Radial Tires vs. Bias Tires

Radial tire vs bias tire graphic

Radial ply tires are designed for trailers that are towed on the highway. The cords on a radial tire are positioned at a 90-degree angle to the direction of travel so that they lay across the width of the tire from wheel lip to wheel lip. This construction prevents the cords from rubbing against one another when the tire flexes, unlike the cords on a bias ply tire. As a result, radial tires have less rolling resistance and heat buildup, which leads to a longer tread life and improved steering at higher speeds.

I actually bought 3 of theses and wheels for an overlanding trailer I built from a CE Smith boat trailer and other parts I bought from etrailer. I am happy with these tires and wheels as well as the trailer and other parts.

by:

I have about 6200 miles on them with no issues. Most of the miles are going from WI to FL twice. They are wearing even and look like 3/4 tread left. They are installed on 2021 Coachmen 192RBS.

by:

There are so many trailer parts suppliers out there that are completely unreliable or worse. I had a very good experience with etrailer all the way from helping me find the correct wheels to the fast delivery. If I need something now I start here. Thank you.

by:

These tires came stock with my boat and lasted over 6 years of guiding with a lot of road miles.. found them on etrailer and had them on my doorstep within 3 days of ordering. Great service!

by:

I purchased 2 tires and a tire and a rim for my spare. They look great and the fit was perfect. If I need tires again, I will be ordering them from etrailer.

by:

If you Google “best trailer tires” you’ll get 10 different opinions. I decided to go with etrailer because customer service is over the top and I’ve had very positive results with them in the past. Peyton was very knowledgeable and helpful. Time will tell how good my new tires are but the purchase process was smooth. Delivered in 4 days.

by:

From the time I placed my order I was pleased with the way I was kept up to date. It was easy to track the order and it even arrived ahead of schedule. Thanks for that part of the process.

by:

Arrived fast and tires were manufactured recently. AOK

by:

bash shipping box and tire in excellent condition!

I bought a used 2013 Keystone Hideout from a private party. The rv didn't have a spare tire. I researched part numbers for the same Karrier tire and Dexter wheel that are on the camper. Search results had etrailer at the top of the list of responses. Prices for these pieces were competitive with other websites. Free shipping over 99 bucks sealed the deal. Just before making the order I noticed that two axle grease cap covers had cracks in them. I searched the ALKO/Hayes part numbers and etrailer was the only site ( other than the mfg ) to list/cross ref the covers AND they were in stock for a low price. I made the order on Tuesday and they arrived Friday which is real good for free shipping from Missouti to N.E. Pa ! Parts arrived securely packaged and in perfect shape. I am very satisfied with this order.

Looks good and the date code is recent,
Time will tell how good a tire it is. Shipped in avery sturdy cardboard box.

by:

etrailer had everything I needed in stock. I ordered and they were shipped very quickly. Great job etrailer. It is not the first time I have done business with your company. I was equally pleased in the past. Loyal Customer!

TIRE CAME FAST AND GREAT QUALITY

by:

I received my order (Karrier ST295/75R14) extremly fast and in good order. I've had it mounted and will be using it for a spare. For that reason I did not give it and excellent rating because I have no idea how well it will perform. Hopefully I'll never have to use it.
I will give etrailer.com an EXCELLENT rating for great service!

Its working well. Its still working hard as a spare.

by:

It was very easy to order from etrailer. Product arrived quickly. Have since made three trips with the new tires and they ride nicely.

by:

I bought these Karrier tires to replace the original Karrier tires that had worn out /failed (broken belt, uneven tread wear) on my 24’ RV. They have run over 8000 miles now and are still looking good. It is important to get the wheels balanced when new tires are installed.
It took a few weeks to get these as they were back ordered in 2021.

by:

Everything looks really good so far it arrived really quick very good information on the phone I am very happy with my whole experience

  • How Old is Too Old for Trailer Tires and When Do They Need Replaced
The average lifespan of a trailer tire is anywhere from three to five years based on several factors. That said, if you have cracks in the sidewall then that means the tire needs replaced as it increases the chance for a blowout. The cracks are caused by weather so if you want to prevent them in the future, use some tire covers while the trailer is not in use. In regards to the Karrier ST205/75R14 Radial Trailer Tire part # AM10234, you could use the Adco Ultra Tyre Gard RV Tire Covers...

