Bias Tires vs. Radial Tires

Bias vs. radial tire graphic

Bias ply tires are designed for off-road or agricultural applications. They are built with thick, durable nylon cords that are positioned at a 30- to 45-degree angle to the direction of travel. The layers alternate in a crisscross pattern, making the sidewalls stiffer so that the entire tire is able to flex easily. As a result, the tire provides a smooth ride and improved handling when trailering on uneven surfaces.

I haven’t mounted them on my trailer but I’m concerned about quality control . Two are identical . The third seems to be narrower along the inside wall and won’t stand on its own like the other two .

Hi Gene, Thanks for your feedback! Sometimes tires will look skinnier after being stacked up in the warehouse. Once they are mounted and set at the correct air pressure it will perform as it should.

Tires on my camper have been good. I did have one blow out, but I thought the service I got to have it replaced was great. Of course I have no way of knowing what caused the blowout, but it was replaced no problem and I appreciate that. Thank you

by:

Tires came in squashed tire shop had a hard time inflating them

by:

These tires are great. I replaced the car tires that were on my utility trailer when I bought it and the trailer seems to tow much better and can now handle the weight of a load of wood much easier with the stiffer sidewalls.
Had them mounted and balanced at a local tire shop which is most likely why the trailer tows better.
I would definitely go with these again.

Need a tire for my boat trailer what I can't find around, but sure enough I found it 1000 miles away. Came 1 day earlier, very happy with there service.A ++++

by:

AWESOME Tires, the only tires I use on all my personal vintage trailers as well as Client Restorations that come through our shop! Whether it is a fully restored museum piece or a trailer we are rescuing from cross country, these are the tires of our choice!!

by:

Just what I ordered

by:

This tire is just what I needed, I purchased my car trailer several years earlier and it did not come with a spare tire & wheel. Worried me some early on about being on the road having a vehicle on the trailer and having tire trouble especially since the tire size could be difficult to find at a lot of tire stores. I feel a lot safer now having a spare for my car trailer. Having a spare tire and wheel for my trailer, takes the worry out of being on the road miles from anyplace I could have found what I needed.

by:

Tires weren’t stored very well. Looks like they had something very heavy on them for some time and deformed them. They will be very difficult to mount or might not mount at all. Getting the bead to set will be very difficult.

by:

This is an excellent company and product. The tires were shipped ASAP and came as ordered in a couple of days. They look "outstanding" on my 1972 camper, priced very well and with great service!!

Thank you,

John

by:

Quick and easy order, fast delivery

by:

I was disappointed in the condition of the tire when it arrived. The tire was squashed down and so out of shape I had a hard time getting air in it. It was like something very heavy had sat on top for it for a long time. I hope it holds the air.

by:

This tire came with my new trailer. It has outlasted all other brands of tires I have had on my trailers.

These tires last longer than other trailer tires I have put on my trailer. But still why do any of them have to wear out? :

by:

ordered online with no problems. delivered promptly. Good product

by:

Good tire for the price point. I put them on a 20 yr old trailer. The rim was really nice for the price. I blew out a tire towing my ATV back from a hunting trip, which was why I ordered the tires and rim. Rim fits my old trailer good will be ordering another.

Fast shipping. I have ordered from E trailer in the past and they are very good. I got a 20K reese 5th wheel hitch and bed rails last time. I highly recommend them . My buddy uses them also for his boat trailer parts Ed

by:

Easy transaction

by:

Ordered five trailer tires in load range D. I was excited to receive them promptly from etrailer through UPS and glad to report that etrailer was the only source that I could find to carry the desired quality of tire I was looking for. Thanks again to etrailer.com

by:

I have used dias belted tires on my 31 ft travel trailer for several years. Have never had one single problem. In fact I plan to purchase more.

by:

etrailer.com by far has the best customer service I have ever dealt with! As always my tires arrived just two days after I placed the order. Absolutely amazing! The value is incredible too. Best price I found and free shipping to boot! I will continue to make etrailer the first and only stop for all of my trailer needs.

by:

High quality tire. Had it mounted to the new wheel. I now have a good spare for my trailer again. Great service from etrailer as usual. Thanks!

by:

Good piece of mind to have these heavy duty tires on my car carrying tandem. I overload it to haul my little dozer and these tires are mighty.

by:

Fast shipping as always. Haven’t pulled the trailer yet with them, but all reviews on here suggested these tires are a dream

by:

Good Price Great Service!

by:

I bought a wheel and tire for a spare for my car trailer, could not ask for a better price or service and really fast shipping. Thanks etrailer.

