Video Transcript for Review of Dexter Axle Trailer Leaf Spring Suspension - Replacement Equalizers - K71-654-00

Hello everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a look at the replacement 5 5/8 inch equalizers for the Dexter Axle E-Z Flex Heavy-Duty Rubber Suspension System. Now, these parts here will replace a damaged or worn out rubber equalizer on your Dexter E-Z Flex Heavy-Duty Rubber Suspension System. That system we do sell separately on our website, and it's part number K71-652-00. As you can see, this is for a quantity of two replacement equalizers, the bolts, the nuts, and some grease packets. Now, the rubber cores on these will isolate and absorb any damage and road shocks before they hit the trailer frame and the contents.

If you noticed on the very top of these, there's two grease zerk fittings that allow for easy lubrication of your bolt through here, you just attach your grease gun to there and pump the grease in there. And these are very easy installation, there's no welding, cutting, or grinding required. Capacity again, this is for tandem axle applications up to 6,000 pound axles with 33 inch spacing. This does replace the Dexter standard equalizer, which is part number 13-104, and just to give you a few measurements on these, if we take our ruler and if we measure from the center of this bolt eye to the center of the other one is about 5 5/8 inches, and it does have a range, since there's a rubber insert in there, it'll allow this to have a range of a minimum from 5 1/4 inches up to 6 1/4 inches. And then the last measurement, we're gonna measure from this center of this top bolt hole to the center of these two lower bolt holes, so if we do go on that, you can see it's gonna be right at about two inches.

But that should do it for the review on the replacement 5 5/8 inch equalizers for your Dexter Axle E-Z Flex Heavy-Duty Rubber Suspension System..

I’m totally satisfied with these equalizers. I installed these and a set of Roadmaster Comfort Ride Shock Absorbers to my travel trailer because I was worried that something was going to get broken on my trailer because of the harsh ride it was going through on the rough roads we drive on. I knew the ride was harsh when I was opening the trailer door and finding everything that wasn’t attached turned upside down or on the opposite end of the trailer and some attached items torn loose. On one trip the fire extinguisher screws came out of the wall, another trip the screws holding the dinette seat back to the wall came out, and also the smoke detector came off of the ceiling and was lying in the floor. I knew I had to do something to help the ride. I ordered these parts from Etrailer and installed them and I was amazed at how well they worked. On our next trip I opened the door on the trailer and everything was still in its place, I could hardly believe it, what a difference. As an added bonus these parts took away the little bit of sway the trailer had. The sway when a tractor trailer rig passed us is completely gone now. It pulls so good now that I forget it is back there sometimes. I highly recommend this to anyone with a bumper pull travel trailer.

It is still working great. I do not regret putting on these items , they have worked well for us.

by:

I put these on my tandem axle boat trailer, they arrived in 3 days and appear to be very good quality. The 5 year warranty tells me I shouldn't have any issues.

by:

Install when according to plan. Fairly straightforward.

by:

Pending road test, but seem to be very good quality and it is nice they are can be greased for longer life. On my application I went from a 4" high equalizer high link to this (2" high), but welded an extension on the trailer frame to maintain the prior spring/suspension geometry, but I don't think it is required, I primarily did this as my other frame upgrades would have interfered with the grease fittings, so the 2" extensions gave needed clearance in my application.

by:

They are doing well for us. Only issue was after installation and a trip when I went to grease the pivot points, one of the zero fittings came off. Looks like the hole was never tapped completely. Just a few threads in the beginning. I ran a tap in it and installed a new zero fitting. This would have much easier before installation.

by:

Easy install and makes the trailer ride noticeably smoother.

by:

They were easy to install, and have worked like a charm. We would recommend these to anyone looking!

by:

I worked with William over the phone and was able to order the correct part. It arrived yesterday and it is the right part for my RV. Great quality, seems like a fair price and great customer service by William B.

by:

I got exactly what I needed for a fair price and received it in a very timely manner.

by:

They sent what I ordered and it arrived before I even arrived at the delivery before bI got there.

Ordering was easy and the product got here four days earlier that expected.

See what our Experts say about this Dexter Trailer Leaf Spring Suspension

  • Is there a Lifespan for the Rubber Bushings in E-Z Flex Heavy Duty Rubber Suspension Systems
Like most things, the longevity of the rubber bushings in the E-Z Flex Heavy Duty Rubber Suspension System depends on numerous factors including, but not limited to, how much the trailer is used and the weather conditions. But they should last a very long time in most situations if not the entire life of the trailer. If you can compress the bushings by hand then they are worn out and should be replaced. Severe dry rot is also something to check for. It would have to be really bad dry rot...

Replacement equalizers # K71-654-00 are only part of what you would need. These equalizers require special shackle straps that are available in the kit which is what you would need. The kit is # K71-652-00. It comes with all the parts needed to upgrade the equalizers to a Dexter E-Z Flex system. Whether or not your axles are underrated for the trailer I cannot say for sure. There are several different 2004 Gulf Stream Ameri-Lite models, both 5th wheels and travel trailers, so if you can...

The equalizers in the kits # K71-652-00 and # K71-654-00 that you referenced are actually the exact same. The only difference between these kits is that the 652 comes with replacement shackle straps while the 654 only comes with the equalizers and no shackle straps. So to choose between the 2 is just a matter of your shackles being in good shape or not. Even though your axle spacing is 32" as opposed to 33" I think you'll still be okay with this kit. Basically you just want to make sure...

The Replacement 5-5/8" Equalizers for E-Z Flex Heavy Duty Rubber Suspension System # K71-654-00 you referenced are simply replacements for the E-Z Flex Heavy Duty Rubber Suspension System by Dexter Axle - 5-5/8" Equalizers # K71-652-00. If you had originally put on just the equalizers # K71-654-00 and not the kit # K71-652-00 then that could be part of the problem you had. The E-Z Flex systems use special shackle straps and wet bolts. Considering the damage that was done it is possible that there is unseen damage to the system or that the same thing could happen on the other side. I recommend replacing the whole thing with a new kit. That way you will get all the parts you need and they will be all new parts so you're...

It is really difficult to say how long the E-Z Flex Heavy Duty Rubber Suspension System by Dexter Axle - 5-5/8" Equalizers, # K71-652-00, will last. The diameter of your trailer axle will determine the size of the parts that you will need to order.
