Radial Tires vs. Bias Tires

Radial tire vs bias tire graphic

Radial ply tires are designed for trailers that are towed on the highway. The cords on a radial tire are positioned at a 90-degree angle to the direction of travel so that they lay across the width of the tire from wheel lip to wheel lip. This construction prevents the cords from rubbing against one another when the tire flexes, unlike the cords on a bias ply tire. As a result, radial tires have less rolling resistance and heat buildup, which leads to a longer tread life and improved steering at higher speeds.

still happy with product, will be taking trip in immediate future.

Great tires and service

by:

Not much to say. Bought for a spare and haven’t used it. Just what I thought it would be. Bought to match the original tires

by:

Great service and very fast delivery. E trailer provided communication at every step including a follow up after delivery. Tire price was the lowest I found on my search. I will use etrailer again for future purchases.

by:

I ordered two tires and the arrived in two days, which was really quick. The tires were packaged well and arrived in perfect shape. Will definitely continue using etrailer for all my trailer parts and accessories.

by:

Fast service. Grest product line

by:

by:

Fast shipping. Tires are good

by:

Great service & communication.

My order arrived within a week as anticipated utilizing UPS Ground, and the tires were the correct size and quality as expected. I've installed the replacement tires on my utility trailer and can't wait for the summer season to begin.

The tires have performed as expected for the past year. Ive probably hauled my SxS trailer about 2K miles with the replacement tires so far, and I remain hopeful Ill have a few more good years and miles to go.

by:

I have had these Kenda tires on my dual axle trailer for over 10 years with no problems. They were the original equipment provided on Cargopro trailers manufactured in Maine. When they finally needed to be replaced, I read reviews for other name brand manufacturers and thought, why would I ever buy tires that most people didn't get more than three years life? I searched the web, found Etrailer.com, their prices were very reasonable and they shipped the same day I placed my order. Their service was great, the tires arrived in three days, they are installed and ride smoothly.
Thanks to Rebecca for all of your help!

by:

No complaints tires are wearing good n wheels are holding up good.thanks

by:

I bought 2 of these tires after purchasing 2 other brand tires from a local wholesale club that I had ended up taking back because of several problems. These tires are so great I bought 2 more to go on a smaller trailer. The ride very smooth compared to the others that I had. Great tires and great customer service. Shipping is super fast as well.

by:

Great service! Great tire, have had no issues, highly recommend you guys! Thanks so much

by:

Fast service. Tires have held up well. Trailer tracks so much better with these tires.

by:

Great tires for trailer

by:

size was right. delivery fast.
tire
life..low.. for trailer tires most brands including this
are only good for 5k-10k miles..
I put around 15-20k miles on my trailer per year.
it would be great to trailer tires lasted longer.
for a boat trailer that is hauled to lake a couple weekends a month. they
might be great tires. I use them on my work trailer..daily. hence the 15-20k miles per year

by:

Good looking tire

by:

This is the first set of Radial tires on my single axle utility trailer. I had them mounted and balanced locally. The difference between these and the previous bias ply tires is night and day. No any bounce, even on an empty trailer. When loaded they handled great. I can't tell you how they'll wear, I've only had them on for a day.

by:

High quality wheels tires and accessories shipped quickly. Thanks everybody for great customer service and to future orders to keep my trailers safely on the road!

by:

Great tires at a great price. Fast free shipping too

by:

Great products and great service!I am a shop owner in Sarasota, Florida who services several local commercial fleets. I don't have a huge need for trailer related items but when I have a need, I require fast service, fair prices and correct parts. eTrailer.com has never failed to provide outstanding products at market correct prices with fast affordable delivery. Thanks eTrailer for being exactly what we need, when we need it!

by:

I prefer to deal with etrailer, they've sent exactly what I've ordered every time and for the price I was quoted.

I tried to use Walmart one time for the trailer tires, the order kept getting changed and cancelled. They ended up telling me they couldn't sell those tires and ship for the price they advertised. I waisted 3 weeks dealing with that. Etrailer had the same tires on my porch in less than a week

by:

Good, economical trailer tire.

by:

The product was delivered as scheduled and was exactly what I ordered. I have never had any problems getting any orders or information from etrailer. The people are courteous and very knowledgeable.