  • Replacement Wheels and Tires for Old Demco Tow Dolly with 14 Inch Wheels
I spoke to my contact at Demco and they said that if your Demco Tow Dolly came with 14" wheels then the Replacement Wheel for Demco Kar Kaddy 3 Tow Dolly part # DM09296 is correct for you. The older ones came in a tan color with triangular shaped holes but this will still work for you as it has the same 5 on 144 mm bolt pattern and +42 mm offset that you need. If you need to replace your tires as well then I recommend using the Karrier ST205/75R14 Radial Trailer Tire part # AM10234 which...

  • Availability of Replacement Wheel for Demco Kar Kaddy 3 Tow Dolly
We can indeed offer you a spare wheel for your Demco Kar Kaddy 3. It is a chrome wheel rather than white. The part number is # DM11574. It is a 14 x 5-1/2 inch wheel with a 5 lug on 115mm bolt circle (which is the same asa 5 on 4-1/2"). I've confirmed with Demco that is indeed the correct replacement wheel. You'd want to use a ST205-75R-14 Load Range C tire like part # AM10234. The # AM31985 you referenced wouldn't work well for you. It's a 13 inch wheel, not a 14 and the offset would...

The Replacement Wheel for Demco Kar Kaddy 3 Tow Dolly - White # DM09296 will fit the measurements you gave as the older style had significantly different measurements. I reached out to my contact at Demco to confirm this wheel fit with the dimensions you gave. Demco has a unique bolt pattern that is 5 on 115 mm or 4.525 inches. They do this to ensure proper fit of their wheel with a 42 mm offset is used an not any other product that may cause the dolly to not function correctly. If...

The tire size F78-14ST is the same as the modern tire size of 205/75-14 like the part # AM32131 which comes on a 5 lug wheel. Then for just a tire in this size you would want the part # AM10234.

  • Solution for Trailer Wheel that Has Lower PSI Rating Than Tire
Dexstar wheels are not typically limited to only being able to handle 50 psi, if there is a limit that low on a wheel it's almost always the valve stem as typically the wheel is the highest rated pressure rated component. For a higher rated valve stem we have the metal # AM20906 which can handle over 100 psi and fits the two wheel hole sizes on trailer wheels of .453 and .625 inch. If you had a limited tire pressure situation this would solve it, but most likely you'd be fine as Kenda...

I did some digging into the Kenda tire and wheel combo, part # AM32156, because of the discrepancy. The tire itself, which is part # AM10234, is rated for 1,925 pounds at 60 psi. However, since the wheel is rated at 1,870 pounds this is the capacity of the two together. You're always limited but the lowest rated component. You do however, want to run the tire at 60 psi. It looks like you're checking out the ST205/75R14 sized tires, and when it comes to highway driving, particularly on that long of a stretch, you definitely want to go with radial tires over bias tires, depending on the load range you need: - Load Range C (1,925 lbs per tire): Karrier ST205/75R14 Radial Trailer Tire # AM10234 - Load Range D (2,200 lbs per tire): Karrier ST205/75R14 Radial Trailer Tire # AM10235 The reason for this is that radial tires run cooler and flex more than bias...

As you probably know, using 13 inch tires on 14 inch wheels is not a good idea. The tire is not designed to fit that size and so it has to stretch and when it stretches that is when you run into problems. I recommend switching the tires to 14 inch (if you have currently have space all around the existing tires for the larger size). Trailer tires should be replaced about every 6 or 7 years, even if the tread is still in good shape because they will deteriorate over time.
