Recommended 5th Wheel Rail Kit for a 1996 Chevy 3500HD Cab and Chassis
Question:
Hi Im looking for a hitch that would allow me to tow both gooseneck and 5th wheel trailers. Something like a rail kit with both attachments. I need it for a 1996 Chevy 3500HD commercial chassis. There is no bed on this truck, just a bare frame. I dont think a hitch for a regular 3500 will fit, but your vehicle or does not list the 3500HD as an option. Thanks

The cab and chassis frame is not the same as the regular 3500HD so there isn't going to be a custom kit. The frame is more narrow, so you will need to use a universal rail kit like the Reese Universal Base Rails and Installation Kit for 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches item # RP30035. You will want to center it about 1-3" in front of your axle.
To haul a gooseneck trailer, I recommend the Curt Spyder Gooseneck Trailer Hitch for Fifth Wheel Rails item # 16085. This will attach directly to the 5th wheel rails and provide you with a 25,000 lbs gooseneck ball.
For a compatible 5th wheel hitch, I also recommend the Reese M5 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch item # RP30928. This hitch will also attach directly to the Reese Universal Base Rails. It has a 20,000 lbs capacity.