  • Trailer Tires 205/75-15 To Replace 205/65R15 Tires Installed On a Utility Trailer
The tires you have Wynstar R21 tire size is 205 65R 15 24HR M/S, are vehicle tires and not designed for trailer use. The wheels that you have do appear to be trailer style wheels as they appear to have 0 offset. A vehicle wheel will generally have an offset that allows the wheel face to sit closer to the outer edge of the tire. You should be able to replace your current tires with a 205/75-15 tire size as it appears that you have plenty of clearance inside your fenders. The 205/75-15...

  • How Do You Find The Speed Rating Of A ST205/75R15 Trailer Tire
The speed rating of your ST205/75R15 tire will be stamped in the sidewall, and not all tires have the same rating. For example we offer the Karrier ST205/75R15 Radial Trailer Tire - Load Range C # AM10244 which has an 81 MPH speed rating where a different tire like the # LHWL300 has a 75 MPH speed rating. If there is not a speed rating stamped on the sidewall of your tire you will want to stick to 65 MPH max. I included videos of the products mentioned for you to take a look at.

  • Comparing F78-15ST and ST225/75-15 Trailer Tires
The F78-15ST is a very old tire size which is no longer made. The modern equivalent of this size is a ST205/75-15. For this, I recommend the Karrier ST205/75R15 Radial Trailer Tire part # AM10244. If you wanted to jump up to a ST225/75-15 you could but it would be a little over an inch larger in diameter and a little over half an inch in width, the Karrier ST225/75R15 Radial Trailer Tire part # AM10256 is what I recommend.

  • Can I Swap 205/75-15 Tires with 235/80-16 Tires on Dual Axle Trailer
The 235/80-16 tires will be about 3.6 inches in diameter larger than a 205/75-15 tires. Half that difference (1.8 inches) is how much closer the tire would be to the fender. When fully loaded, you will want to see no less than 3 inches of clearance between the top of the tire and the underside of the fender when the trailer is loaded. So, unless you currently have about 4.8 inches of clearance between the top of your existing tire and the underside of the fender, you'd be in danger of bottoming...

  • Recommendation for Replacing Tires on 6x10 Utility Trailers
The 15 at the end of the tire size for your second trailer indicates the wheel diameter that the tire is mounted on. If this trailer uses 15 inch wheels, then a 14 inch tire will not be compatible. For your trailer that uses 205/75D15 tires, I recommend staying with this same size such as the Kenda Karrier ST205/75R15 # AM10244. This tire has a 1,820 pound load capacity at 50 psi and includes a limited 2-year warranty. Then for your other trailer, the Kenda Karrier ST205/75R14 # AM10234...

  • Will an ST205/75-15 Trailer Tire Fit In Place of a 205/70-15 Tire
There is only a slight difference between 205/70-15 tires and 205/75-15 tires. A 205/70-15 will be 8 inches wide and 26.3 inches tall. A 205/75-15 will be 8 inches wide and 27.3 inches tall. As long as there is more than 1/2 an inch of clearance above the existing tires you can switch to the 205/75-15 tire size. It is best to stick with the tire size recommended by the trailer manufacturer. This information should be on a sticker or plate on the trailer tongue or frame somewhere. Since the trailer weighs or is rated at 6,000 pounds, I recommend going with load range C ST205/75-15 tires if that is what the trailer manufacturer requires. Use # AM10244 for a radial or # AM1ST92 for a bias ply tire. Each is rated for 1,820 pounds at 50 psi. I have linked our help article on trailer tires for you.

  • Can Bias Ply Trailer Tires Be Used On Long Trips
It sounds like you have a pretty nice trip planned! Bias trailer tires do not have a set range you can travel as they meet DOT standards for a tire. The item you selected, Dexstar Conventional Steel Wheel, part # AM20514, will fit the tires you have, 195-60/R15, but it is not recommended. The reason it is not recommended is because the tires you have are vehicle tires, not trailer tires.
