Radial Tires vs. Bias Tires

Radial tire vs bias tire graphic

Radial ply tires are designed for trailers that are towed on the highway. The cords on a radial tire are positioned at a 90-degree angle to the direction of travel so that they lay across the width of the tire from wheel lip to wheel lip. This construction prevents the cords from rubbing against one another when the tire flexes, unlike the cords on a bias ply tire. As a result, radial tires have less rolling resistance and heat buildup, which leads to a longer tread life and improved steering at higher speeds.

Very easy to install, unlike some trailer tires. Good quality and has held up great. Got rid of any sway that it has.

by:

Great tire. It came really fast. They keep u informed through the whole process so u kno where ur product is at. I have yet to mount them but I think they will do great.

by:

Great tires! Here they are mounted and doing work carrying the Honda Challenge S2000 Race Car.

by:

They were packaged well, took them to the local tire store that remarked on the quality 8 ply :) . Mounted and left with a smile. This is my 3rd order from ETrailer. for 3 different vehicles. Can I call 2 trailers and a hitch that?
Great service, stuff, packaging..... Bill T.

by:

I expected the tire to be mounted to the rim. Had I known it wouldn’t be, I would have just take the rim to the local tire shop and bought a tire there

by:

Looks to be a good quality tire. I just received them yesterday and had them mounted. Time will tell more about the quality. Fast shipping, well packaged and great service from Etrailer. Thanks!

by:

Very economical choice to step up to a load range D tire.
I had no luck locally finding a decent tire under $100ea so on a whim I checked etrailer. I bought (7) with free shipping and the tire quality looks good.
I knocked off one star because dealing with the staples in the shipping boxes is a PITA and must be removed to recycle.

These have worn great and we have put almost 20k miles on this trailer this year with almost no noticeable wear and zero air loss

by:

Bought this as a spare tire for a 16ft. car trailer. Won't know about tread life cause it is for spare use only. Seems like good quality 8 ply and beads sealed with a nice pop on new Vesper rim easily. Tire says 2200lbs. load for single axle on @ 65 psi and that's what I needed.

by:

Order process went perfect I was updated on order status tires arrived very quick 3 days

We have had no issues the tires are performing very well. They have over 2000 miles on them no uneven wear

by:

Tires and wheels came FAST! I was surprised!

Got these mounted/balanced this weekend and installed them myself yesterday, as I had to go over all the bearings, repack with fresh grease, check the hubs, etc. They look sharp! The real test will be how they do on the road going down to Mexico later this month. They seem like a good solid load range D tire, but will report back after I get some miles on them and see how they hold up.

Purchased the galvanized wheels from etrailer as well. The tire shop that mounted/balanced cautioned me on one of the rims about a weld that was a bit iffy to them -- they checked them all as they were mounting. It didn't seem too bad to me, but I'm not a professional.

by:

Product was exactly what I wanted. The shipping information page lacked a second line to add the lot number. So I entered the number next to the address. The system would not accept this format and removed the lot number. I assumed UPS would deliver to our main post office with the missing lot number. Using the UPS tracking link, I found that it was waiting locally on additional address info. However etrailer tracking history did not state this request. I received the tire late Friday night. I took the tire to the site etrailer recommended in my area. It was 28 miles away. When I checked with the front desk, they stated we do not have mechanics on Saturday. Leave the tire and come back on Monday. So now I will need travel another 56 miles to pick up the tire.

by:

This will be put on an older rim to be used as the spare on my trailer. Looks like a great tire, and the price was reasonable. (Having a spare is almost priceless in of itself when you have a flat on your trailer while traveling !!)

by:

I bout the D rated load range tires. Was an easy decision for a little peace of mind while towing my single axle trailer.

by:

Just received them and they appear to a good quality tire. I'll see how they perform once they are mounted, balanced and installed on the trailer.

by:

WORST experience ever! I purchased a set of tires/rims for my trailer that didn't fit so I purchased another set and returned the new set via UPS. eTrailer did not refund my money and they kept the returned tires/rims. My UPS receipt proves that both were delivered and signed for bur etrailer said that they never received the return and refusd to refund my money.

by:

I received exactly what I ordered very fast within 48 hours at a lower price then anywhere else. Thank You for great customer satisfaction

by:

Fit rim perfectly was recommended during rim purchase. Thanks.

by:

Great product great price great service !!!!!!

Once a long time ago the Goodyear trailer tires were the best, today they are junk. The Load Star's are fantastic long wearing, don't seem to dry rot out. Have put over 12,000 miles on this set and will replace them with the same when they wear out.

by:

Kenda steel belted radial Karriers have been on trailers I have owned for several years. Even with a lot of abuse, I have never had a problem. In anticipation of a move 3000 miles east, I decided to replace the tires that came on my utility trailer. When I looked online for the brand that is on my trailer, all I found were pictures of blow outs, and torn up fenders. No wonder with how flimsy they are. My wife wanted to know why I was replacing new tires. I told her to push her fist into the take off tires, and then into the Karriers. She could almost push her fist through the takeoff, but could barely budge the Karriers. No more questions. These Kenda radial trailer tires are really good--I am even not going to put in the disclaimer "for the money". Mounted and balanced just fine. Took an ounce of weight to balance.

by:

All four tires have performed well. Even ran over a few sketchy things at high speed without issue. Can't ask for much more than that!

by:

Great tires at a fair price delivered! All good!

by:

  • Trailer Tire Size to Replace 5.90-6.00-15
Everything I am finding for your tire size of 5.90/6.00-15 is that it's a farm tractor tire size so there isn't an exact replacement available. I was able to find that the size is designed to fit a 5 inch wide 15 inch diameter wheel so you could use a tire size of 205/75-15 in place of it like with the part # AM10245.

