Perhaps the easiest light kit to install, the sealed light units snap into the built-in mounting brackets on Draw-Tite, Rola and Tow Ready cargo carriers and then plug into the existing 4-pole trailer connector on the vehicle.

Features:

  • Fits Draw-Tite 40101, Rola 59502 and 59507, and Pro Series 63153 and 63155 trailer hitch mounted cargo carriers
  • Off-set Y-harness - one lead measures about 3'

Light Kit Installation

Insert grommet

Step 1

Mount rubber grommets on both sides of cargo carrier tray making sure grommets are seated securely.

Insert light

Step 2

Press tail lamps into grommets until seated securely on both sides of carrier tray.

Route plug

Step 3

Route plug with green wire under cargo carrier to the passenger side (right) and plug into cargo carrier tail lamp.

Route plug with yellow wire under cargo carrier to the driver side (left) and plug into cargo carrier tail lamp.

Secure wiring

Step 4

With supplied cable ties, secure all wiring to the bottom of the cargo carrier.

Please note: With the off-set Y-harness, one wire lead (about 3' long) is run straight to a light, the other lead (about 6' long) is run along the back edge of the carrier before it curves up to the second light. On the 40101 and 59502 cargo carriers, the wires come up through the carriers' mesh floor to attach to the back of the lights. On the Tow Ready carriers 63153 and 63155, the tighter mesh floor is not large enough for the plug to pass through. Therefore run the wire leads under the platform to the lights, then up the front of the carrier and around to the back of the light. This also helps prevent the wires from getting pinched by the cargo. On vehicles where the 4-pole trailer connector is tucked under the vehicle, a 4-pole extension may be required to connect the two plugs. See 'related items.'

Light Kit for Draw-Tite, Tow Ready, and Rola Railed Cargo Carriers - 20174

Average Customer Rating:  4.4 out of 5 stars   (234 Customer Reviews)

Perhaps the easiest light kit to install, the sealed light units snap into the built-in mounting brackets on Draw-Tite, Rola and Tow Ready cargo carriers and then plug into the existing 4-pole trailer connector on the vehicle.

This light kit is just what I needed to finish my new Rola Railed Cargo Carrier for a professional look that offers additional safety to me and other drivers while mounted on my vehicle.

Installation was easy. The included zip-ties were very helpful. For additional protection, I added black polyethylene tubing over all wiring and a few more zip-ties.

The fit of the light grommets in the available holes of my Rola Railed Cargo Carrier was a bit loose, but not enough for the lights to fall out.

They look great and function well!

by:

Package was received with no issues, well packed. Assembly was easy. The light kit install instructions could use a little more detail, hard to tell what they're supposed to look like when properly seated, but not a big issue. Would like to see the wiring harness light connector removable so as to run the wires inside the support channel, but not a big deal. My harness just fit into my connector, but I would imagine others would need an extension. Overall, very happy with the product. I hauled a big gas grill an it was no issues. Plenty of tie-down options. I would recommend this product to anyone looking for a way to expand storage. I can take 7 people in my SUV and now I have a place for their stuff.

No problems. The only thing I would change is to make the wires for the lights longer so they could be attached along the perimeter of the frame instead of jutting across.

by:

The lights themselves worked very well on our weeklong trip. However, the reason I gave them three stars was because they didn't fit in tightly to the Reese Cargo Carrier (#63155) even though they were the ones that we were told by etrailer staff would fit. We used duct tape to ensure that they would not fall out. We had to later double up on the duct tape when pressure from cargo partially pushed them out.

by:

We're currently on a 9000 mile road trip from California through Canada to Nova Scotia, to Maine and back... we purchased a car carrier and waterproof cover and they have performed as advertised! Lots of rain, muddy conditions here in Canada and all of our camping equipment stored in our carrier remains clean and bone dry! Great sturdy products. I purchased the light kit for the carrier and it too has performed flawlessly. The carrier is installed on my 2016 Subaru Outback. I had a 2" hitch previously installed and the carrier with all the weight looks great. I don't feel it on the road...

by:

The lights worked well. They were also really easy to install. My only issue was that the lights were still too loose on my cargo carrier product #63153 that I took it for a test drive and I lost one of the lights completely and the other was dangling by the time I got home. It was about an hour drive on the highway with some potholes. The remaining light still works though.

I can imagine that is annoying Stephanie. I have heard of this issue before and other customers use silicone to secure the gaskets into the cut outs.

by:

Light kit installed easily and worked well. I had enough wire to install properly with a little left over. I would have liked to have more wire for the driver's side just so I could run it along the main support beam of the carrier for a cleaner look. Since the back of the lights are exposed, my cargo bumped one of the lights and slightly bent the connecting pins. Not sure if that is a light kit issue or the carrier design, but it'd be nice if that was protected a bit better.

by:

This light kit appears to be of excellent quality. The only reason for four stars is that I have not actually installed it as yet, so have not had opportunity to test it.

