&W Turnoverball hitch used with a Companion wouldn't be enough to handle the pressure the pin box is going to place on it and would eventually damage the receiving tube of the hitch. Without a puck system you'll be limited to above bed base rails.

For the hitch you can use the Reese M5 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # RP30928 along with a wedge like part # LC79UD if you no longer have the universal wedge that should've been included with your Turning Point. If you still have any other questions please feel free to submit another question and I'd be happy to help.
