I did find it very difficult to put the second bike on if carrying luggage. Also would be better design if it could be used with or without the trailer. The bumpers easily tore. I would say if carry one bike it is a good sturdy rack.
Promising but room for improvement (potentially lots of improvement). First of all, my husband and I spent all day (5 hours) putting together the compatible FP4 slide out gear cage and then adding the rack it bike rack system. We got the cage assembled after much hassle because it was very tough to keep everything level and square. The directions were extremely poor. I’m adept at putting together items from instructions and my husband is incredibly mechanical and handy. I had to call him in for help and it was still an incredibly frustrating endeavor. Halfway through, I pulled another bag of bolts out that wasn’t on the inventory list (which I had inventoried meticulously before beginning the project). It was replacement parts to substitute back into the original instructions…all the way back to step 1. These replacement instructions were also terrible, but I wasn’t surprised by this time since that was pretty standard. Once the cage was together, we had to disassemble once more to attach the rack it. I had read these instructions first before putting toghether the gear cage but this wasn’t clear that it would have to come apart in quite this manner. Again, another setback. Ultimately, after it was together, I was optimistic again that it would work. It was pretty easy to load the bikes and less frustrating than the two horizontal arm traditional bike rack model that I have used in the past. The great news was that I didn’t have to add bars to the female bikes and I like the style of attaching the bikes. We used it with a tire biter model to hold a total of 4 bikes, and I see that I can add another rack it to the front of the gear cage to hold 6 total bikes with my setup. That’s promising. However, the gear cage rocks over back roads and it acts like a whip. The y-tube that attaches the rack to the cage rocks viciously and I’m concerned it will snap at the weld or bend the hitch pin. I will be calling the company about ways to sure this up and stabilize. Because it’s very disconcerting.