  • Will The Vesper Steel Modular Trailer Wheel # MX54FR Accept a ST205/90R15 Tire?
Be sure to verify with the tire manufacturer but you should not have any issue fitting a ST205/90R15 on the Vesper Steel Modular Trailer Wheel # MX54FR. This wheel is 5" wide and is the required size for a Karrier ST205/75R15 Radial Trailer Tire # AM10245 that is the same 205 width of your tire.

It the carries a prorated warranty for the remaining 4 years of the warranty term.

  • Help Finding Wheels and Tires for a Single Horse Trailer With 5 on 5" Bolt Pattern
Currently the only wheels we carry with a 5 on 5" bolt pattern are 15" diameter. The Vesper Steel Modular Trailer Wheel # 560550SM1 has the largest diameter pilot at 3.31". While your current wheels both have a 3.5" diameter pilot you may be able to fit the smaller size since wheels this size are typically lug centric and not hub centric. If you have a gap between the pilot diameter of your wheel and the outer diameter of the hub you only need to ensure your pilot diameter is larger than...

Load range will be different based on the size of your tire, so there isn't a specific load range I can offer, but assuming a trailer with that amount of weight on it has a double axle I can give you some examples. If you had a double axle trailer that had 15 inch wheels you would need four of the Karrier ST205/75R15 Radial Trailer Tire - Load Range D # AM10245. These tires have a maximum capacity of 2,150 lbs when inflated to their max 65 psi so four of them would give you an 8,600 lb...

  • Replacement 15 Inch Radial Tire For Travel Trailer
The tire you have is a 15 inch tire and ST denotes it is a 'Special Trailer', meant to be used on boat or utility trailers. The tire I recommend for your travel trailer is part # AM10245. This tire is the Karrier ST205/75R15. This would be the modern equivalent to your tire size. This is a Load Range D radial ply tire and has a maximum load capacity of 2,150 lbs at 65 psi. When measuring a wheel, you want to measure from the bead seat to bead seat, and not the overall diameter of the wheel.

A 78-15 is an older tire size and the metric equivalent is going to be either a 205/75-15 or a 225/75-15 depending on the capacity you need to match the old tires. A 205/75-15, load range C, # TTWTRTM2057515C, is rated for 1,80 pounds at 50 psi, and a load range D, # AM10245 is rated for 2,150 pounds at 65 psi. By comparison a 225/75-15 load range C, # AM10251, is rated for 2,150 pounds at 50 psi. A load range D, # TTWTRTM2257515D, is rated for 2,540 pounds at 65 psi. And a load range...

In order to use 205/75-15 tires on a 30' Fleetwood Prowler Lynx Fifth Wheel you'd need to go with a load range d rating as that is the only option that would have the sufficient weight capacity needed. The most cost effective tire we have in this size with this load range is the Karrier ST205/75R15 Radial Trailer Tire so that is what I recommend using.

  • Taller Tire Size Recommendation for Size 205/75-14 to Gain Inch of Ground Clearance
We have a taller tire size than your 205/75-14 that will fit your current wheel which is tire size 215/75-14 but you'd really only gain about a 1/4 inch of additional clearance so it would not be you ideal solution. What you'd really need is to go to the 15 inch trailer wheel tire size 225/75-15 as this will give you a little over an inch of additional ground clearance. The closest setup we'd have is the part # AM32468 which comes with this tire size and a galvanized spoke wheel.

An economical option that is 15 inches in diameter, 6 inches in width, and has a 5 on 4-1/2 inch bolt pattern is the part # AM20522. For a 205/75R15 tire you would want the part # AM10245, for a 225/75R15 you would want the part # AM10303. • Correct Replacement Size for a 7.75-15 Trailer Tire
The 215/75-14 tire you referenced will not work in place of a 7.75-15 tire because they use a different diameter wheel. Therefore, the 205/75-15 would indeed be your best option for replacement. This size would have the closest dimensions to the old 7.75-15 tire you have now which means there would be little to no chance for fit issues. For a 205/75-15, I recommend the Karrier ST205/75R15 Radial Trailer Tire part # AM10244 for load range c (1,820 lbs per tire) or part # AM10245 for load...

First thing you want to do is verify that your current tires are inflated to their maximum PSI. Trailer tires should always be inflated to their max PSI to ensure that you get all of their capacity and to prevent heat build up. Otherwise I would recommend you go with a higher Load Range in your tire size. For that you would want the part # AM10245 as this is a ST205/75R15 in a Load Range D that has a capacity of 2,150 lbs at 65 psi.

  • Can ST205/75R15 Tires Replace 215/75R15 Tires on Utility Trailer
Moving to the Karrier ST205/75R15 Radial Trailer Tire # AM10245 won't be a problem for your trailer. Your typical 215/70R15 tire is going to have a diameter of 26.9" and section width of 8.5". The Karrier tire has a width of 8.1" and an outer diameter of 27.3". This means you will actually gain a little clearance on the inside of the tire and lose .2" of clearance on top of the tire which won't be enough to make a difference.

Good morning potential customer. The Dexter Trailer Idler Hub Assembly # 84545BX will require a wheel with a 3.19" pilot diameter. So, the 2.62" wheel you were looking at will not be compatible with this hub. The 3.19" pilot however, is basically standard for 5 on 4-1/2" wheels so this will leave you with lots of options for a wheel/tire combo. I see you were looking at some 205/75-15 tires. They do not need to balanced beyond that. That being said, some people will still take them to a shop to have them balanced on a machine....
