Bias Tires vs. Radial Tires

Bias vs. radial tire graphic

Bias ply tires are designed for off-road or agricultural applications. They are built with thick, durable nylon cords that are positioned at a 30- to 45-degree angle to the direction of travel. The layers alternate in a crisscross pattern, making the sidewalls stiffer so that the entire tire is able to flex easily. As a result, the tire provides a smooth ride and improved handling when trailering on uneven surfaces.

Robert

They have plenty of tread and still pull nice and smooth. These things last

by:

So far so good holding up well after a year or so. Just an fyi if you get tires from e-trailer they compressed don't be worried set in the sun and they will pop back in shape.

by:

Tires were an exact replacement for tires on my Load Rite utility trailer. I wanted to replace since the tires were roughly 8 years old, but still very serviceable and had a lot of life. I was being proactive in prelacing. Delivery time was as communicated and tires were installed with no issues.

by:

This is the place to go for all your trailer needs. My set of 4 tires was shipped almost immediately after ordering and they came in quickly with no hassle. I would highly recommend Etrailer for sure. Great folks to do business with!

by:

So far I like the tires. But I will not get them on my machine until spring! The price is great I do have the same tires on my trailer. But I paid much more!!! This is my Bobcat 530 I will be putting the tires on it I see other guys with 205/75/15 on theirs too! Maybe I won't tear the grass. Make the wife happy!!!!

by:

These tires have been great so far after having them for 1 year so far. I will be buying another set of these before to long to replace the other 2 tires on my trailer that have been worn out due to a bent axle. The first set of 2 of these tires I bought to repla my really worn out tires that went bad to a really really badly bent axle on my trailer. Replaced the axle and these two tires and it's been a great buy so far.

by:

Excellent tire! This makes 6 total ordered. 2 spares and 4 on the enclosed trailer.

by:

Super fast shipping , got correct parts , what's not to like !!!

David

4/22/2024

It is a spare for the trailer and hasnt been on the ground.Stoll holding air .

by:

Tire and wheel were exactly what I needed. Mounted up easily. Product shipped early and was in perfect condition when it arrived. Best buying experience I’ve had in a long time! Customer service rep was knowledgeable and friendly.

by:

A bent axle burned thru the tire this replaced. Seems to be a good match for OEM. Only have a couple hundred miles on the replacement tire so can’t give estimate of mileage it will give. No flats or problems

by:

Good looking tire
Plenty of rubber
See
how they hold up this spring, traveling from south Texas to northern Minnesota

by:

Little disappointed on how tires where shipped in box and crushed

I am sorry that the tires were smooshed. Based on the picture I say that they will still work for you, however if you do need assistance with them, please let us know.

This is our repurposed 1959 travel trailer bar. We wanted to keep as much vintage charm as possible in her revocation. These brand new tires, wheels, and baby moon caps really brought the look together! Great products! Great prices! Great customer service! I will highly recommend you guys, and will do business in the future with this company!

Thank you very much!!

Ordered two 15 inch tires. Both boxes were labeled as 15 inch but one actually contained a 14 inch tire. Contacted customer service and waiting on reply.

Man, so close yet so far! Thank you for letting us know. I see our customer service team has been in touch and has you set up to have the correct tire sent out!

by:

Received order in about a week. etrailer even made price adjustment due to price drop on this tire after order date. Good fit after install. Same tire used by utility trailer mfg. —still in good shape after 11 yrs, replaced due to age of original tires.

by:

Superb quick and accurate

by:

The tires themselves are fine. But the way they are shipped is very strange (and this made mounting them extremely difficult). We ended up having to leave them out in the sun for awhile to warm up (to get the rubber would be more malleable) so we could finally mount them.

Etrailer Expert

Jenny N.

When the tires are shipped to us they are compressed together to save space. You already did what we would suggested by allowing the tire to warm up in the sun to make it easier to work with and install on the rim.

by:

Was able to match same tire and wheel to existing on new trailer I purchased. With the great descriptions and photos on etrailer's website I was confidant my purchase would match and they did.

by:

very happy with the wheels and tires i purchased for my trailer. fast shipping was a bonus thks Etrailer.

by:

Wow. Delivery on took 24 hours. Awesome customer service

by:

  • Difference Between ST205/75D15 and ST205/75R15 Size Tires
The difference between a D15 tire and an R15 tire is the construction. The D denotes that it's a bias tire and the R is for a radial tire. Which is best for you depends on the type of terrain you're towing the trailer on because bias tires have a thicker sidewall making them better for off-road travel where radials run cooler and have better ground contact making them ideal for highway use. Among our selection if you're going with a bias tire I recommend Kenda # AM1ST92. It's the same...

Your 7.00-15 tires are on their last leg. I don't recommend using cracked tires as they can blowout without any further notice. For a durable and cost efficient replacement, I recommend the Taskmaster ST205/75D15 Bias Trailer Tire - Load Range C # TTWSF20515C which will fit on your current wheels. They have a 6 ply rating and have a max load of 1,820 lbs at 50 psi. They have a 2 year warranty and will serve your needs. These will fit wheels 15" x 5", 15" x 5-1/2", 15" x 6", and 15"...

