Dexter E_Z Flex Equalizer Upgrade for a 2004 Gulf Stream Ameri-Lite Camper

Question:

Last year I installed Dexter Axle Suspension Kit K71-359-00 onto my 1 3/4 inch tandem axles on my 2004 Amerilite camper, that kit fit perfectly. I now wish to add an E-Z Flex kit. Is kit #K71-654-00 the correct kit? My Equalizers do measure 5 5/8 inches between the bolt holes. Second question about something I am merely thinking about: Is it at all practical to upgrade the entire tandem axle/suspension system on a camper trailer that has 1 3/4 inch axles and 13 inch wheels. My camper is a 2004 Gulfstream Amerilite 21MB and currently has Dexter 10A axles 3000lbs each per Dexter. I feel that the current suspension is almost maxed out before I even load supplies for a long road trip. Is an upgrade typically cost worthy or is it best to merely try to upgrade to a better quality camper? Your advice is appreciated....

Replacement equalizers # K71-654-00 are only part of what you would need. These equalizers require special shackle straps that are available in the kit which is what you would need. The kit is # K71-652-00. It comes with all the parts needed to upgrade the equalizers to a Dexter E-Z Flex system.

Whether or not your axles are underrated for the trailer I cannot say for sure. There are several different 2004 Gulf Stream Ameri-Lite models, both 5th wheels and travel trailers, so if you can tell me which specific model you have I can determine if two 3,000 pound axles are adequate.

Also, many trailer manufacturers subtract the tongue weight from the gross trailer weight since the tow vehicle is carrying the tongue weight. This can make it seem like the axles are underrated when they are not. If you do decide to upgrade you would need the axles, suspension, wheels and tires, and the running gear to all be upgraded to the higher capacity.
