Today we're going to take a look at the Dexter 12 and a quarter inch right hand passenger side self-adjusting hydraulic drum brake assembly for 15000 pound axles. Now, hydraulic drum brake assemblies are designed for use with surge type trailer brake actuators. This one happens to be a duo server which is dual plunger design, delivers the same amount of braking when your driving either forward or in reverse. This also is a self-adjusting brake and you can tell that by when you look at the brake. You'll see a cable, goes around the pulley, attaches for the lever down here that'll automatically adjust the brakes. Self-adjusting brakes will automatically adjust to deliver optimum performance and braking power.

There is no need for manual brake adjustments of this assembly. What's nice is proper adjustment will lead to better efficiency and less wear on your tow vehicle brakes. A few specs on this, the diameter is 12 and quarter inches. The width is five inches. Where that's measured, the diameter, would be from this brake shoe all the way over to this one. So, if we put the ruler on it, there's your 12 and a quarter inch diameter. The width, again, is the width of the brake pad on the shoe.

So, five inches wide. There's your five inch wide. Now this does have a brake mounting flange bolt pattern of seven holes, you can see the seven bolt holes here. This does require the use of 12 and a quarter inch brake drums. Now the wheel size that'll fit on this assembly is 15 inches and larger. The axle it's designed for is a 15000 pound axle.

Now this one is a right hand passenger side and I wanted to show you just how you can tell that. Now, on a new one of course, there'll be a sticker that'll tell you that but if that sticker wasn't there, the easiest way to tell is to look at the length of the pad on the shoes. This pad goes from here all the way to here. This one's just from here to here. This is the shorter pad. Shorter pad is always your primary shoe and that'll face the front of the trailer. So, that tells you that this goes on the right hand passenger side of the trailer.