  • Troubleshooting Inside Sidewall Premature Wear on Tandem Axle Utility Trailer Tires
The axles on your trailer should not be sliding side to side enough for you to notice. There may be the slightest of side to side motion due to the various suspension components, but the majority of the motion will be up and down. If your axles are moving side to side enough that you notice then you need to get your trailer to a shop as soon as possible and get your suspension checked out. If the inside sidewall of your tires are wearing down quicker than the rest of your tires then your...

  • What Causes One Trailer Tire To Wear Faster Than the Others On a Tandem Axle Trailer
There are a number of issues that can cause irregular tire wear but generally this would be the tire wearing more on one side, not necessarily that the entire tire has worn faster than the others. If the latter is true then this could be an issue with the amount of air you have in each tire or the way the trailer is loaded perhaps. If you were using a different type of tire such as one with a different ply or load range then that could cause this issue as well. That said, it's rather...

  • Why Does One Trailer Tire Wear More in the Middle than the Others
It looks like the center of the tire has worn faster than the outer edges which is a tell tale sign that it has been overinflated or it is a different load range than the rest. If the leaf spring was worn more so for that particular side of the axle then this could be an issue as well but I would be willing to bet it was overinflated. If you can let me know what size tires are on your trailer I would be happy to make some recommendations but if not I have attached a list of our options...

  • Recommending Trailer Tires with a C Load Rating for 2015 Keystone Hideout
It is possible to replace your OEM tires and wheels as long as the wheel's bolt pattern matches and you have room for the larger tires in the wheel wells; to help with this I have attached an article on determining bolt pattern for you. If this criteria is met, the tire I recommend with the specs you are looking for is the Loadstar ST205/75D15 Bias Trailer Tire, # AM1ST92. This tire is six-ply rated, has a C load-range rating and a maximum load capacity of 1,820 lbs at 50 psi. These tires...

  • Excessive Wear on Inner and Outer Edges of Tires that are Not Under Inflated
Having the center of the tire tread wear more than the edges is typically a sign that the tires have been over inflated. Since you've mentioned that the tires are correctly inflated, we'll need to look elsewhere. This can also be caused by the tires being overloaded, but it's more likely been caused by worn suspension components. Make sure all the hardware on your suspension is still tight. Take a look at the shackle straps, the holes that the bolts pass through should be round, not elliptical...

You can absolutely change to an ST205/75R14 tire that has a Load Range D, such as the excellent Westlake Radial Trailer Tire # 274-000012, on your trailer. This tire will have a maximum load of 2,040 pounds at 65 psi like you mentioned. The higher load range tire will fit your existing wheel without causing any harm to it or the trailer. You will just want to make sure that the valve stem on your wheels are rated for up to 65 psi, which they most likely are. I have attached a short video...

For a ST205/75D15 tire the Kenda Loadstar Bias Trailer Tire # AM1ST92 will work great and fit the Dexter wheel perfectly. • After How Many Years Should Trailer Tires Be Replaced
Even when stored in the somewhat controlled environment of a garage, tires are still subject to dry rot and flat spotting. Even if the tire tread has plenty of depth left and you can't see any cracking with the naked eye, the generally accepted rule of thumb states that trailer tires should be replaced after about 6 or 7 years. Yours are about twice that age. I'd highly recommend you replace the tires. I'd recommend going with a 205/75R-15 tires in load range C like part # TTWTRTM2057515C....

  • Troubleshooting Uneven Tire Wear On Trailer
Typically, when a tire displays excessive wear on the inside of the tread (closest to the trailer), it means that the trailer is consistently being overloaded. When the trailer carries more weight than the axle is rated for, the trailer wheels can bow as shown in the diagram I provided. Broken or excessively worn suspension components can cause this as well. Examine the components like the leaf springs and shackle links and replace if necessary. You will also want to make sure that your...

  • What Might Cause Trailer Tire Wear Only On Outside of Passenger Side
It sounds like an issue with either the spindle or the axle of the trailer. Your best option will be to find a local shop that can do trailer alignments and let them take a look at it. It's possible the trailer could have been ran up against a curb on the right side of the trailer which could have bent something. Another possibility is the suspension being damaged by something similar.

Any given tire will fit a range of wheel widths but that doesn't mean they all will carry the same rating. To achieve the maximum capacity of a given tire the wheel will need to meet or exceed the tire's capacity. Also, for any given tire size there are different load ranges with different capacities. For example tire # AM1ST92 is also a 205/75-15 but it is a load range C (whereas the one above is a load range D) and it is rated for 1,820 pounds. With a couple of exceptions, 15x5 inch...

You should not have an issue installing a ST205/75R15 Radial Trailer Tire # AM10245 in place of a ST205/75D15 Bias Trailer Tire # AM1ST92. You will want to verify you do have a compatible wheel size to ensure there are no fitment issues. These particular tires will both fit a 15" wheel with a width of 5" to 6-1/2". Cupping is usually caused by a bad alignment or suspension that is worn out and bouncing its way down the highway. The solution is to inflate the tires to the maximum pressure listed on the sidewall in this situation.