  • What Size Wheels Work with ST225/75-15 Trailer Tires
Trailer tire size ST225/75-15 will fit on 15x6, 15x6-1/2, or 15x7 inch wheels. The most common size and what we carry is a 15x6 inch wheel. These wheels come in several different bolt patterns. The most common is either a 5 on 4-1/2 or 6 on 5-1/2. I have linked an article that shows how to measure for bolt pattern. I have also linked all of the 15x6 inch wheels for you.

  • Troubleshooting Trailer Tire Wear on Outer Tread
The first and easiest thing to check is to make sure the tire is inflated properly. If the tire is under-inflated, the sides of the tire tread will wear quickly. The recommended psi should be listed on the sidewall of the tire. It is odd that your tire is wearing on the outer portion of the tread. When abnormal tire wear is a problem, it is more common on the center tread or inner tread caused by over inflation and overloading. If your tires are inflated properly or you continue to have...

  • How Many Plies are in an 8 Ply Rated Bias Trailer Tire 225/75D15 # AM1ST96
Sometimes the number of plies is indicated on the tire sidewall. in this case, the only ply information that is on this tire is that it has an 8 ply rating and that they are nylon. because of the strength of today's materials, there may not be 8 plies. This is because the materials used today can carry more weight and less plies are needed. The ply count does not actually matter. You want to go by the load capacity of a tire. For # AM1ST96 the capacity is 2,540 pounds at 65 psi. Trailer...

  • What Are The Alpha-Numerical Codes On ST Tires?
No. The 117/112 is not the psi. It is the load index. The L is the speed rating of 75 mph. The load index is the rated load capacity for single and then dual tires on each side of the axle. 117=2833 lbs. The maximum psi should be listed on the tire sidewall and is also the recommended psi for the tires to operate. For instance the Loadstar ST225/75D15 Bias Trailer Tire - Load Range D # AM1ST96 is similiar and rated for 65 psi max.

  • Can 235/80-16 Size Tire with 80 psi on Sidewall be Run at 70 psi Instead
When it comes to trailer tires you always need to have them filled to the psi rating found on the sidewall. Your 235/80-16 size tire, like part # LHWL401 on our site, has been tested for the specific weight capacity and speed rating at 80 psi and anything that is higher or lower will mean that the weight capacity and speed ratings are unknown. This can result in blowouts and premature wear on your tires. Unless Les Schwab has a special reason, and they have verified from the manufacturer...

Completely understandable, although I will say that's very unusual for the Loadstar ST225/75D15 Bias Trailer Tire # AM1ST96 since the Kenda brand is a very reliable brand. If you're still within the warranty time-frame I do recommend pursuing that first, but if not then you can either replace it with the same tire knowing that the pin holes won't be present in a replacement, or you can go with this tire instead: - Provider ST225/75R15 Radial Trailer Tire - Load Range E # TR225LRE The...

  • Replacement Trailer Tires for Boat Trailer with Tire Size P215/75R15
You don't have much fender clearance currently so I would go with the smaller tire size of 205/75-15 as it will work well and also not cause fender issues. The big difference between this size and the 225/75 size is the outer diameter. The 205 is 27.1 inches overall and the 225 is 28.4 inches. In the tire size you need the # TR20515D would be your best option. This is a Taskmaster Provider trailer tire with speed rating of 81 mph that would work great on your boat trailer. Your current...

Size 7.00-15 is actually a currently used tire size. It is a light truck tire. Light truck tires are sometimes used on RVs and trailers (as long as the LT is at the end of the size). It is a bias ply tire. It is rated for 2,402 pounds at 70 psi. The overall diameter is 29.4 inches and the width is 7.8 inches. It fits 15" x 5", 15" x 5-1/2", 15" x 6" rims. • What is the Speed Rating of Kenda ST225/75-15 Trailer Tires and are Radials Rated for Higher Speeds
The trailer tires that we carry including # AM1ST96 are rated for up to 65 miles per hour. Bias ply tires and radials are rated the same. If anything a radial would have a higher speed rating because they track better and run cooler than bias ply tires. But it doesn't matter in this case because both types are rated for a maximum of 65 miles per hour.

Good question; the Loadstar ST225/75D15 Bias Trailer Tire - Load Range D # AM1ST96 is a tubeless tire, and that is the norm for trailer tires now. Bias tires don't require a tube, and even though some people still use them, we do not recommend it because it can cause the tire to overheat if towed at any type of speed.