Well over a year and product is just fine. Thank you for the follow up!

by:

The product itself appears to be pretty well made. The wired connections fit nice and snug and were sufficient length to route underneath the cargo carrier i purchased and plug into the hitch harness. I only gave it 4 stars since it didnt fit in the 24x60 Reese Cargo Carrier #63153, even though the description says it will. The rubber gasket and light are too small for the oblong openings in the carrier and I had to ziptie them in place so they dont fall out.

by:

I ordered this light kit for my Pro Series Cargo Carrier (item 63153).

The light kit was very easy to install and took less than 20 minutes.

Make sure you watch the video for installing this light kit. Its a plug and play installation.

by:

Delivery was quick ordered Mon mornning deliverd Fri afternoon.Trailor was very easy to put together looks great and should do what I got it for.. could come with 6 larger washers fo 3 center bolts.Lights allso went on easy.i chose to run them through the smaller tubes to lessen exposure seeing that i cut them to add an extension (to short by 12 inchs) then I zip tighed tupperware over inside to protect from cargo banging into them and popping them out..in all I would recemend great for the price

by:

I used the cargo basket to transport 2 coolers and some miscellaneous camping gear. The basket was easy to assemble and the additional lighting option was easy to install also.

by:

Used it for an attachment trailer, took it on a 1500 mile drive, I lost one light. Otherwise, it was easy to install and worked correctly.

by:

Work great, easy to install, but not a very tight fit for the lights in my Reese trailer.

by:

Instructions were simple and installation was a breeze.

by:

Fits Rola Cargo carrier PERFECTLY

by:

Works well. Easy install. Not designed for my particular cargo carrier, but still works.

Still great after a year.

by:

Very well packaged, arrived in good
shape.
Easy to put together.
Have 12.50 x 35 inch tires plenty of clearance, can not open tail gate with large tire.
Ordered light/wire kit, changed to different lights.
Will work great for what I need.

by:

All parts were top quality, easy to install, everything you need to hook up. Directions were clear and easy to follow. But the power cords for the driver side could be a little longer, should be longer like the Passenger side lighting harness. Both wiring harnesses go from the lights then to the center of the carrier, then to the hitch area.
There was extra wiring on the passenger side; you may want to look at this.

I am very pleased with this unit and use it all summer long. Great Idea....

by:

Works well enough, but falls out of the mount bracket constantly. I had to eventually duct tape them in place.

I have had the same issue in the past. The lamp and grommet are easiest to install into the mounting bracket if you install the lamp into the grommet first. Then install the assembly into the bracket.

by:

Arrived in great condition Well packaged. Exactly as described and worked perfectly. Just what I needed to install on a rack to haul my Cricket Cart on the back of my fifth wheel camper. Thanks again to Dylan and etrailer for there good help and service as usual

Benny

6/3/2020

Still working great. Great product an service from etrailer as usual

by:

This lighting kit was easy to set up. However, the wiring section for the driver's side was too short to route under the basket. I had to wire it over the basket and rig a protector for this section of wiring. The passenger side section had plenty of wire. The kit does work well.

Willie L.

6/12/2014

The carrier and light hook-up are very good. I have used them often. I would highly recommend them. God bless!!!

by:

Kit is complete and ready to install. Light assembly grommets need a little tighter fit in hitch carrier, fit is a little loose and sloppy. All in all happy with kit as long as lights don't fall out of carrier.

Terry H.

5/15/2013

I agree that the lights fit too loosely. I now have one light because a cooler slid and popped the other light out while driving. Thanks to the quick connectdisconnect feature, the light is along the road somewhere.

Patrick B.

5/15/2013

There are replacement lights available, part ST70RB. These lights are a snap-in design, and are not as secure as lights that use hardware mounts. If installed properly, they will hold in place when traveling down the road, but a loose cooler could certainly knock them out of place.

by:

This is a great piece! Easy to assemble and was just what I needed to haul camping gear

by:

Installation was very simple.

Only
issue I have is that the wires were too short and there is no way for the 4 pin plug to reach the tow vehicle. Had to buy more wires.

Jim C.

4/16/2015

One year update: Were still using it on the back of our 5th wheel to carry a diamond plate tool box. Its working out quite well. The supplied hardware started rusting within the first few weeks. Other than that...all is well.

by:

It worked perfectly. Hope you have a happy Thanksgiving.

Absolutely! A transmission cooler is always a good idea. Keeping the fluid cooler helps the transmission last longer, especially when carrying a lot of weight. And the benefit of a hitch mounted carrier is that you won't run into as much wind resistance so you will get better gas mileage.
